Elizabeth you may know, or not, but Randy was a classical trained guitarist. There are recordings of him playing. Ozzy always had great guitar players even after Randy passed.
The Charismatic Voice, the best version of Mr Crowley is on the Randy Rhoads tribute album, released in 1987. The second solo on that version of the track, is simply other worldly. It's absolutely magic
There's a reason why Randy is so respected even 39 years after his passing... if I remember correctly, he was only 24 when he died. Nobody can imagine how his career would have evolved had he lived on, because he was so ahead of his time.
I think it was Ozzy that said that Randy wanted to quit and go back to being a teacher again. But such a shame, one of the best guitar players there ever was.
Randy was a devout classical guitarist and never stopped taking lessons, even while on tour with Ozzy. Usually he ended up teaching the teacher but it was always a learning experience for him as well. His mastery of mode and meter is unmatched to this day. He was, and always will be, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. RIP Randy Rhoads.
That's true. He was also going to leave Ozzy to further his classical studies, but God had other plans. His classical instrumental "Dee" is named for his mother, Delores. It's a favorite that I enjoy playing
This isn't live in concert but I'll take anything from this period. There are actual live videos of Randy but few and far in between. My buddy and I had tickets to see Ozzy with Randy in 81 at a small one level venue (3500 capacity maybe) and Ozzy cancelled the show. Didn't realize there would never be another chance. Saw Ozzy when they resumed after Randy's tragic accident with Brad Gillis. It was still really good. Also love Rudy Sarzo. Saw him again in '83 with Jake E Lee.
A lot of women seem unimpressed and even bored by guitar solos. But women that generally love and have an ear for great music(and in this case, one that is so musically accomplished ) tend to love guitar solos.
No lord is going to send you anything. You have to go out and find someone. Meet a lot of people and let your interests be known. If she exists, you can find her.
I love that about this video. It's like Ozzy scored a ticket to watch the greatest guitar solo up close, and the price was for him to sing a few verses.
It just tears at my heart to see Randy playing. He was a brilliant guitarist, blending classical guitar and rock guitar, forming these melodic solos that move through the octaves forwarding the song. He was taken from us song young. What would have done if he had lived.
@@RJTheBikeGuy the one solace I find in those that were gone too soon is that even though that's true - they still have that magic from beyond to inspire and touch people's souls. Considering how much Randy DID do, and is STILL managing to do in 2022...yeah it'd be absolutely nutty to think how things would be if he had a living influence over that.
@@darthsabbath57 Thanks....I was never the biggest Sabbath fan back then but did have a couple of albums/8 tracks! We were lucky to have so much KILLER music to listen to as "legendary" albums were released weekly and often times more than 1 at once....the 70's were the golden age of ROCK and the 60's were second Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll 4ever
@@midnittkr as someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s I have to agree. The 60s and 70s were a magical period for rock n roll that I don’t think can ever be replicated. Sabbath, Hendrix, Janis, the early days of punk rock… so much good stuff. It honestly makes me sad that it seems like rock n roll and guitar driven music is… I don’t want to say “dead” but on life support maybe?
Literally brought a tear to my eye to watch her react to Randy and love how she kept replaying the solos. Her emotions hit me in the feels. Don’t even know what it was: sadness that Randy is gone, the beauty of music, seeing someone discover this music for the first time, a combo of all of the above or what
Word the second time I welled up . And the studio version on record is a better solo , if she listened to that . .or of course .. Tribute. Which he didn't even like that show lol ridonk . .hahah
@@MakerBees333 Yes I wish she was my musical instrument, with those expressions of surprise and approval! This footage taped in obscurity prior to a random Canadian show was seemingly lost for decades before surfacing as practically the only live video of Randy performing that exists. That no one could know of the importance at the time. At first seeming plodding on the metronome, the two solos ..... the cameraman must have not known what was coming because he zeroed in on Randy a little slow the first time, but not the second ...... benefit from that tempo's space. Somehow Randy could pull off live versions of studio parts that were multitracked without sounding like anything was missing and even adding those squeals that are even better than hers!
Amen hon, back in the late 70s and early 80s Randy was .... a virtuoso, an artist, among a billion bands and guitarists. Remember when he was in Quiet Riot? :o I miss those times, but God has given me the sight to be appreciative of what i've got now too. :) By the way, you're way cute !
