I listened to it for the first time in years this month and do the words sung hit like a ton of bricks. the stuff I used to think was bullcrap really caught up with me about how fast 10 years comes and goes. made me cry a little as the thought of death bearing down on you is inescapable.
I remember my grandfather saying to me 'time is precious, use it well', when you're 5 years old, a day is forever and a week is a lifetime, that was 1970, now at 58 I wonder where the years went, this song is so relevant to everyone's life
"Every year is getting shorter..." 'Dark Side...' isn't my favourite Floyd musically (that's reserved for 'Animals', 'Wish You Were Here' and 'The Wall') , but lyrically this is just fucking sublime.
I can't wait for you to come back to this 20 years from now and see how differently it hits you. "You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today, and then one day you find 10 years have got behind you." No truer words, my friend.
“And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.” Quite possibly the best verse of lyrics ever written. Definitely the truest!
Remember, it takes TIME to get through all Pink Floyd tunes ... they are in no hurry to finish a song. It's done when its done. Just like a good steak.
I've found that different emotional states, points in my life, and intellectual bends at a given time, they all make these new all over again, even as they're so intimately familiar to me.
That's why you love the music because it tells a story. The truly great songs almost always do. I love Floyd and this song is one of their best....I think...
The lyrics of this song won't really hit home until you are much older, I'm glad you are on the Pink Floyd journey, I hope that you turn your friends on to the journey, as others have stated their albums are meant to be listened too nonstop from start to finish, all of them ! Put your headphones on, lay back, relax and enjoy my friend 🙂 God Bless.
It’s in and out of the band’s top 5 on Spotify and a track on their most well known record. It’s not underrated in any way let alone their most underrated lol
Its a year since you found Pink Floyd and i just found you! You are a treasure and i watch and listen to you everyday now. Im 78 and i never ever get tired of Floyd. ENJOY ALL YOUR RESPONSES....THANKS
I remember in 1993 In my local pub we were playing a darts match against some fellas from a local social club and this song came on the jukebox and all the old fellas started running out the pub they thought the fire alarm was going off bearing in mind we were all stoned out-of our heads and everyone couldn't stop laughing 1 of the funniest things I've seen in my life 😂😂😂😂😂
'Time Gentleman please ' 'Aint you got no homes to to !!!!....' Old enough to remember it well!! The 'Nags Head ' the wonderful dodgy/edgy live music pub, my local, for my misspent 70s youth! The landlord had two Dobermans that he released into the bar at closing time!!... Great memories!!....
Syd was no longer in the band when DSOTM came out. He left in '68. David Gilmour does most of the vocals (and often harmonizes with Rick Wright, keyboardist) as well as guitar. Roger Waters wrote the lyrics and played bass.
I was fortunate to see their Dark Side of The Moon concert in 1976 at Milwaukee County Stadium. The best concert I have ever seen in my life! We had to drive 180 miles to see them, but the atmosphere was unbelievable. There were joints being passed in every direction. I was sitting in an aisle seat and there were two policemen standing on the step. A joint was passed to me and I looked at the cop and he was watching me, but what the hell, I took a big hit and passed it on and he wasn't the least bit interested. It was an experience, and I thank you for reviving those memories. Love your channel! Keep em coming.
Looking forward to your reaction on this. Get ready for another Floyd build up to a great song with hard hitting lyrics and of course a top class Gilmour guitar solo!
The first singer in "Time" is David Gilmour who also plays that ethereal incredible guitar solo in the middle of the song! The second and more ethereal voice is Rick Wright the keyboardist. Also this album came out in 1973 and Syd Barrett, he stopped being a part of the band in 1968! Reason being, he became schizophrenic and it was possibly brought on by way too much LSD!! They had to leave him behind because he was becoming destructive to the band. He would just play one note over and over or detune his guitar during live shows so on the way to a gig they just did not pick him up one time and that was it!! Don't fret!!! They did not abandon him at all, EVER!!!; They made sure he got everything he deserved and even helped him on 2 solo albums later on when he seemed to get a little better! At that point he didn't want to be a part of the band anymore! He was worth 6 to 8 million pounds at the time of his death in 2006 so as I stated they did not abandon him!!
