What a lovely way to spend an early evening at the end of summer. Another simple looking fishing video full of little snippets of information such as bait selection and Waggler use. Great Jon. Cheers
Lovely little session Jon, takes me back to previous holidays I've had up on the Norfolk Broads sitting outside a holiday cottage fishing until late in the evening
I am extremely envious Jon ,you fishing my all time favourite method ,running water waggler fishing ,I need to get to the Trent for a session hemp and tares a great combo thanks Jon
Hello John love the videos, me and my M8s fish the Thames in Oxfordshire a lot. we use sweetcorn on the waggler in summer to get around the bleak instead of tares ( just feed a few grains in with the hemp) might be worth a try goid luck👍
We used the old drennan bait trays for those pegs and a big bucket.attached with a bungee cord with the hemp and tares in ......Great fun.......good luck at river fest 😊😊😊😊
Great video Jon simple fishing done well and learnt a tip defrost my hemp and tares got a freezer full done last year but couldnt get out due to bad health
Hi John I drew that peg you are on the Sutton Courtney teams of 4 and had 15lb of roach on the waggle that was second on the match we also won the team event.
Hi Jon I’m going on Monday for a practice on beating the bleak! I have a match later on in the month. I’m going to try 4mm pellets for the roach as well. Great video 👏🏼
Hi Jon just got home! Only way I could get passed the bleak was pellet and sweetcorn. Caught on both. Tares weren’t working bleak had them! 😢 I’m not even going to buy casters or maggots yet.. Had about 5lb of fish in 4 hours. With probably an hour trying to work it out. I ended using a 3.5 gram waggler went heavy to avoid the bleak and I think in my match coming up I’m going to use a bolo, 5-6 grams I’ve got in my box. Olivette and all the weight at the bottom. I suppose I could feeder fish it but you don’t explore the swim half as much! With todays condition I’m quite happy the weather was rough! I’ve never fished a match but I’ve watch your videos thank you. I think I’m going to ball out groundbait with 2/3mm pellets and hemp. Then just feed hemp.
I get asked a lot, but if you search for one of my older long Evesham Festival films at around 10 minutes in it shows all: th-cam.com/video/tKSRBMBwp38/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RFGz9N74vhDrpcKW&t=628
Great video as usual really enjoyed watching proper fishing,if I could only fish one method it would be the waggler, getting a bit fed up with all these commercial videos catching carp they’re all the same
Nice jon just ordered 2k tares from hinders p&p pennies over £10 in total as i got to do it by post.thats not bad. now run over to the chemist for some iron tabs
yes i cooked them under done been in and out of the freeze cooked a pint up 4th day now i think and just getting them now to soften up these are small uniform tares can see them great on a canal as well soon i get some from a pet shop loose
Tares are a particle bait that are readily available in all good uk tackle shops (often both dry or cooked) and are a seed or pulse. Also used as horse and bird feed so they are also available from some grain and animal feed merchants. Honestly don’t know what plant they derive from though. Bigger than hemp and, once prepared, easier to hook, so make a good compliment to hempseed. Prepped very similar to hemp by soaking and boiling.
@@JonArthur we used them too all work now I mostly use seeds for my big carp fishing.groats are great nice and milky roach etc will take them.Anyway best of luck mate next time you're on the bank.
Cracking little session that Jon. Which catapult is that you use out of the new range ? I'm going to get me self one. All the best for tomorrow on the trent
Always good tips on this evening session, Jon have you ever tried this hemp & tares on a carp commercial or does it just not work . Great content as usual Jon.
Yes mate hemp and tares will work for carp on commercials in the right conditions, I've had carp on them in September and October when the weather is cooler and they are used along with maggots
Jon Arthur I think your an amazing all round angler, but something, that has always wondered me for the past 20-30 years is….. Why is hemp, worm and caster so successful on lakes and rivers, esp as loosefeed yet, if I’ve ever put a tare on the hook in a natural lake, it’s always been kiss of death, yet in a river, if you can get them going, it can be so successful What’s the difference? Top angling!!!
I remember Pete Rice winning a match with 99lb of F1s on tares at Tunnel Barn many many years ago and Im sure you'd catch on a Stillwater with them. Im sure I have, but thats a long time ago too. I think tares on a river work for several reasons, including being so easy to hook, the slightly bigger stand-out size, the extra weight helps stop them flapping as much as hemp, the weight might also help you hook the fish easier, they are easier to pin to the bottom in a fast flow, the flow also means a fish has less time to inspect the hook bait. But as far as it being the kiss of death on a Stillwater I think you'd be surprised if you gave them another go. It's something on my long list of things to try. All the best.
Hmm, I know this is a popular belief but I have rarely experienced it myself, plus a bulk or block of shot will actually be closer to the size of a tare than stringing them out. eg. Even a grain of hemp is tonnes bigger than a No8 shot. The way to tell if they're shot bites or not is to cast out without a tare on. I tend to think you're just missing genuine bites most of the time. Mostly from fish too small to take the hook and hook bait in confidently.