Dear Elizabeth. I'm a 63 yr-old guitarist from Scotland. In 1980 I heard this song in Glasgow at a pub. I was completely gobsmacked with Randy Rhoads. I'd been in an Black Sabbath cover band in the mid seventies throughout the U.K., so I was already an avid fan of Ozzy's. But Randy, He greatly impacted mine spirit and me guitar playing. It brought me to tears to see your (new) reaction to him. Don't have the words to thank you, wee lassie. 🍀🎸🌹🎸🍀
I felt exactly the same way People that know and love the brilliance of Randy are all on the same page The only reason why I am a musician today is because of Randy There's people that get it and people that don't I'm right with you Brother
Shoutout to the fact that this is a live studio or concert performance no auto tune no going over certain parts of the song to perfect it how it comes out is how it will be forever played.
I saw Ozzy with Randy at Music Hall in Cleveland in the Blizzard of Oz tour - I was about 10 rows back from Randy and I will never forget it. I had tickets to Ozzy's Diary of a Madman tour (also in Cleveland) in January of 1982, but a snowstorm coupled with a broken down car forced me to miss it (I still have my untorn ticket stubs). A few months later Randy was dead and I was pretty devastated. Just imagine what great music the world was deprived of when that happened! Randy will always be in my top 5 rock guitar players list.
I am so happy to see people still today discovering the musical genius of Randy Rhoads. He was the #1 influence on me to pick up a guitar in 1983 and I still play his guitar parts to this day. It was such a loss to the music world the day he died. Imagine what he would be doing today if he had not taken that plane ride. Great review as usual. I love to see your responses and analyses of all genres of music. Thank you for the entertainment.
Is there anyone out here who thinks that Elizabeth reactions to music are anything less than endearing and utterly heartwarming? The woman is almost brought to Tears by guitar solos for Christ sakes. I just find the way she immerse herself in these reactions to be completely hypnotizing. It's not often you see someone who is so unashamedly immersed in the listening experience
Thats the reason why she is actually the only reaction channel I regularly watch. You can really see that she just loves and lives music. Thats cool. Maybe, this is something for her, too: th-cam.com/video/H421xeL75NU/w-d-xo.html End of Green, german gothic rock band, the singer has an AMAZING vocal range when playing the songs live. Maybe have a look ;-)
Another thing I love about her is her total comfort in getting goofy on camera! Intelligent, talented, and silly! What a great combination in a woman! Or for that matter, a person in general.
She's also about to burst with her baby so a touch emotional? Your point made though, she IS the best on YT, reacting/analyzing to anything/everything. With her personality bubbling forth, she'd make an 8yr old singing his/her A, B, C's a fun adventure.
As a life-long Randy Rhoads fan, I really enjoy seeing someone so knowledgeable be amazed at his work. It is incredible that Randy was only in his young 20’s during this performance. He was a true legend and one of the best ever! Awesome!
I'm with Spanish Peaches. So jealous. I wasn't quit old enough to go to concerts yet. But my very first concert was Ozzy (Bark at the Moon tour) with Metallica opening. It was just a few months before Cliff Burton died. I was able to see him perform Whiplash. RIP to both. Some of the greatest in their craft.
Just a reminder that this year marks exactly 40 years since Randy's death. The fact that people like me still listen to the music created by a man who died more than a decade before I was born is testament to his evergreen genius.
I still get the same feeling she does every time I hear this song. Been listening to it since it came out. Het head would explode if she'd listen to the Tribute version.
Fun fact, Randy Rhoads mom owned a classical music school. He quickly became a teacher there after basically learning everything there was to learn at the age or 17 or whatever it was. Makes sense that his compositions would grab Elizabeth more than others. He was truly one of the greats. Gone far too soon.
There are two university scholarships for music students awarded in his name at UCLA and California State University, Northridge. I believe his mom used to award them up to her death a few years ago.
Randy Rhoads was definitely one of the top 10 rock guitarists of all times... Right up there with Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck, Iommi, Blackmore, May and SRV (not in that order)... IMO!
Randy is the reason I picked up a guitar in 1980. 42 years later and he remains my favorite guitarist of all time. What a super legend, way ahead of his time.