Dark Side of the Moon was my introduction to Pink Floyd. I was 19 years old when they released this album, and played it constantly as I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy. So I will always associate Pink Floyd with J.R.R. Tolkien's work. Pink Floyd will always be one of my favorite bands of all time.
David’s guitar is plugged into his SOUL. Keep the Floyd reactions coming! Love your reactions! Your life will be forever changed listening to this band.
For some epic David Gilmour guitar solos I recommend High Hopes (live from Pulse), Dogs, and Hey You. There's so much more but these will give you warm fuzzies for sure. 🤘🏽💗
David Gilmore is the most beautiful man GOD ever created. His voice soothes my soul and his fingers massaging those strings, soothes an entirely different area.
Welcome to the world of Pink Floyd! You have so many brilliant songs, so many masterpiece albums to listen to. As others here in the comments have said (you will hear this a lot, lol) many of their albums are meant to be heard in one sitting. These albums are a part of a whole concept. While you can certainly play the songs one at a time, I highly suggest a playthrough of this particular album, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall in one sitting, as they are meant to be heard-whenever you get the chance. Enjoy your journey listening to the best band that ever was!
Got high with a friend of mine at 14. He says lets go to your house i have something new to listen to. Turned on Dark Side. Mellow listening and then the alarms and bells go off. SURPRISE Damn that was 48 yrs ago. A fan ever since
The Dark Side Of The Moon was recorded in 1973. Syd Barrett was only in the band until early 1968. Most of the vocals since then have been sung by David Gilmour. In this case, along with keyboardist Rick Wright (as in Echoes, for example). Occasionally (and later increasingly) Roger Waters also sang. Only occasionally did someone outside the band sing. For example, the next song after Time is called The Great Gig in the Sky. This was sung by Abbey Road studio backing singer Clare Torry. And it's another gem of rock music. It's sung by all three backing vocalists at the Pulse concert. It's also gorgeous, though I clearly prefer the studio version.
I saw them in concert in the 70’s. This was before surrender sound. They brought in several tractor trailers that were parked behind the audience and the music echoed from one massive trailer speaker to the next and back. Best concert ever! .
Hey MollyBoy, this was David Gilmour singing on the album "Dark Side Of The Moon." Syd Barrett's last album with Pink Floyd was called "Saucerful of Secrets" which was released in 1968; the founding members of Pink Floyd were Syd Barrett (lead vocals, guitar and primary songwriter), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass and vocals), and Richard Wright on (keyboard, vocals). David Gilmour joined the band in 1967 shortly before the departure of Syd Barrett. Gilmour joined as a guitarist and a co-lead vocalist he also wrote songs for the band. (I hope this helps) Here's another song by a different band, if interested. "The Doors - The End (Toronto, 1967)" --This is Jim Morrison, the lead singer and frontman for the band the Doors. This was fun thanks for sharingpeace out~
That was greatr ,I enjoy watching lads like yourself hear Floyd for the first time , reminds me a lot of myself at your age. Lucky man ,there's loads to come from Floyd. cheers. Pulse, Learning to Fly is immense.
David GIlmour gets more emotion out of a guitar than anyone I've ever heard. The part of the guitar solo at 6:04... love it every time. Nothing else like it.
David Gilmour does the vast majority of the vocals. Syd was only really on the first two albums PiperAt The Gates Of Dawn and Saucer Full Of Secrets then left due to mental health problems. If I remember correctly, Gilmour came in during that second album. Lead guitar was always David Gilmour after that.😊
Hello from Australia again, i left this as a selection after i commented on your Comfortably Numb live version. the lyrics are 100% true. don't stop the journey you won't regret it😀😀😀
The great thing is that I can listen to these songs and it takes me back to some crazy times when I was in high school. Back in the day when we all got together and listened to a great stereo or quad system doing you know what.............. Also when CB radios were the thing, LOL.
