No, Villem ending is best!
Tough talking about best ending when you have the choice between killing Gascon Reynard and Villem. I mean, I know the first two were good all along and Villem was a traitor, but he's a child for god's sake. All solutions seem so terrible to me... This decision, knowing the consequences, was probably the toughest I had in any video game. Great video though, thank you!
Thank you for this! Great video! I'm happy with my ending: Meve+Reynard, Villem proves to be a great successor, umans and non-umans trying to be kind to each other... But Gascon's death made me drop a tear... Love his music theme, especially in the Broussard's tomb.

I wonder why Reynard wasn't at Meve's side in my ending. I can't figure out what decision led to this.
@@moist_captain So I'm not sure if this is it, but I just beat the game and Reynard was at my side. Just before the very end of the game I went into the mess hall to see if there were any last conversations to be had. Although he had no exclamation point above his head, there was a new dialog option with Reynard. There's basically an option and dialogue that takes place along the lines of Meve telling Reynard that she wants him to stop referring to her as just his queen "if you catch my meaning" (she says). I assume this is what triggers it, because there was nothing else ever in the game indicating any sort of "romance" option during dialogue that I saw. But again, I'm not sure.
@@shanesimms3665 That's kinda odd that they would make it hidden like that since he is by Meve's side the whole game after all. I went there sometimes but there didn't seem to be much new conversations.

Gascon death is his best ending imo, sure he dies, but goes from bandit to legendary hero, respected for all time

They would be good games to explore aspects of the Witcher universe as anyone but a Witcher. Perhaps you could play as a knight in one or a Nilfgaardian officer in another.

In mine, Villem died in prison, Gascon died and was buried with the pointer statue, the non-humans lived in fear, and Meve was the lonely bloodthirster.

They briefly did if you talk to everybody at the tavern after Aep Dahy's battle...but yes, there isn't a proper narrated ending for them. Sadly this happened even in The Witcher 3 ending :-/

Arnolf goes back to the skellige lands and Isbel becomes meve’s advisor at court. You can talk to them at camp.

Loved every second of this game. I was so extremely invested in this story. I literally raged and loved with it. Even enthousiastically telling the story to my gf. Great experience and thanks for putting this together. I'm satisfied with my ending. Gascon died a hero, I let him have his privacy so not in the family grave but it's ok, Odo is with Meve and Villem (foreshadowing villem = villain) got to rot in his cell which really was a little bit more than I signed up for but I'd rather have that than him being 'the hero'. That piece of shit filled me with rage that lasted the whole game through.

He becomes an hero by sacrificing himself. Imo it's a nice redemption.
Amazing lol. This game is so immersive isnt it. But Villem actually turned out to be quite a good son, who just needed a little bit more trust and recognition from his mother and was also very helpful in the rest of the game. Tried to do everything right while he was with Nilfgaard

In my playthrough, Villem died a hero, Gascon alive, Reynard alive, Laws against oppression, bloodthirsty one and solo meve.
Pretty much how I felt throughout the game. Played Meve with my view on most things and must say, I think i chose right... even with "the worst ending" for Meve.

Just finished this game today! In my playthrough Villem died, but Gascon and Reynard live, with Reynard becoming Meve's companion. What an amazing game!
Same ending I had, with anti-discrimination laws for nonhumans, and Nilfgaardians calling Meve “bloodthirsty”
How did Gascon survive?? I chose him to stealthily enter Rivia Castle and he dieded, what about you??

- He perished in the fray a hero, and would be remembered as such.
- Meve never forgave him his betrayal.
- The Duke of Dogs, a marauder, was interred with honors befitting the truest of royals.
- Fresh flowers appeared on his tomb each day. Thanks to whom, you might ask? I'd venture to say, you know.

Just finishes the game and loved the Story, I am really happy with my endings. Villem defended the realm and fully gained Meves trust, Gascon got the best Burial, the Non-humans lived harmoniosly (for a while) and Meve and Reynard are together in the end.
I finished this game just a while back. I got the Meve + Reynard ending with Gascon buried in his family grave and Villem leading the army. Now I'm stoked for Cyberpunk2077. I fell in love with Meve, all credit goes to CDPR for making such an awesome story.

