super as always Jon,nice to see a bit of stick float fishing,i drew a peg next to John Allerton many many years ago on a fosters midweek open on the severn,we both blanked, what a absolute legend and gentleman, enjoyable as always Jon,many thanks
So happy you ventured to the river again. Love this style of fishing. Would have liked to see some B roll of the float making its way through the swim, but appreciate its difficult and you had limited time. Always look forward to your videos.
Spent a couple of days in Oxford during the summer and couldn't get over the life in the Cherwell. Huge shoal of bleak, dace, roach and rudd shooting round all over the place.
God you’ve got some strong nerves with those shot on your knee. I think I might have managed a cpl on the line before some form of leg tremor had them in the grass 😂👍🍌
Hi John Really enjoyed that, watching you work out the best way to tackle the swim with limited equipment was very informative, i would have probably used a feeder, the stick would have been my second choice, learned quite a bit though, thanks for sharing your session with us. Take care, stay safe, regards to the family and keep it lit.👍 my friend.
another brilliant watch Jon ♥. 200lb of carp or a few fish like I've just watched you catch in this video?? Well I would take a few hours catching those fish on a natural water using the stick float every time ♥♥
Lovely Jon, are matrix missing a trick? Not making that style of landing net. The tackle tarts and rovers would by. Great first session 👍 looking forward to your next. 👏👏
The amount of times I’ve had my shots on my knee like u did while putting them on your line and knocked them off is unbelievable lol, great video though 👍
What rod is more faster and stiffer Cadence Match Rod or Drenann acolyte plus in the same length? And what match rods are better in your oppinion? Thanks.
@@JonArthur I have a allcock split cane rod it was my grandfathers He gave it to me and I just carnt part with it I was going to give it a go at Woodlands lol
Awesome Jon, where abouts is this? I've got the Banbury permit but having difficulties finding the rivers and how to access them. Any help would be appreciated and I understand you're busy. Keep up the great work.
@@JonArthur thank you Jon. I'm new around here and find it difficult to actually find decent swims from the book as I don't know where everything is haha 😂 cheeky but in future videos any chance you could add the what three words to where you park up so I can find these places? Many thanks Jon love your videos
Hi Jon just catching up on your videos I have just come across your channel. The little Weir pool you was fishing 8 months ago is on my doorstep I wonder if you knew my brother in law he was a bid fisherman his name is Alan Hancock look forward to the next video all the best. Carl
Hi Carl, if it was the late Alan who lived down Welsh Road, and was married to Elaine, then yes he was a very very good friend of mine! I learnt loads off him and he even drove me to several matches and kept the best redworms ever. I still have his old scrapbooks and and I was very proud to run his one-off memorial match, held on the Grand Union at Bascote. A big hero of mine. So sad the big C got him. Really miss him!
@@JonArthur Thanks Jon for the reply yes it is Alan that lived down Welsh road I fished that match and lost a big fish at the end I wonder what he would have said. I often heard him talking of you that was why I messaged. I live round the corner from Elaine so if you ever fish the Weir pool again or local would like to meet for a chat if possible thanks again for your time Jon. By the way I have just got back into angling since I took Alan fishing just before he passed away I packed up did not have the heart to carry on but slowly getting some gear together now and starting over any tips much appreciated all the best. Carl
Been back fishing after a 30 odd year break and still can't understand how you guys always seem to be using open faced reels for trotting. It looks so clumsy when you compare it to using the old 506s and 501, 507s ABUs, which are so slick. I'll be keeping to 501s, mine are still as good as the day I bought them, back in the day when I match fished. Any feedback?
@@JonArthur I guess it's what your happiest with. Enjoyed your tribute to Bill by the way...his Easy Fishing videos are full of sound advice Keep up the good work
I love to see Jon proper fishing, instead of bungee jumping silly carp on a pole in commercials 😨 .... he ain't half bad when he gets back to his roots ..... I await the cutting reply 😂 ❤ ....ps. I'd rather go fishing with casters + hemp, than maggots any day x
Great easy going , and easy to understand, nice guy, and I really enjoyed this, all the best Clive.
Glad you enjoyed it Clive. I definitely need to do another stick video this winter.
Thank you Jon for another river session! Every time you river fish you learn… because the river is never the same and that’s why I love it!
Absolutely
Thanks!
That is so so kind and very much appreciated Clive. I'm really glad you enjoy my humble little films. Tight lines!
@@JonArthur More than welcome, same back to you, I'm useing the whip on the Thames tomorrow been a few years lol hoping for a few nice winter Roach.

Yes I actually went to get some extra footage but got carried away and totally forgot in the end. Blame it on the footy

thanks Jon, looking forward to this, used to fish it years ago.

great vid, ty for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice short session John, not many, but quality fish. Just shows that a couple of hours can be beneficial to heart and soul. Don't work too hard.
Thanks John
Great as usual Jon, used to catch some good tench from the Cherwell near Banbury back in the 80s, often wondered if they are still there
I imagine a few are there if you can find them
Nice one jon👍
Thanks 👍

And angler?? :-)
Lovely Jon, are matrix missing a trick? Not making that style of landing net. The tackle tarts and rovers would by.

I think it's more of a 'specialist angler's' item while Matrix is a dedicated match brand

No shots were harmed in the making of this film! :-)

Go for the Cadence as they're newer models and James really knows his stuff
Jon
How about a bit of centre pin and split cane
And maybe a quill
That would be good to see
I actually have a centrepin but still never ever used it. You can keep the split cane rods though ha ha

Watchable as always John, those number 8s went on smoothly, what’s the brand you use ? Cheers.
Regarding to the box, they are Ballabenis mate. Jon would confirm I think.

cracking hybrid
Yes amazing fish
Where abouts is this on the cherwell?
what's that gatchet called you put the weights onto the line
They're called Styl Pincers or Styl Pliers
Hi Jon , where do you get those pliers from ? Thanks
They’re called Styl Pincers if you Google them
Feeding hemp, and with number 8’s on the line I suspect there could have been some false bite. . . . Just a thought
Maybe but I don't think it's a big issue with tiny little No8s. Maybe with larger No4s and above?
Jon do u ever use swivels for your trotting?
Yes sometimes. I have messed around with micro swivels quite a lot over the years and they’d certainly be ok
nice 0ne jon.
Thanks 👍

I have an old Abu and a heavy new one, but tend to only use them if its windy, but would certainly have worked, just find them less versatile at times

You're nothing if not controversial, Phil :-)
No8s WTF. I don't have the patience for that. 🤣
Much kinder to the line and denser than non toxic No6s or No4s though, so worth the effort
For the mighty algorithm
Eh?
Not fished river do you fish bait just off bottom
Like any float fishing, you adjust the depth to suit what's happening. If you fish over depth too much it will drag under in the current however.
@Jon Arthur Angling ok cheers Jon great video
What sort of video do you call that?!!!
Where’s the foul hooked motor cycle engine? 😃
Yours, disappointed,
West Yorks 😂
😂😂😂
I would have knocked all those shot into the grass !
😂
Don"t bother addressing our questions Amigo,, just get fishing , Katie is very important too.