This piece you’ll appreciate and relate to as you get older. The older you get the more it’ll mean to you and the more profound you will find it. It’s outstanding.
I remember when the Dark side of the Moon album came out. I was 14 years old, living in Juvie, outside at the fence sneaking a smoke when the song TIME floated over my head, echoing in my brain, this perfect musical smoothness flowing into my body and I felt whole, complete. I was filled with such a peaceful feeling that it made me cry and I knew, at that very moment I just knew my life was going to take a turn for the better. Crazy how a song can do that to you. 1973 and indeed, my life was on an upswing! Pink Floyd got into my soul and it never left. You know what I'm talkin about!
I appreciate you bringing music to a community that has probably never heard it before. My community has decades of music appreciation under our belts!
This song is ironically timeless since it speaks so well to a universal aspect of the human experience. i always took this song as a plea for people to be more present in their lives so that they don't fall victim to the same pitfall that most people do in their youth. Because we experience time relative to our lived experience in a very real, literal way the older we get, the faster we experience time. just draw two equal length lines, one represents the life of a 5-year-old and the other the life of a 50-year-old and then demarcate the amount of that line that represents a year and consider the implications.
OMG. Just realized after 50 years after first hearing this song. The long introduction has the feeling & sounds before being born (watery & heartbeat, distant percussive noises). Then it moves through the 3 verses, one for each stage of life, youth, middle age & old age. Don't know about you, but my mind has just blown despite knowing this song 5/6 this of my life🙃
As someone else has mentioned, always try to have the lyrics with you...all their songs are always deep and meaningful. This song will make more sense to you the older you get...trust me on that. The Dark Side Of The Moon is a work of art...a true masterpiece. Once again, have the lyrics drawn up when reacting to it.
I was like 18 when I listened to Pink Floyd for the first time, but I wasn't able to appreciate it until I was around 25 or so. DSOTM is indeed a masterpiece, but Animals is still my favorite album.
Enjoy the journey young man, so glad to see your generation is starting to appreciate the classics. My son has also just discovered Floyd. Nice reaction
Syd Barrett was only part of their first two albums. After his mental issues made continuing with the band impossible, he was replaced in 1968 by David Gilmour. This album - "Dark Side Of The Moon" was their 11th, and Syd was long gone. Their next one - "Wish You Were Here" - is their tribute to their fallen founder, highlighted by the track you did just prior - "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" (Syd). They will once again pay homage to Syd on the final track - "High Hopes" - of their final studio album - "The Division Bell". By any reasonable measure, Gilmour may well be the best guitar artist in of all rock history. He is capable of carrying more emotion with a single bend than most can do using the entire neck. As you get deeper into their catalog, it will become clearer.
I lived in Mammoth Mountain Resort in early 70's and took 2 ops with me...Dark Side of the Moon and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and NEVER TIRED OF THEM!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎😎❤❤❤❤❤❤
You are too young to fully comprehend the significance of the lyrics in this song. When I was your age and first heard this song, I was unaware of the profound depth of those lyrics. Now, after quite a few decades, I can feel the impact of this text. Enjoy yourself while you're young! 👍
I remember listening to this with headphones and being amazed at the stereo on it . Remember all these groups were playing with it to the fullest they could . They did it so well 😊
This is after the Syd era of Pink Floyd. David Gilmour (guitar) sings lead along with Roger Waters (bass) on this album, though there is ample use of session vocalists.
Wanna know the genius of this song? Listen to it every 5 years or so. Every time it will mean something different to you. Each listen.
I listened to it for the first time in years this month and do the words sung hit like a ton of bricks. the stuff I used to think was bullcrap really caught up with me about how fast 10 years comes and goes. made me cry a little as the thought of death bearing down on you is inescapable.

