I can't remember NOT ever being fascinated with the British Royal Family! As a 49 year old, divorced, mother of 2, Nurse Practitioner and American, I can remember exactly where I was, who I was with and exactly what I was doing when PD passed away. I remember initially finding out that she was in the accident to just a few hours later when her passing was reported and I felt like I lost a hero. I have a much better understanding now of her role in the dilution of her marriage to the King. Just in the last 7 years have I really dedicated my personal time into doing deep dives into everything I could find on them, their ancestors and it hasn't changed yet. They absolutely fascinate me and I have such a enormous amount of respect for the late Queen Elizabeth and always will. I can think of no one else in my lifetime that I admire more and I could not BE more outraged at what Rachel Meghan Markle has done to that family. As much anger that I feel at Harry, I too, was in a 15 year relationship with a narcissist and I couldn't see it when I was in it either. It's taken me years..... almost 7 now and I am still sorting myself out. This is not going to end well for him and he is going to really need his family when it does because you can't imagine what someone you once loved can turn around and do to you. Some people just have no idea what's going on and I am sick watching this woman completely do her best to tear down her own children's birthright!!!!! The Queen was a truly good person; take a look at the way she loves animals and how they were a huge part of her life; sharing every aspect her home. Animals; horses, dogs, cats, wildlife can tell if a person is consistently kind and thoughtful and importantly, gentle. Equally, they can also sense the opposite characters too. When Observing the two Princes,William & Harry playing polo, note how differently they interact with their horses. William will often reward the horse with a pat or an apple after the game. Polo is a highly competitive sport, and no-one likes loosing, but I have never witnessed William take his frustration out on his horse. Unlike Harry.
"She was an exemplar of goodness." Yes, she was. Thank you, Gyles Brandreth for your work on the Queen, and also "Prince Philip, the final portrait." I can't wait to read them both.
Gyles could write a fascinating tale about the Queen keeping us spellbound, even if she were born the daughter of a shoe shiner who grew up to be a baker at your local pastry shop.
Lovely interview. I first came to genuinely admire the Queen when I read another biography and understood how difficult the job is. That was a really excellent point about how the Queen was a normal person but everyone she ever met was not acting normally. That would be a a strange life.

Hello from someone who grew up in Canada and now live in America. Really enjoyed the interview with Mr. Brandreth. The more we learn about the late gracious QE2, the more there is to love and respect. The world needs more people like her. I hope KCharles retains a lot of his mother’s good qualities, while moving the Monarchy forward to meet the challenges of the times. Her special-ness was appreciated the world over, judging by how much outpouring of emotion during the events of her passing. May she RIP and we are grateful to have her example to follow.
I loved the documentaries A year with the Queen and Monarchy they showed a little of her in a lovely way 👏💗🇦🇺💗💗💗 I loved the understanding of The Monarchy going at the pace of the slowest member of the kingdom so no one is left behind 👏👏👏👏👏💗🇦🇺🇦🇺👍brilliant
Thank you so much. I loved listening and learning more about our incredible Queen Elizabeth II. I always thought of her as the person of incredible values and kindness, equally measured to the importance of everyone. But to listen to such a gentleman. Thank you 💖 I meet our wonderful Queen Elizabeth II twice in New Zealand, once as a child a group of us that were able, came to meet her, the hospital and our parents made this possible and the second time as a woman in her mid 20s.if I am correct, it was a little while ago, I don't keep a diary so it may have been in my early 30s but that being said, I remember feeling very valued in Prince Philips and her Majesty's presence.
What a wonderful interview with Gyles. He's so chatty. I'd love to go to the pub with him and chat about the Royals like this. I will definitely be buying his book ❤❤❤
Jo, once again, EXCELLENT interview. I could have listened for at least another hour! Thank you so much for your contribution to our understanding and knowledge. ❤️
Hello from Singapore! This episode was lovely to watch and I can’t wait for part two. I loved all the intimate little details that Gyles had shared. Isn’t it just fascinating how much the world got to scrutinise the monarchy and yet how little one really knows about the late Queen. I truly love the insight on the type of principles the late Queen and Prince Phillip held. I especially hold close to my heart Prince Phillip’s view on looking outside of yourself. I find that my generation (I am 3 months older than Prince Harry) and younger are sometimes much to introspective. It’s not a bad thing but that there must be a balance and we do need to look outside of ourselves. Isn’t it curious that social media was intended to help us reach out beyond ourselves, but instead it seems to have made individuals become more self-centred at the same time?
You’re right, Social Media has done a lot to damage the self esteem of many. Even we older ones (I’m 75) can feel that we’re not all that we could be. I can say for certain that comparing oneself with others is a dangerous game.
I think Charlotte is very much like the Queen. Not only in looks and mannerisms but how she helped George at gan gans funeral. Charlotte has that same caring nature
Thank you Giles, for bringing up that the Queen did not have favourites, I have been fed up with this narrative being toted recently. As a mother, you love all of your children and grandchildren equally, but there may be some that you are compatible with.
The Queen was fair-minded towards everyone - her own children and grandchildren and the families of the performers at Royal Variety shows. Great values
Jo really deserves credit for how well she did this session, inserting a guiding question here and there but realizing quickly what she should really do was get out of his way and let him talk...fabulous!!!
I was a priest of a sixteenth century church with a Norman tower. One American visitor seriously commented “I love your old church but why build it in front of a dual carriageway”? 😮