Thank you for taking notice, and appreciating how talented Randy was. He’s my favorite guitarist of all time, and arguably the best of all time. And not a lot of people I know really even know who he was, or cared to know. Such a shame
There's no doubt that Randy Rhodes brought Ozzy back.... He's said it himself I think in interviews. They were the perfect 'team'/combination. "Amazing" seems to be the only word we have - yet still inadequate.
This woman is so pure, I love her content. My weekly dose of serotonin. Also, Randy Rhodes! What a shame we couldn't of had 20/30 more years of his brilliance.
And the same goes for Cliff Burton and Freddie Mercury. Can you just imagine what brilliant songs with Cliff or Freddie Metallica and Queen could still produce even today? But we've learnt more about Rob Trujillo who's really a good fit in Metallica, he also has a really good technique but I think he is also musically trained, I'm sure about it...
I agree, with both parts of your comment. 1. She has a purity of soul and an excellent talent of her own. Real recognizes real. 2. Randy would have given us so much more. But at the same time I'm extremely happy with what he left us. Truly one of the best.
It's my 5th or 6th rewatch since this was posted, and I'm just as enamored with your response to the solo as the first. Randy's ability to move us is unparalleled. RR Forever!!!
100% Agreed, and also the ending solo on Tonight. For me you can feel the emotion he's putting into both. Personally Diary is the better of the 2 albums. Randy didn't like it because he felt rushed, and it wasn't as polished as he wanted, but for me because of that looseness it has more feeling to it.
tonight, sato, diary of a madman, over the mountain...that album is just too good and Randy is a genius for fitting so much good stuff in two albums released only one year apart
It's just crazy how cleanly Randy plays. All those notes. All that speed and complexity. He just has masterful control over the whole fretboard. An obvious musical genius. So much talent, inherent musical understanding and skill. Incredible!
other players that ozzy had that played this song dont even come close to the way it was SUPPOSED to be played...they tried and ended up tripping all over themselves. The complexity of what Rhoads is doing is jaw dropping. Its almost like hes playing the piano on the fret board...literally punching in the notes...never seen ANY player play like this. The guy was a freak of nature.
I’ve never seen her so floored by guitar work in a song. She actually looked like she was in pain listening to it. Randy played on a whole other level with this song. He dialed it up to 11!
You should've seen her reaction to Dimebag's guitar solo in Cemetary Gates (Pantera). She LOVED it! But then, who wouldn't? I can't imagine anyone with any sense or taste who couldn't appreciate the extreme amount of talent Dime and Randy had. It makes me sick how soon they were taken from us. The world was robbed of their greatness and of even greater things to come from them both.😢
Well said. As a guitar player I think it's neat that a vocal coach would pay attention to the guitar. What I've noticed is that she listens at a different level. She picks up on things and then some.
Since his new doctors took him off the dozens of medications he was on, but weren't needed, after his 4 wheeler accident, he is much easier to understand. A lot of his trademark way of speaking was to being over medicated by bad doctors.
Brits from certain regions often have accents difficult for American ears... Then again, put a Bronx native and say, an East Texan together and communication may prove problematic... S.W.
I am amazed when I watch him play...I know it can't be easy to do that, to play with such emotion and intensity, and yet his face is in a calm serene place. That has to be an amazing feeling, to play at that level with such comfort and belief in your abilities. Then watch the audience reaction to what you are doing with them, gosh.
Watching Elizabeth’s face melt upon hearing RR just takes me back to being a teenager and dropping the needle on “Blizzard of Ozz” for the first time. I’d figured out some guitar stuff by then, and we had Van Halen 1 to chew on, but Randy was simply otherworldly. Still stings that we lost him so shortly thereafter.
It brought a tear to my eye, watching Elizabeth’s reaction to Randy’s first solo. But then again, listening to Randy on the Blizzard & Diary albums always does anyway. And also, I think she feels the pain that we’ve lived with for 40 years. We’ve been cheated out of a wealth of music, with Randy being taken too soon from us. Saying that, he was leaving Ozzy to become a classical guitarist…
Most people have no idea of Randy’s love for perfecting his craft, he would always look up guitar instructors when the band went to a new city and take lessons from them… always focused on his amazing skill 🎸🔥
@@gl3605 he really was. I might even put him above Eddie over all. Ed was more innovative, which is really saying something considering how innovative Randy was, but Randy had the better solos, compositions, and just as good riffs.
