For those that aren't aware, you need to check the about this video and download the actual track, one of the channels is cut out in the youtube version so you miss the womans voice etc. This is my fave TBL demo of the recent era, I prefer it to Starstruck.
DirectX, OpenGL..pffftt. Developers have never had it so good. This is 100% assembler - 100% raw - 100% hardcore. They just don't make coders like TBL anymore - these days anyone can call themselves a programmer. This is about bending the laws of electronics and squeezing 110% out of the hardware and every last pixel is down to the coders. Utterly sublime skills.
It's sure one of the best demos on Amiga last years. The music is also awesome (pity that video is in so low quality here). I liked especially the parts with those "3d pixels" and the radiosity shaded scene with cubes, which were quite simple to make, but it all gives totally great impression. Great design simply. The Amiga demos have always such a cool spirit :) Amiga rulez! :)
unbelievable. wow thank you blade004 for enlighten me. My Physics Professor (P.Dr. Kern) always talked about his 1st amiga... but i wasnt able to understand him those days ;) i do understand now. Milestone in engineering. ...
@blade004: There will be not next breakpoint :( That was the last one. But this demo is the best one I have ever seen. Even PC sucks according to this one. Best regards.
sorry for late response but you can pre-calculate ambient occlusion quite easily into a texture or to per vertex color/shading. i bet is that most of that scenes AO is precalculated into vertex data and the shadow on the ground is a texture.
@swapd0 Using depth buffers if you want mathematically correct result. Voxel landscape is somewhat simplified version (meaning easy optimization) version of that.
@swapd0 Look into Sparse Voxel Octree's. On more recent hardware you can see them used(look on youtube) in Linger In Shadows which is by another demoscene group, all the animals in that are done using SVO's.
Noone in his right mind would code anything like a demo in basic. One would use assembler embedded in a high level language, On PC, Turbo Pascal was popular because it compiled fast and had embedded assembler. It had a debugger. Earlier machines had CPU reset carts, machine language monitors - different techniques for producing working code depending on a machine.
Very good demo! Nice voxels. Where is the voice? "La mouitarde, c'est fort, et c'est pour ça que c'est bon." To avoid things like that, I think that videos should be converted to mono before uploading.

Yes, you'll see the Decepticons logo in several of their demos :)
Wondering if the soundtrack is really a four channel Amiga mod? If so, does anyone have the mod file? :)