Love love love Gyles, he’s 1 of the funniest ppl on our TVs - he’s known our late Queen & PPDoE very well and for many years - I bet his book is brilliant - it’s on my list to Santa 🎅- loved this weeks show
The quote Mr Gyles repeated from Elizabeth 1, That’s an eye opening and profound statement for me from Elizabeth 1, “Here is my outward likeness. If only I could show you my inward mind.” We are sadly seeing that statement come to life as we read all the hate and rage come to the forefront in the UK over Harry and Meghan, King Charles and William. Now, we can see both sides of that statement in her people, including King Charles and William. I wonder what she would think of her country now?
What did you think of the interview? Don't forget to tune into PART 2 tomorrow!

I am so looking forward to reading his book! Let us focus on what matters, not on histerical pettiness.
Ich könnte ihm stundenlang zuhören. Großartig.
Ich auch.
I really like Jo - she knows how to listen to her guests, & she pays attention. Gyles Brandreth is always worth watching, & I look forward to Part 2!
Totally enjoyed this interview. This gentleman was so entertaining! I absolutely hung on every word!
Wow brilliant interview well done Jo, Giles was so entertaining reminded me of prince Philip can’t wait for part 2.
Thank you so much. I loved listening and learning more about our incredible Queen Elizabeth II. I always thought of her as the person of incredible values and kindness, equally measured to the importance of everyone. But to listen to such a gentleman. Thank you 💖
I meet our wonderful Queen Elizabeth II twice in New Zealand, once as a child a group of us that were able, came to meet her, the hospital and our parents made this possible and the second time as a woman in her mid 20s.if I am correct, it was a little while ago, I don't keep a diary so it may have been in my early 30s but that being said, I remember feeling very valued in Prince Philips and her Majesty's presence.
Brilliant interview indeed! Thank you for those rare insights into her Majesty's life and personality.
What an intelligent and well informed man Gyles Brandreth is. I found him to be fascinating and articulate Buy his book, don't buy Harry's.
What a wonderful interview with Gyles. He's so chatty. I'd love to go to the pub with him and chat about the Royals like this. I will definitely be buying his book ❤❤❤
Love this man, and Jo is a fantastic interviewer. Well done. Looking forward to part 2!
What an incredible opportunity to hear from a man like this! Thank you
Great, great interview! Have him back on to continue the story of Elizabeth. I will definitely be buying the book.
Brilliant. I loved this ❤
How marvelous!!! Why did you have to stop?, Giles was a total breath of fresh air. I’m buying it for sure!
We didn't! Check out Part II of the interview right here! th-cam.com/video/5lrzCwOM6uI/w-d-xo.html
I could’ve listened to another full hour with this man! Sounds like his book will be a great read.
Such an interesting, charming guest and a great interviewer who listens to her guests and just lets them talk. 🇨🇦
What a national treasure, that man and this interview!! Thank you so much! It's nice to hear things like this right now ❤️ from Pensacola
Fascinating interview loved it
Enjoying listening to stories of the late queen . I hope that book will sold in Australia ❤.
Jo really deserves credit for how well she did this session, inserting a guiding question here and there but realizing quickly what she should really do was get out of his way and let him talk...fabulous!!!
