Yeah its like that for me, i can sit in my hot as balls studio, completely shred the song im playing and then go sit on my drums and experience a full body workout, only to try and record something and im all of a sudden muting strings, dropping sticks, and sucking ass all because i step in front of a microphone or camera

the only way to get good at writing songs is to write songs. you just need to write down whatever garbage you come up with, listen to it, and keep improving. listening to recordings of yourself also makes your practice much more effective.

any song is playable as long as you practice it enough, it depends how you practice it, do it enough times till you remember everything without tabs and ur pretty much done, unless its shredding and you haven't played guitar then see you in 2-3 years lol

I am the kind of guitarist: who sold his guitars. Got stuck at the bar chords. Bought a bass some years later. Built up strength in my hands and improved my sense of rythm. Picked up a guitar found out I could bar chords with ease.
Decided to practice a little more to be worthy of buying a proper guitar and amp. I am now in a happy relationship with an Epi Les Paul Custom Pro and a fender champion 100 amp.

It's funny that you mention the "intro" player. When I was learning to play, there was a website that sold sheet music online, but you could sample the intro to the song before buying the music, being a broke 13 year old, so I just printed off the intros to like 30 songs.

Great topic, as most of us know way too many of them.
Some of these aren't so much types of guitarists as just bad habits they have.
-The lead guitarist that can't play rhythm to save their life.
-The player that won't stay in time, either playing a song increasingly faster, or speeding up or slowing down at different parts in a song with no warning.
-Always tweaking his amp settings while playing a gig.
-NEVER has a pick on them.
-Can't fix their own axe & gear beyond changing strings.
-Uses a 100w amp and a 4x12 cabinet for practice.
-Plays his rack. not his axe.
-Always wants to borrow your guitar because he doesn't want to play out on his own.
-Returns your borrowed axe & gear dirty, or dinged, or broken.
-Has OCD about playing a song EXACTLY like it was recorded.
Here's an idea for a show: Guitar players we like
-Has no idea how good they are.
-Returns a gear just like, or better, than you loaned it to them. "Thanks for loaning me your axe. I put some new strings on it for you."
-"You want to try taking the lead guitar for that song?"

The type I am..
I'm the Rhythm guitarist with zero interest in playing lead. I have had bandmates tell me I need more feel because I play to the click, and very rarely deviate my timing (my bass player loves swing, so I'm learning)
My amp has had the same settings so long that if I turn the knobs it mutes it because of contact corrosion.
Pocket full of picks.. all the time. It's made awkward moments at work when I go to take out my work badge and 3 picks fall out with it.
Practice. That's what my Bandit is for. Easier to move, and it's practice. It doesn't have to sound good, it's about getting it together as a group.
My "rack" (pedalboard) has exactly 2 things on it. I'll add more if The situation calls for it. but no more than required for a performance.
Nothing worse than playing someone else's guitar. I own my "This doesn't travel" guitars and most of them are "It's a road guitar, it's fine"
As for the types we like... I know exactly how good I am... and the answer is not very. at all.
if I do borrow gear, clean and at least make sure it's the same condition, and yes, new strings if I know their string preferences and have time to do a full setup.
and that last one. can I never be lead? the other guitarist can have as much of that spotlight as they want. because I don't lol

heres a tip for you, im an old man , i play piano, i received my performance accreditation at 17 playing bach`s Etude opus 10 csharp, i was so very very nervous before i went on stage before the top 6 maestros of my country., My tutor said this(translated to 2021) "look out there in the auditorium, you already own them, how do i know, because they turned up to hear you play, never be worried even if only 1 sits to listen, never be worried if there is no-one to listen , just play, and as best as you can, that is how to succeed in music" hope that helps. so, get out there, you own them , they are your musical slaves, now show them why :)

4:21 That's me! 20 years now and just starting to learn how to noodle the pentatonic. To be fair, until a couple of years ago it was all about punk rock power chords and mayhem for me. Now I'm in a spot where I suck at both because adulting gets in the way so time is limited. I also have no friends and playing over a loop pedal to practice gets old real fast.

Now I must admit; I’m also guilty of being an acoustic metal player. But have you tried being an electric bard and doing different tunes of fantasy on electric? Speaking from experience, doing The Bard’s Song by Blind Guardian on electric is awesome, as well as some other fantasy-styled tracks are very fun to play.

It started as a joke with a buddy of mine, but we eventually would go into music stores when they had a nice amount of people around and I’d plug in a guitar that I wanted to “try out” and then just play the intro to Slayer raining blood but right when it was about to kick in with the triplets, I’d just slide it down and restart from the intro at least 5-7 times in a row. The people listening with that built up suspense waiting and the confusion that follows is really a fun past time.
I played the pentatonic for years because I played only rock but then blues and jazz came to my life and then Tom Morello and Tim Henson so I'm little bit all this together

It's pretty common, the way to fight this is to get the habit of playing in front of people, start small, eventually you'll get it.
Unplugged metal on acoustic sounds so good. Wish we got to hear more of it from artists.
I use a lot Of Pentatonic major scale because it just sounds so Dang good if you Can Use it On Top of whatever you're playing

gotta say, im the completely self taught guitarist but without the pentatonic scale only. I remember telling myself not to actually learn it, which left to good things and bad things honestly lol! Dimebag darrell is my idol and was back then too so i would learn all of his solos (including the pentatonic stuff) but yeah, thats my sterotype.
