    I did this a while back and it got rid of a nonstop ring that would appear even a couple days after I just cleaned the toilet. BUT and this is a huge but, it absolutely deteriorated the gasket and caused my toilet to leak profusely for like a couple weeks until I had it fixed. I didn’t know it at the time but it was definitely from the vinegar, granted the toilet was about 10 years old but the vinegar gave it that slight nudge and the gasket that holds the main water supply at the bottom of the tank failed and there was nothing I could do to stop it. So if someone tells you that it won’t deteriorate the rubber/gaskets, that’s not true, I would say if it’s a newer toilet then it should be fine, but most of our toilets are 10-15 years old, unless we just moved into a new house. I had all 3 of the toilets in my house rebuilt because they were all due, and the plumber basically said they’re all going to do it eventually might as well take care of them while he was here. He put new pumps, new gaskets, and new bolts, feels like a brand new toilet.

    • @thedanyesful

      Could be that the vinegar cleaned off some buildup on the gasket that was acting as part of the seal.

      Yeppp. Vinegar can cause damage to rubber gaskets/fittings/rubber anything. I always take the rubber rings out of my faucet nozzles before soaking them in vinegar. Sometimes there's also a tiny rubber ring INSIDE the aerator. So I completely disassemble them and take that out. Because it's so small, it is the most vulnerable.
      I've actually gotten sick from soaking them in vinegar without taking the rubber ring out! Eventually those tiny rubber fragments get into your drinking water.
      Never have used the vinegar hack in my washing machine for towels or to clean a washing machine due to this. That would potentially be an absolute disaster.

    Do you all know there is "cleaning vinegar"? I just recently found out. It's just a little stronger than food grade but every little bit of muscle helps. I use it undiluted to clean. I keep a spray bottle of undiluted cleaning vinegar close to the shower. As soon as I finish my shower, three times a week, I spray the cleaning vinegar right on the water on my glass shower doors and immediately squeegee it off. Perfectly clean doors and I do not use a cloth to clean them now but a couple times a year. Cleaning vinegar also removed a stubborn mineral buildup stain inside the plastic utility sink in the laundry room. Poured some on the stain and walked away. Looks brand new, it's a 19 y/o plastic sink.

    I'm glad you mentioned. Yes, pouring vinegar directly into your toilet's reservoir (water tank) can potentially damage the rubber seals and gaskets within, as vinegar's acidic nature can cause the rubber to deteriorate, soften, and eventually crack over time.
    However, when it is dirty and nasty, do it. But don't do it on a regular basis. There is a product made for cleaning washing machines that doesn't harm rubber or metal parts so I commonly use that instead. But I'll will use 45% vinegar from Amazon cut with 50% water. Use gloves and eye protection - this isn't your 3% vinegar - it can burn.

That can also help with that bowl "ring," which most likely is a build-up of mineral deposits. And if CLR does not work, get an acidic cleaner for the bowl and a $2.00 scouring stick from Walmart. The best way to "clean" the tank is to scrub it with a good brush and flush out the sediments, but DO NOT put chemicals in the tank!

    Am I the only person who didn’t know that you needed to clean the inside of the toilet tank?!?! I mean I absolutely love this channel for cleaning hacks or ways to simplify and remove weird stuff my kids somehow seem to get on the carpet, those kinds of things. But I’ve always prided myself on keeping a well organized and clean home. There’s not even any dust bunnies (as my Mom would call them lol) under any beds! Andrea Jean if possible will you please post a link to the other toilet bowl cleaning video where you showed how to turn off the water and clean? Thinking I have a big job ahead of me…

    On well and septic and struggle with mineral deposits of all kinds as well as bowls that tend to get a brown haze and ring every few days if not scrubbed. The stains get deep into the porcelain too.
    I have never experienced this before and had come to the conclusion, my toilets will just forever look filthy. I never thought about looking until the tank.
    Harsh chemicals are not an option due to being on septic, but vinegar is doable! I will definitely add tank cleaning into my routine and see what happens.

    Another product you can use is iron out. Simply flush, add product as it’s filling. You want some of it to get into the toilet itself. Let it soak over night. Doesn’t smell all that great but it works very well.

    I have a question… is there a benefit to doing this rather than a tank tablet (those big blue tabs that look like a giant’s breath mint LOL) or even a comet or other type of cleaner? I love your hacks so I’d love your input. 😊

    • @SleepWith1iOpen-X
      @SleepWith1iOpen-X 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Those tablets really aren't good for the gaskets in the toilet. The constant exposure to the bleach and chemicals in them will take away from the lifespan of them and they'll start leaking sooner than they normally would. That being said, the parts can be replaced....so it's just a trade-off of longevity vs not having to constantly clean the bowl by hand.

    • @loisbrown1059
      @loisbrown1059 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those big blue tablets will actually clog up your bowl. They don't dissolve throughly,they look like blue sand in the bottom of the tank. 👍

    I generaly do this... I flush the toilet and put an entire or 1/2 a bottle of vingegar in the toilet. I lst it sit. (the longer the better.. ) then you scrub (before and after) and really scrub those yellow stains at the bottom of the toilet and they come right out!!!

    I rent and didn't want to stick my hand in there even with a glove, a lot of black debris. I turned the water off, flushed the toilet, held the handle down to keep the flapper up and kept pouring water in the tank (I may have even used the hand held shower head) it washed it all down after a few times😁.

    I can't believe I missed another Andrea toilet cleaning vid. Hunch YT un-subbed me but I always give you 👍s on simple principle. Try this instead.
    Drain the tank completely and leave the seat up. Maybe even blame the hubby for that? Toss the tank lid in the bathtub bottom up beforehand. 2 boxes of baking soda. 2 jugs of pickling vinegar. Close the bathroom door with a folded towel blocking the gap. Let sit overnight.
    Bagless Shopvac in the morning and you'll be able to eat off of EVERY surface in that bathroom!!! And probably develop an obsession for fish+chips as well. 👍👍
    You have to KNOW I'm sharing this vid with friends. Right after I secretly squirt a restaurant vinegar packet on their toothbrushes after using their john... 😁