Thank you, Jo Elvin for such an informative interview. Watching from California.
Loved listening to this😊
That is my favorite joke about the Americans--"Why in the world did they build Windsor Castle so close to the airport??!!" 😆
As an American, I’m laughing!
Hahaha!
I was a priest of a sixteenth century church with a Norman tower. One American visitor seriously commented “I love your old church but why build it in front of a dual carriageway”? 😮
@@revdwendy1019 please forgive my nutter countrymen!
😂 🇺🇸💙🇬🇧
Saw both parts of this interview. I could listen to him tell stories all day! Absolutely marvelous! Any time you need to present an episode and have trouble deciding a topic, just invite him back!!!🇺🇸
What a wonderful interview! Can’t wait for part 2!!
Thank you for this interview. So interesting, and brilliant!
Ah, Jo, Delightful interview! Brought sunshine to a grey December afternoon in Virginia. With deft brushwork Brandreth paints a well studied, yet fresh portrait of Elizabeth II. Congrats. Look forward to Tuesday PART II and the Book.
Thank you both for a thoroughly brilliant interview! So enlightening and interesting with just the minimal amount of interruption. I really really enjoyed it and Gyle’s book is definitely going on my Christmas list!
Great interview. Gyles gives a captivating yet positive account, built on personal observations, with heart-felt sincerity.
I absoutely loved this Love hearing all these old stories how she really was this is one biography that I will be buying can’t wait for tomorrows next episode
Giles is one of my favourite people. I remember him from those early days when was often on TV as President of the Cambridge Student Union, even then wearing his Jumpers. His wit, intelligence and humanity have always been there. This is one Royal book I will want to read.
Fascinating
I love the vibe of this channel. The interviews are done at night and the actual show done during the day. Love the vibezz
What a great interview! I really enjoyed not only Mr. Brandreth's storytelling, but also Jo's total engagement and obvious enjoyment of the interaction- love her interest, questions and comments. I look forward to part 2 and wish we could all go to the pub with the 2 of you and listen to more!!
Tremendous interview, such fun, thank you.
I love Gyles , he is like a warm cuddle blanket , and so knowledgeable 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Love love love Gyles, he’s 1 of the funniest ppl on our TVs - he’s known our late Queen & PPDoE very well and for many years - I bet his book is brilliant - it’s on my list to Santa 🎅- loved this weeks show

Such an interesting guest discussing an interesting subject. I hope to get a copy of his book. Thankyou, Jo, for this interview.

Thank you, Thank you …. I simply loved this interview, just wonderful. Looking forward to seeing part 2. May God Bless Britain 🇬🇧
Mrs. Elvin, the joy in your countenance at hearing about the Queen was wonderful. Thank you for sharing that unabashedly.
What a wonderful interview!
Adore him!!!
Loved this episode. Thank you
The quote Mr Gyles repeated from Elizabeth 1, That’s an eye opening and profound statement for me from Elizabeth 1, “Here is my outward likeness. If only I could show you my inward mind.”
We are sadly seeing that statement come to life as we read all the hate and rage come to the forefront in the UK over Harry and Meghan, King Charles and William. Now, we can see both sides of that statement in her people, including King Charles and William. I wonder what she would think of her country now?
