  • 'Don't go woke!' Royal experts weigh in on King Charles III"s coronation | Palace Confidential. Plans are starting to emerge about King Charles’s coronation next year, with some concerned that political correctness with triumph over tradition. One sticking point is over whether Queen Consort will wear the famous Koh-i-Noor diamond in her crown. The Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English reports that but the paper’s Diary Editor Richard Eden says to bow-down to criticism would be a ‘crazy’ mistake. ‘The Royal Family should not go woke, it’s crazy, if they go down this route, there’ll be no end to it!’ he tells the programme. ‘The Supreme Court of India in 2016 ruled that the diamond wasn’t stolen, it was a gift from India, that was accepted then. So there’s no reason to think there’s a problem with it. It’s part of the Crown Jewels, they have these jewels, it’s part of our heritage, so wear them.’ Our panel also discuss the very modern move made by Mike Tindall, husband of Princess Anne’s daughter Zarah Philips after it was reported that he would join the cast of reality show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!

14' : the lady has got the point. People keep this quaint form of gouvernance for a reason, the pomps and the theatrics!
Beware not to slim down the institution too much!
Stay dignified and appear humble and attentive to the people but keep some objective visibility, otherwise what is the purpose ?!
Going all margaretha of Danemark would be ridiculous, stripping her own son and his wife who served her well and decently from their titles is a major fault.
This episode is quiteinteresting regarding the coronation and mr tindall (who is a big opportunist) although you all look a bit bored and tired, lacking the usual flame.

I'm a year older than Diana was and I never thought William would find a wife who could live up to her as a fashion icon. And he didn't. He found someone who is even better. Camilla may be the new Queen, but Catherine is the new royal fashion queen. She proved that with the gold number she wore to the James Bond premier. She was absolutely stunning.

    • @Kezia.G
      @Kezia.G ปีที่แล้ว +15

Diana's fashion is overrated. Many of her clothes are dated, but you can wear what Catherine wears in a 100 years, and it'd still look chic. Catherine is more like Jackie Kennedy.

@@anitawilkinson6943 BS!!! You've got this the wrong way around; SHE was the first reason anyone was ever really excited about milquetoast Charles, who couldn't get a picture of him doing anything dashing and really sell it--from being invested with the ping-pong ball crown to sailing away on his first command that saw him promptly out of the Royal Navy! Meanwhile, the first picture of Diana "to go viral" 80s style (as in get printed in publications far and wide, including Newsweek in the US, where as a kid I saw it in one of those collected tidbits-of the-week pages up front) wasn't her standing beside her future ex-husband; it was the one that exposed she wasn't wearing a slip when the sun suddenly shifted as she widened her stance and held a toddler on her hip! She didn't need Charles or William to have every straight male thinking "MILF" from that alone, but then in addition to the way her long legs looked was the way she played those eyes beneath her hats and bangs that read the kind of demure but with comedic timing that you just knew had something more was there, especially with her alternating sparkling smile and pouty model-like expressions that got her lots of magazine covers where no one really cared what she was wearing long before they cared what she was wearing down the aisle!!!!

KC hopefully will have at least 20/25 yrs on the Throne which means for myself and many we won't be around to see Prince William and Princess Catherine become king and Queen. ( 😭 ) I know I'm not a British taxpayer but I plan to visit Britain as a tourist again very soon after the funeral. An American here. I can understand the shortening of the coronation but hopefully it won't compromise the serious and spiritual nature of the ceremony. I think the peers and their ladies should put on their full regalia for the occasion. I can't understand why you would have such beautiful items for such sacred (and rare) occasions that may come once in a lifetime for the peers . And yes, Queen Camilla deserves the crown as she is now the queen. I agree with Richard Eden; there's always a complainer in the bunch with an axe to grind. You can't please everybody. I think with regards to mental health and Prince William having suffered getting overlooked most often, it was very telling, when it was William who mentioned that the Queen's funeral reminded him and brought back memories of the funeral of his mother. It was also telling that he did so during a casual statement with a citizen during one of his engagements, instead of during a big interview or speech. It was simply a very authentic statement about his feelings instead of making it into a big deal.

@@derekliso1211 The coronation is a state affair. Horrid Henry is a family affair. Not sure how you are not seeing the differentiation between the two? Harry has repeateldy, eyes wide open, sliced and diced his Queen, his country, and his family (not to mention numerous countries around the globe). If KC desires for his reign to be a success, then he must separate the two. You realize that if H is invited, then by default his wife will be attending with him, wearing a tiara? If KC allows this to happen, his reign will effectively be over, and pronto. And rightly so. I've supported the Monarchy for decades. Not that my opinion matters, at all, but I'm giving KC the benefit of the doubt and some breathing room to do what he must know needs to be done to sort out his traitorous son and the swamp creature that slithered into the BRF. Please do a program about the royal properties. I would love to know which are owned by the family versus those owned by the crown. How much do nonworking royals have to pay i.e. Prince Andrew? Does staff stay at each property? With a slimmed down monarrchy, won't there be many empty palaces and houses? Any information would be a treat to those of us across the pond. Why is the 'fashion' sense of royal Princesses 'so' important to the media? Yes many ladies love to 'follow' the fashion choices of Royalty. What we have lost is a sense of respect for members of the Royal family. The Princess of Wales is a 'senior' member of the Royal family and needs to be seen and respected as such. The British Monarchy is an institution that needs to be respected. Yes it is 'traditional' but if it is just regarded as a 'photo opportunity' in order to sell more newspapers, then it has been turned into a 'commodity' and is not being given the due respect that should be given. The United Kingdom is a 'Kingdom. It is not a Republic and as such, the King and members of the Royal family should be treated with respect including by media writers and photographers. Pop stars etc etc are not members of the Royal family.

I doubt anyone even gave it a thought. Imagine picking a date based on a kid who has only been seen a couple of times by the RF.
In regards to which PC host I would like to have as a neighbor, Richard wins hands down (only if he is single 😊), if not, Jo gets my vote.

"WOKE" Sick to death of this word and the people using it as an excuse and also fueling the constant fire it sparks. I personally would love to see the whole shebang to be honest, I think we as a country and people want it as it is our history, tradition and who we are, its our culture and its grown with each monarch and new age.

The host should post her entire look for every episode. Love her outfits.

Oh for god's sake - USE FAKE FUR!!! Who in the world could ever tell the difference watching it from the crowd or on TV? This is beginning to seem totally ridiculous!

Use fake fur and use coconut oil. Problem solved.

I am astounded that Civet cats are still kept for the properties of their anal glands. This was traditionally an ingredient used in all expensive perfumes, but I thought the practice had ceased. Poor civets.

The last batch of Coronation Oil was made after the Deanery was bombed in 1941 (I think that was the year) and the oil was destroyed. It's not like they are making this anymore. It was made before the practice was stopped.

Richard Eden is 100% correct about the Queen Consort wearing the Queen Consort’s crown - she should wear it as it’s part of Britain’s heritage, history, and pageantry. And the Princess of Wales should also wear when the time comes.