Hello John love the videos, me and my M8s fish the Thames in Oxfordshire a lot. we use sweetcorn on the waggler in summer to get around the bleak instead of tares ( just feed a few grains in with the hemp) might be worth a try goid luck👍
Good stuff, I have caught on the Thames on corn a few times but don't seem to get it to work so well on the float in a match.
Great evening session Jon great video
Thanks 👍

Yep I’ll pack my bait waiter or apron next time
Great video Jon simple fishing done well and learnt a tip defrost my hemp and tares got a freezer full done last year but couldnt get out due to bad health
Best of luck getting out on the bank
Them bites are real quick on the tares but once you get them going its quality all the way. Thank you for a peaceful fishing session.
You bet
Well done Jon, looked like you really enjoyed that.
I did!
Nice one Jon,love these session films
Glad you like them mate
Brilliant again Jon lad
Thanks for watching :-)
Hi John I drew that peg you are on the Sutton Courtney teams of 4 and had 15lb of roach on the waggle that was second on the match we also won the team event.
Nice one Martin. All the lower moors pegs look nice don’t they
Lovely fishing, save some large hemp for the dace/roach at stourport 👍
Absolutely
Nice video There Jon, and a very quiet place to fish, some might say you more at one with the river standing in the water, Thank you
Yep love sitting or standing in the water. Easier to slide fish to the hand too
Just shows what fun one can have for an hour after tea😃
Absolutely :-)
Hi Jon I’m going on Monday for a practice on beating the bleak! I have a match later on in the month. I’m going to try 4mm pellets for the roach as well. Great video 👏🏼

Love that peg its about 7 foot where you were fishing
Many thanks, yes I assumed it was about that. Bottomless above the pumping station though!
I fish a few miles from there on the Thames and get big Roach on a single tare especially early evening.
Nice one. Love the Thames!
Great video Jon, wished I live a bit closer
Me too ha ha
That was a lovely watch , I'd love to fish that peg with a stick float & feeding Hemp to hand down the inside .
You and me both!
look forward to your videos on the 3 day festival
Hopefully they'll come out Ok, not had time to look at any footage yet...
Takes me back a bit Jon, every weekend on the Trent, lovely vid Jon 😊

Good luck on river fest
Many thanks for the support
Great stuff proper, Good luck at BJ John

Love your videos jon. You do so well on your own. Hope you are back to full fitness now after having Covid.
Thanks mark not too bad now 👍👍
Really enjoyed that jon 👍,can i ask how you prepare your tares please 👍

yes i cooked them under done been in and out of the freeze cooked a pint up 4th day now i think and just getting them now to soften up these are small uniform tares can see them great on a canal as well soon i get some from a pet shop loose
was that a bittern i heard at 11:11
Maybe! 🪶
I hear you did well on the Thames Festival. Did this session help?
I never sadly never drew a waggler peg on the festival but still had it with me just in case
Proper fishing beats them tame fish in the comercials . You often catch on rates well off the bottom
Yep great way to catch 👍
Tares are a cracking bait if you get them on them the roach just don’t let go
Yep love catching on tares when they’ll have it
Jon watched your video and I can do my hook by hand now thanks Jon keep doing videos can you do lasso please
Great stuff. I have little use for a lasso but it’s something I can add to my list cheers
Hi Jon, I'm in New Zealand. Can you tell me what a (tear) is that you fish with. It looks like some sort of berry, but I'm not sure.
Tares are a particle bait that are readily available in all good uk tackle shops (often both dry or cooked) and are a seed or pulse. Also used as horse and bird feed so they are also available from some grain and animal feed merchants. Honestly don’t know what plant they derive from though. It’s a pea from a plant called vetch, I believe. They’re mentioned in a parable in the bible!
I used mung beans with taress in the 80s worked well .
I have some pearl barley in the freezer and various other seeds to try. Just need the time...
@@JonArthur we used them too all work now I mostly use seeds for my big carp fishing.groats are great nice and milky roach etc will take them.Anyway best of luck mate next time you're on the bank.
If you were in a match would you go for small fry or go with feeder for bigger fish ?
All depends on the day and peg really
Cracking little session that Jon. Which catapult is that you use out of the new range ? I'm going to get me self one. All the best for tomorrow on the trent
I carry both the large frame models and swap on the day, strong and x strong 👍
Always good tips on this evening session, Jon have you ever tried this hemp & tares on a carp commercial or does it just not work . Great content as usual Jon.
Yes mate hemp and tares will work for carp on commercials in the right conditions, I've had carp on them in September and October when the weather is cooler and they are used along with maggots
It definitely works. I saw a match won at tunnel barn on tares many years ago! And a lot of neglected silvers in these venues
Jon buddy, the rod handle looks a touch long. Look back at the footage and see if you agree? The rod has a wonderful action, however.
I hadn't noticed to be honest, but I don't want to take a saw to it!
Hi from Cape Town can you weigh bleak in when fishing a match ?
Yes you can!
🤟
Hello everybody. Where can i find tares?
Most uk tackle shops stock tares, some do pre-prepared on little bags or tubs.
Jon Arthur I think your an amazing all round angler, but something, that has always wondered me for the past 20-30 years is…..

I bulk my weights up when tear fishing because roach will take your weights thinking they are tears

Hi Jon great vid.
Iv just got one question that’s nagging me.
What was the depth?
Cheers daft lad 👍🍺🍌
I reckon it was anywhere from 7ft to 70ft!
@@JonArthur cheers I hate not knowing 🤣
Great video mate and you wouldn't be a proper fisherman with out doing the mandatory 2-3 last casts at the end of an enjoyable few hours ,
Absolutely 🤣🐟🐟🐟🐟
Just fish hemp and tares
Maybe with the beauty of hindsight but I wanted to try several baits thanks