Damn. Such a great game. Just finished it. Quite late to the party I guess, but I am not good at finishing games so theres that. I have to say I absolutely loved this game, one of my favourites ever I must say. I got Villem as a worthy successor, Gascon dead as a proper Brossard, Reynard at Meves side, the elves and dwarves hopeful but Meve feared by the Nilfgardians. I think that was quite the good ending. hated to have Gascon killed but when it comes to secret missions I would have always picked him over Reynard. I guess I could have done more to dispell the Nilfgardian opinion of Northeners as barbarians but then again I really hated that smug embassador...
I'm really disapointed that many of the Witcher fans and players didn't play this one. IT IS SO GOOOD! In some cases even better than the Witcher 3, imo

It's a perfect example of how to write a "strong" female character, the dialogue between the queen Reynard and Gascon is 10/10 it just sucks you into the story, it's like playing a film, unlike borderlands 3 which makes my brain scream cringe cringe cringe

probably the only thing that I regretted was flipping from being very merciless + then being merciful ....making Meve a bloodthirsty killer vs the nilfgaard and soft of the non-humans
With me it was kind of the other way round. I started playing and always tried to do the right, the "good" thing but then got screwed over with that so much plus saw the atrocities Nilfgaard committed, so I went for more merciless decisions myself to teach them a lesson. Feels to me like that was at times a bit overboard and not what (imo) Meve would do, so I wish with some decisions that I'd been a bit more on the soft side.
Why be merciless against Nilfgaardians? Be Chivalrous, that's the Northern way

In my ending,
- Gascon dies, he is buried in his family tomb.
- Villem lives, and he served on the battlefield to repay his past mistakes and regain his honor.
- Reynard lives, and he becomes Meve's right hand.
- The Southerners labeled Meve as 'the bloodthirsty one', feared her.
- Racial issue towards non-human slowly subsided.
In my opinion this is the best combination.
I've seen some of another ending on youtube,
Reynard's death event led toward an awkward situation. Meve is mistaken Gascon for Reynard, etc.
However, Reynard is needed by The Queen's side.
Gascon dies, but death is a romance on its own. His last word toward Meve, the scene when his Tomb showed, the crowned Dogs statue, it's really beautiful. Man i love Gascon.
Villem became man of field, showing the will of redemption. Meve must be proud of him.
Yes, the Nilfgaardian cursed Meve of her cruelty, but that's an honor to be feared by the enemies. Nilfgaardian praising her is rather strange, i think.
And the racial issue.. yes. While throughout the game i never really care about this matter. Seeing something changes in the end makes me satisfied and happy.
I replayed the game to save Gascon and the non-humans, such an epic hidden gem.
"Worst ending" appears to be the best ending imo. Don't want a traitor as support nor ending up with my general. It's just represented like a smooth dictator but I always played Meve in an honest and forgiving way with the ones who deserved it.
Both my counselors are alive and all the trusty ones are still with me in the end. Just disappointed that non-humans still lives in fear but I think Rayla have a lot to do with that, I should have tossed her earlier. To bad that keeping Gabor in the court don't seem to change anything.

You decide previously that you would not forgive his betrayal. And when you meet him in the tower, you have the option to arrest him. It´s usually Gascon who arrests him

I got the ending where Gascon lived, Villem died honorably and Meve ruled together with Raynard. Probably the best possible outcome?
Gascon should have died, Reynard marries Meve and Villem lives because he will reconcile with his mom and willing to prove himself good much like knight errant in quest. You can't let Gascon lives really, guy is 100% gonna return to banditry much like eastern europe nobility.
Sadest thing about this is that there never was another tale... and likely, there wont ever be one.
is it possible to let Gascon live and still romance Reynard? Or does Gascon need to be dead for that to happen?

i get the good ending, meve rule with his son, gascon sacrifice himself to open the gate combined with their family mausoleum restoration, is a fit ending, his family honour restored and all that..
good game overrall, the only problem is the difficulty, should have 1 higher difficulty, i need to use the trophy card and magic cards only in the last battle otherwise the whole game was very easy.. looking forward to something similar.

What is the true ending in the witcher's books?

