Ever since discovering his games years ago, Ivanchuk has become my favorite player to watch. In this age of engines and memorization, he seems to be one of the only great players to often play in a way that is interesting to himself as opposed to just striving for engine accuracy. He is also fascinating in that he is capable of beating the best players or losing to mediocre players depending on his mood. Not many players are such a wild card and genuine threat across the spectrum like he is. I hope the other masters enjoy getting to play such an interesting player.
I haven't seen Dubov competing much lately, but he is the only other player that comes to mind for me. Plays very fun, creative ideas, never afraid to get into a dubious position and play outside the box, or innovate in the opening.
Normally when Magnus grinds out an endgame against someone we think of it as him torturing the other player, I think on this occasion it was the other way around.
I appreciate your joke. And it would be much funnier in other circumstances. But let you know that currently Ukrainians don't like the stereotype jokes about the russians aimed to them. Thank you for your understanding.
I was thrilled to see this game turn out like this. Tricky endgame is the best possible scenario to watch Magnus and Ivanchuk trade blows. Wonderful display from Ivanchuk to find that complicated defensive resource to hold the draw.
What an astonishing game. My little brain can barely comprehend it. Incredible coverage, as usual, Agadmator. You're quickly climbing the ladder to being my favorite TH-camr :)
Chucky masterful with the mind games. That knight move to 'defend' the fork was genius...seems to have instantly made Magnus dismiss the possibility of another fork.
The quote by Magnus"I dont believe in fortresses" is certainly very logical to be brought up here since Chucky created the most impenetrable knight/rook fortress to guard his king and withstand a brutal queen attacks literally from every angle down to a 123 move!! Just an epic game from both sides
Mr. Agadmator, I want to thank you a lot. I've been fighting monsters in my head, and battled it out with my illnesses, and your videos help me a lot. You don't know the power of your actions and attitude. Also, today I defeated a player using a strategy I saw on one of your videos. It was far from a Tal move, but I enjoyed it. Thanks!
100% agree w/u, but here Magnus wouldve won 9 times out of 10. Pretty much stupid the way magnus didnt play one of the easiest move he has missed. I obviously knew it just after took the pawn, his reaction made even think he missclicked that or he just took the pawn even seeing that fork, like his brain took the pawn but he was planning the fork I said thay because it happens to me, i want to do something and do other thing and i like, "aaaagah f***" hhaa They say wesley, duda, pragg but i will always say, the real Magnus kryptonite is Chucky
Magnus might be the strongest player currently alive due to strong prep and memorization, also thanks to the power of computer analysis, but he doesn't hold a candle to Fischer's brilliance and creativity. Chessmetrics (which is less inflationary than Elo) also puts Fischer's peak at 2895, quite a bit ahead of Magnus's peak FIDE of 2882.
17:40 "I believe Vasyl was enjoying this position very much. If you find a fortress against Magnus, you'll sleep very well tonight, Sir!" 🤧😂🤷 The g4 pawn watching the entire sequence flashing right in front of its eyes be like bruh wtf these 5 clowns doing, dancing left and right till move 100+, me tired already, when can I go home and sleep 💀😭 Jokes aside, chuky just casually let Magnus promote a queen and confidently draw it off using rook and a knight! Wow what a game, I believe it's the most oddly satisfying highest level draw ever!!! It's a win for Ivanchuk for me! And it's rapid, not even classical, to be able to pull this impenetrable fortress against one of the all time's great (well, Chucky himself is one of the all time's great for me 🤷)!!! Rooting for Ivanchuk and Hans here, even though they're probably the underdogs of the tournament 🤧
Of course they were low on time and everything…but I noticed 16:31 Could’ve been a potential Queen sacrifice, with the king and pawn marching forward and no clear way for the white king to stop the push. Would’ve been a brilliant way to grab the win
According to the engine data arriving from a small buzzer that I store with my sporting goods (between my bocce balls and corn hole), e3 is a better move than resigns.
at 17:49 (instead rook to f2) and 17:53 (instead rook to g2) knight to e4 and f5 respectively creates a fork that picks up the queen -more missed opportunities. Ivanchuk could have even won the game. Magnus realized that after both missed opportunities and immediately played Queen to c7. What a lucky draw for him. Chucky had him 2 times in the end. A rook a knight and the king could have easily delivered checkmate to the black king while gobbling up the pawn along the way.
It was indeed the 50 move rule that ended it. Or an incredible coincidence, but move 122 being the 50th move exactly would be crazier than dear Chucky himself
Ivanchuk is like a modern version of Mikhail Tal. When I read in a newspaper in 1990s where he beat Kasparov at Linares tournament, I immediately became a fan of him.
Excellent entertaining game. Could you please add a move counter displayed somewhere? Then we can make comments like “why on move 117 whites did not do…”. By the way, the last 30 moves could make a nice video animation.
im new to chess, but i leant that pawn can only capture a piece that is one square diagonally forward. How did the b4 white pawn get captured by black pawn @3:07 ?
17:47 "So knight to G f*cking G5" - Agad
I heard that too!
Unfortunately Knight is pinned!!!!
Lol he was saying "knight to g5-I mean king g5" without using "I mean" then it just sounded funny coincidentally
Haha.

WAtched the end of this game, brilliant defence by Ivanchuck!
Ivanchuk
Ivanchuck is the type of player that can surprise anyone with his prep and find a difficult to dispute attack in a lot of positions.
And it was in this position that Magnus Carlsen believed in fortresses
🤣

Knight to G-Fucking G5.

Rare to see magnus not convert a winning endgame, chucky still has it!

Clearly Chucky has a sense of humor. It also strikes me that was a gesture of solidarity.

I would have loved to see Magnus play Fischer.

"Completely new game" line is my favourite.
According to the engine data arriving from a small buzzer that I store with my sporting goods (between my bocce balls and corn hole), e3 is a better move than resigns.
I would not have been able to maintain the fortress that long. Especially with the intimidation factor of playing against Magnus.
Magnus: I don't believe in Fortresses!
Hans: Hold my stockfish
Not sure whether this should win the prize for most convoluted castling by hand or most convoluted way of transposing into a modern benoni.