Time hits harder the older you get. Listen again in 10yrs
Welcome. All PINK FLOYD fans are AWESOME 🤘😎💪👊🔥 STAY AWESOME 💯
David Gilmour is the lead singer and lead guitarist on Time. Syd Barrett had left the band a few years before this album was released.
I’m 57 year old truck driver…I’ve never cried like a baby listening to an Angus solo. I can’t say that about Pink Floyd. 🤘
I can't wait for you to come back to this 20 years from now and see how differently it hits you. "You are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today, and then one day you find 10 years have got behind you." No truer words, my friend.
Play the whole album while listening with your headphones on in a dark room !! So happy you are loving the journey so far !
That's indeed the best way, headphones, comfy seat, closed eyes and enjoy the ride...
We always had a dark room with laser lights set to the music. The 70's were the best!
Did that so many times in university!
50 years i have been listening to 'Time'
It makes me cry, now.
You missed the starting gun?
“And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun.”
Quite possibly the best verse of lyrics ever written. Definitely the truest!
Arguable against "did you exchange a walk-on part I war for a lead role in a cage"
Nearly 30 for me 😏
Makes me tear up, every time.
The lyrics about the sun racing to come up behind you and it’s the same but you’re older hits me every time. Love this song.
Just so you’ll know, Dark Side Of The Moon was on the U.S. Billboard charts for “988 weeks” and went fourteen times platinum in the UK.
I never realized but even as long as it's been I see why
Play this at least once every decade of your life. Hits hard always. One day you find, 10 years have got behind you...
David Gilmore is the master of slow intensity and introspection
I love how you said "this is a long introduction" right before the words picked up. Pink Floyd music is a master class in attention span.
Welcome to a time when music was real.
THIS IS Gilmore vocals!!
Remember, it takes TIME to get through all Pink Floyd tunes ... they are in no hurry to finish a song. It's done when its done. Just like a good steak.
This is from probably their biggest selling album “Dark side of the moon “ hard to believe it’s 50 years this year since it’s release
The reason Pink Floid have long introductions is because they are about the music, not themselves.
I would give anything to be able to hear The Floyd for the first time all over again.
I've found that different emotional states, points in my life, and intellectual bends at a given time, they all make these new all over again, even as they're so intimately familiar to me.
That's why you love the music because it tells a story. The truly great songs almost always do. I love Floyd and this song is one of their best....I think...

Syd was already long gone by then, David Gilmour on lead guitar and vocals, Richard Wright ( r I p ) on keyboards and the main vocals on the chorus
You don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd.
You need Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs.
I'm 69...this takes me right to high school!!!!❤❤❤
There are no words for pink Floyd
This is David Gilmour singing the verses and Richard Wright singing the alternate parts.
You have no idea how wonderful it is to get to experience them through a new persons eyes…all over again.
Time is their most underated song ..and everyone most valuable thing we all get
It certainly is NOT their most underrated song! Where did you get that from?
It's my favorite by them. Maybe even by anyone.
It’s in and out of the band’s top 5 on Spotify and a track on their most well known record. It’s not underrated in any way let alone their most underrated lol

The whole album is absolutely brilliant!
I was listing to then when I was 17 and still listing to it today at the age of 64 I see them 8or9 time over here in uk
more than music
more than a song
they are a trip
En una entrevista David guilmour dijo que, Pink Floyd hizo música para tocar la sensibilidad del ser humano 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Now you are born xx̌xx❤
I remember listening to this with headphones and being amazed at the stereo on it . Remember all these groups were playing with it to the fullest they could . They did it so well 😊
This is after the Syd era of Pink Floyd. David Gilmour (guitar) sings lead along with Roger Waters (bass) on this album, though there is ample use of session vocalists.
Live version of the great gig in the sky by Pink Floyd
Many groups had "Concept" albums. Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Elton John, Alan Person's Project, Robin Trower, The Who's "Tommy".