Grigor Stoyanovich it is never clarified that specifically. The only of these characters that appear in the books is Meve as the Queen who won the war, in the end of the last book. Oh and the scene where she meets Geralt, but apart from that, she doesn‘t appear and neither do her companions. So there‘s no „canonical“ ending.

i like the forevr alone ending the most, though i accepted villens request, and gascon died, which is his best ending since i find it lazy writing for him to just run away. I don't know it seems kinda like meve, after being betrayed so many times to be that just but harsh character, its how i played her letting be those who ask for it, but executing those who deserve it.
My meve is bloodthirsty. But why? I pardoned almost all the prisoners, deserters. Unfortunately I clicked a wrong button in the end and the elves were handed over to Demavent. What did I do wrong!

Just finished it tonight! Amazing game! I got the Meve and Reynard ending (Though was so sad when Gascon died!!) I got the bloodthirsty one for Meve (oops) and the good Velem ending. Pretty happy with this tbh!

I'm pretty sure it was foltest who saved the north what with him sending heavy elite troops to reinforce kedwean making it impossible for Nilfguuards army to drive one of the castles without being attacked by another.
And being in command of the battle of Brenna which is where Nilfguuard was defeated

Without Meve it is unlikely that Foltest and the others could muster a force for brenna, as defeatism was ripe, and as is said several times redania and kaedwen were considering surrender at the time

Just finished thronebreaker, excellent game. Really wish there was more types of games like this. Really liked alot of the characters especially Meve, Gascon and Reynard. I got the ending with Reynard that its implied there is something more and not genereal and advisor. And that she doesnt want to give him more orders, does that mean "lover" or something like that is implied, i would still guess ,she is overall in charge and insead of ordering him shes is more asking him of favors?

Damn, just finished it for the first time, it was great.
I got pretty close to imo. perfect ending: Villem died somewhat redeemed, Reynard (as LI) and Gascon alive, Meve Bloodthirsty (sorry I'm not making deals with slavers and that's just the tip of the iceberg), but I did messed up non-humans, even thou I always treated well the innocent/non-violent ones (And I did pay a price for that most of the time) keeping Rayla must have outweigh the scales, which is sad since I really didn't want to do it but at that time my deck was literally built around her. I did greatly improve it short after and ended up not needing her, so I did regret it throughout the rest of my playthrough.
It's really irritating when there is no proper saving system.
Is it possible to save Gascon, Reynard and Villem? I think not, but please let me know.

Meve has 2 sons so its not forever alone with villem gone
yepp, which was a shame. also, people hate villem a lot - which I can understand, but he is the only true heir of Rivia. If you think about it, meve was the princesses of lyria who married the prince of rivia, future king of rivia and they combined their countries as adults into one. And so, villem the son of both, is actually the only one who has blood from both sides. and the real "uniter" in some sense. so his action as the real ruler, since his father ruled before he died make some sense- even if I dont like him myself in the game. what I mean is, it would make sense for the lords to stand behind him since 50% of the lords came from rivia, and meve isnt even from rivia.

His name is Villentretenmerth. He is a golden dragon in human form. The three birds on his chest proof that it's him. He only appeared in the books until now.

Yeah, don't care much about him, I was more thinking if it was ever mention later on in the game?
Personally, I would want to save the dragon, not because I think that her murder spree was justified, but rather because she is one of the few dragons left and having such beast could be useful for future generations with advancement in scientific studying and more developed communication skills... kinda like we would all wish to have dinosaurs jn our age.
But on the other hand, I don't wanna piss off the old dwarf too much.

i killed the dragon even if eyck left a long time ago ( when i kept curch treasure in lyria) because in my head there was 2 endings. 1. if i kill it, dwarves are happy i get troops and he doesnt kick me out or 2. i get no troops he kick me out BUT the dragon comes later and helps me. but in reality everything revolves around eyck

