One day, when I was around 12, an older pal asked me if I wanted to hang out at “this chick’s house”, what a hippie experience. Black lights and lava lamps then the needle hit this Masterpiece album. I was never the same. I experienced them live in’77 in Madison Square Garden. There is a reason this Masterpiece was on the billboard charts for 741 weeks!

At 45 I had a conversation with my father, he asked me, he says, "Now that you're a little older, doesn't it seem like the years go by faster with each passing year?" My reply was that I miss my 20's, my 30's are nowhere in the records, and somehow I'm over halfway through my 40's... of course the years go by faster!! lol and we both brought up this song at the same time. After my father passed and it was time to go pick up his ashes I got the sudden impulse to put on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album for his drive home. It was one of his favorites and he played it all the time I was growing up. You should consider doing a full album reaction. Much of Pink Floyd's work is best appreciated by listening to the album as a whole.

***MONEY*** check that out...and then do this thing we did in the 90s yall if you start Dark Side Of The Moon Album when the lion roars for the beginning of The Wizard of Oz the music matches up to the scenes and it's fun to do with friends...it only works for side 1 for some reason. Make sure you do PInk Floyd The Wall official video! This is a TREASURE TROVE that will summon Gen X and blow up your comments so stick with it! For Pink Floyd you turn it up loud, turn off the lights, get your lava lamp and black lights on and make everyone shut the hell up so you can feel it in your soul....but you want them there so you can force this awesome experience on them...nobody regrets finding Pink Floyd in a beanbag. :)

Yes, listen to the album version of Great Gig, then watch the version from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" video concert. Rachel Fury, Durga McBroom and Margaret Taylor sing it better than any others I've seen.
this brings me back to my stoned youth, dropping acid, taking PCP, peyote, magic mushrooms, smoking hash, toking joints,, all back from nineteen seventy...and back in nineteen seventy two...and floyd was the focus, even the floyd ummagumma back in nineteen sixty eight...you gotta be stoned to appreciate floyd, thats a given. Being stoned with hendrix is even better.

I highly suggest the song "One of These Days" on the Floyd album, Meddle. Turn up the volume on that one.
To appreciate this song, one must also immediately listen to the following song on side 1 -- Great Gig in the Sky (a summation of what the soul goes through in the "death experience!") Sounds gruesome, but is actually an amazing work of musical art.

Time is part one of a 2 song experience , and is best to let TIME roll into The Great Gig In The Sky ( part 2 ), before turning off. lol
Time is our life, your life... ..The Great Gig is the end of our TIME, describing the 5 stages of our end from denial to peaceful acceptance.
I will listen to The Great Gig by itself, as it is my favoutite piece of music and song, but i hate listening to TIME by itself. lol
NEXT......Pink Floyds albums are legendary, but they are really a LIVE band.
To experience the musical genuis of Pink Floyd, you must explore their live videos.......starting with Pulse from 1994.
I recommend starting at the concerts opening song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, then The Great Gig In The Sky, and finnish your introduction with the 2 closing numbers to end Pulse..... Comfortably Numb followed by Run Like Hell.
After the above you will be ready to experience their whole catalogue of live performances and recorded albums.
It was great seeing your huge smile throughout the video. You need to listen to the whole album at once. Maybe after you do reviews this album was in the top 200 billboard for like 25 30 years straight. It's in top 20 of all time albums. Maybe top ten

As a matter of fact it is only a 1? Because there are only 26 letters in the English language. Off the top of my stroke ravaged head/brain I can think of more than a few 1’s by other artists, ie Relayer by YES, Madman Across the Water/Elton John, Are You Experienced/Hendrix, Bridge Over Troubled Water/SnG, Sgt Peppers/Beatles, Pet Sounds/Beach boys, Deja Vu/CSNY.

In my opinion, Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" is possibly the greatest piece of recorded music in human history. You MUST listen to this album in its entirety from beginning to end. Whether you do it on your own time or for a video, it's a MUST listen.

There's only 2 albums that have outsold this one MJ's Thriller and AC/DC Back in Black but the fact that Pink Floyd knocked off Elvis and the Beatles for most sold and held that title for around 30yrs. is quite the major accomplishment.

Though it's odd...I have heard the same sentiment from GenX, Millennials and Alpha.
Maybe everyone has had the "BEST music", for them, as they made their way through adolescence and young adulthood.
Or, maybe only the things Boomers like are objectively "the BEST" and everyone else is just wrong. I'm sure 4 out of 5 Boomers would agree with that observation.
Fact
I'm happy, as Gen X, to say we share this song with the boomers. They played it and we listened. Then we put it on when they weren't around, copied it to cassettes, and vibed on it all over the place. It's a perennial song, by its very nature, intent and message. It's speaking of a whole life, looking forward and backwards. It's a warning for some, a lament for others. At 14 when I first heard this, I couldn't really appreciate "then one day you find ten years have got behind you", but I could tell the impact of the sentiment on older people and it gave me pause about wasting time, which is so natural for people to do. But it's not just about that. It's also a very deep message about how striving is ultimately futile in the big picture too. We run and we run to catch up with sun, but it's sinking. Time gets us all in the end.
Which is part of what makes it a great song. It can be inspirational, or it can be a bum out. That's up to you. But whatever it is, you feel it when they sing it. Maybe those feelings lead to useful change or wallowing in self pity, or even smug satisfaction. You choose your ending, but your song will end and there is always more to say that you missed. Does it matter? Up to you.
That whole album is a mind blowing masterpiece of emotion and passion that makes you think about life

Managed to get to see them at Earl's Court in '94 on the Pulse tour, if you want to see how they play live then you can't do any better than watching videos of this concert, it is rated as 1 of the BEST ever ( top 3) in the history of music, not just by the Floyd.

Led Zeppelin shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breath as Pink Floyd. They were ok but they were a bunch of posers all the songs on their early albums were just covers of old blues songs. They are decent but don’t compare at all to Pink Floyd

Been listening to these guys since their first release in the UK/US, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.....I think their early stuff (Before Dark side of the Moon) is even better. I love Ummagumma, Adam Heart Mother, Meddle, and Obscured by Clouds. Saw them perform live "Animals" in Hampton Virginia and "The Wall" twice, LA Memorial Sports Arena California in 1980....bought tickets for the Friday and Saturday show......the best visual/sound show you could ever imagine....EVER !!! But I have to tell ya, David Bowie "Diamond Dogs" was one heck of a theatrical show too!!!