Does anybody know the relation between Geralt in the Witcher games and in this one? He had such a small insignificant part.. also, I expected: the dragon to return and aid me in battle, the witchers to play some big role in the end, Gascon to eventually leave me (so sad when he died) or having to choose between having either Reynard or Gascon leave me.. what a game, like playing an interactive audio book
The battle of the Bridge is in the Witicher books, where Geralt meets Meve, it's relatively accurately portrayed here.
Just finished it. Was a good game. Reminded me of Banner Saga, with you moving across the world and people changing around you according to your choices. I passionately hated the card battles (hated Gwent in TW3 as well), but was glad to be able to skip most. By the way, do we learn who the storyteller is? I could not recognise him, then again I did not read any of the books.
I enjoyed this game, but my god the game would crash so much at times it would drive me mad!
I couldn't defeat general "Aep Dahy" yet cuz my deck is fucked up after Black rayla, sir Eyck and Gabor left me :(

pretty sure you can load areas of the game multiple times after finishing so its not that many but still more than i would ever be able to do

You can betray villem in the tower of the devil and arrest him, and for Reynald you make him die when he opens thr door of the castle of rivia, that's how we get that end.

I wish I would've gotten the ending where Villem died rotting in a cell. He does not deserve to be remembered as a Hero.
I see him as much a similar character to Svanrige in TW3, who rules Skellige if you don't put either An Craite on the throne. Your perception of him starts out negative, though if given a chance (in the case of Thronebreaker, forgiving him) he grows into his role perfectly. In his "good" ending cutscene you can see he actually becomes a ruler in the same mold as Meve, strong and courageous, much like how the apparent puppet Svanrige became the man who brought the Skellige clans to heel and assimilated them into one undemocratic kingdom under one bloodline.
@@absolute1936 You are too spiteful and unforgiving, you do realise that Caldwell was the one that stirred the lords against Meve? Villem was a tool that was being manipulated and played, if he hadn't gone with the betrayal, he would've been assassinated. Villem was naive and hoped that the Nilfgaardians hold their promises, he never wanted to hurt his mother. And in a really ironic way, the only way the North could've defeated the invaders was to lure them into a false sense of security and play on their arrogance while slowly chipping them away, they had no chance in the open field, even with everyone united. Maybe if you had kids , you'd understand what lengths a parent will go to for their children.

I was too brutal on niflguardians (well, they werent really nice either) and also oppresed minorities. That was weird, but i guess game punished me how i killed all the scoia'taels in the Aedirn (seriously, that fucking willow, with people tied to it, still alive, i just could not forget it nor forgive). Maybe killing the village of non-humans, but on the other hand, they burned everybody in the mill. And of course, Black Rayla killed all the dwarves, that was a bummer, of course i kicked her out on the spot, would hang her if i could. In the end, i probably got more negatives then good, alas, its just a game.
The Scoia'Tael are not regular troops and as such cannot benefit from the status of prisoners of war.
They are basically common bandits, and in the North, bandits hangs, especially if they gruesomely commit murders and massacres.
As for the Nilfgardians, it depends. If you saw them commit attrocities seconds before, it's fair game to hang them. Otherwise, I'd be more merciful.

nope depending on your witcher 3 ending they own all of the North exept Temeria as a vassal kingdom

Whatever happens in Thronebreaker, Meve will eventually lose her kingdom once again and go into hiding (when Nilfgaard rolls through the North in Witcher 3). But it's suggested that Lyria and Rivia may have no choice but to turn themselves into vassal states, hence why Anséis (Meve's second son) had the privilege of fighting a tourney in Toussaint, a small vassal state under Nilfgaard (Witcher 3: Blood & Wine). One could also look at the darker alternative, where Meve is either again betrayed by her son, or dead.
This is based on the ending where Nilfgaard conquers the North.
@Arocedric instresting there forgot about her son in Blood & Wine yeah maybe but still dont Think Meve would ever surredner to Nilfgaard but if she died on the field i could see her son doing it again or maybe she is waiting to strike again
but no matter that for now all of the North is Nilfgaard might change in a game set in the future of Witcher 3

I could've ended up with Reynard, it was a matter of saying "I want you to be something more", I just didn't. I always wanted Gascon to get involved with her, not to marry obviously, but to have some fun. Reynard is SO BORING and Meve's got a wild spirit. somewhere. very deep.
May be Meve does need Raynard to feel complete :) She's looks the happiest in that ending