I’m 55 years old. I’m Japanese. It reminds me my school days . I was into ozzy’s music such as mr.clory,iI don’t know, crazy train. These were amazing songs that impacted us. He passed away when he was 25 years old. It’s too young to die. His talent must be loved by gods too much . But we can remember him every time we hear these songs. My English is not so good. But I want to say about Randy Rhoads. He is my favorite guitarist.😂
What I love about this is when it basically changes from a vocal analysis to an appreciation of Randy's solos. That look of total awe, the tear to the eye basically sums up the feeling that any guitarist or indeed musician would feel when hearing this legend . He is quoted as being an influence by so many and One can only imagine what he would have achieved had he not been taken so young. R.I.P. Randy Rhoads.
I still can't really listen to it without tearing up. Some of the most beautiful guitar playing of all time underscored by the horrible tragedy that would take place not long after it was recorded. Hearing it brings the magnitude of the loss even more sharply into focus. RIP Randy.
Randy is, still to this day, one of the greatest guitarist of all time. The emotions he could generate from a guitar are borderline unmatched. Especially for his age and the era he was in.
Me three. I heard Randy 23 years ago in HS. Shortly after I bought a RR3 and started writing my own music. Randy opened a while wonderful world of music to me. This song stills gives me chills and tears when I hear and “feel” the music. Hasn’t changed the emotional charge from day one hearing it and from now.
I started listening to Ozzy when I was 11. I started playing guitar when I was 14,... (1984), all because of a kid I met at a group home I lived in in 1981,... Who LOVED Randy Rhoads,... Now at 52, I STILL play and STILL well up with tears from Randy's solos. Even watching THIS video and your AWESOME reactions,... I recently started getting back to my roots, (playing Ozzy/Randy Rhoads) and I notice that NO ONE, NOT ONE GUITARIST I've heard on TH-cam, seems to be able to mimic Randy's playing. (Yes, I'm well aware that he triple tracked his Solos with one left, one right and the main center. It's nearly impossible to play exactly like the recordings,... But dammit, I won't stop playing these songs until I have them down perfectly, or until my fingers fall off!
My favorite Ozzy song ever! Randy's solos on this song bring melancholic tears to my eyes every time, especially watching the live version. So unbelievably good. Great video, thanks you!
Love this because you just see ozzy the whole time in the outro solo in awe over Randy’s playing. He was a huge fan of his own guitarist and it’s so nice to watch
Randy Roads was trained as a classical guitarist before transferring into heavy metal due to his mother’s advice on the emerging metal scene. Coming from such a technical background in his youth just made heavy metal easy for him. Let’s not forget he wrote the song crazy train.
@@AllenLarance If you can get your hands on the first Quiet Riot album released in Japan, you can here the origins of Dee and couple other songs that ended up in Blizzard of Oz.
You wanna hear something CRAZY. You know how he wanted to quit the band. Ozzy said , make a little bread first. Did he possibly live through the accident? Or just fake his death. There are pictures of someone who looks a lot like him. A lot!! But female. There is no bigger fan than me. He's my all time favorite. But it has me wondering. If you saw the pictures I've seen you just might think that this could possibly be true. I'm not meesing with you either.
“Diary of a Madman” and/or “ You can’t kill rock-n-roll” and/or “Tonight” are more examples of less is more in the solos. Randy’s ability to make his solos an actual song within the song is outstanding. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! And thank you for sharing!! Love it!!
Also, Randy was a virtuoso in his own right. I read somewhere, that when they would go on tour, he would seek out guitar teachers on the hopes of just learning something else to put in his tool box. However, he usually ended up teaching these guitar teachers something they didn't know instead. Remarkable musician
Wow, thats so cool! Imagine him goin to those teachers and start to play his technique with his unique tune style and overwhelming sense of rythim and creativity. Teachers be like : \(O o O)/
Ozzy is the king of metal, period. He made the genre and is it's greatest voice. He's also a hell of a guy. I wish he was my friend. Can't say that about many...
The first time I heard this song I got chills all over my body I'm 54 and I still get chills every time. Ozzy Osbourne is a legend. It will be a sad day when he is gone. Nobody has done more for metal than he has. The Godfather of metal.
Your ability to not only analyze music, but peoples emotional intent is nothing less than extraordinary. I’ve watched so many of your videos, and you always seem to nail it.
A legendary live performance! Look how genuinely happy Ozzy is! When he is glancing at the band and smiling, Ozzy is as amazed as we are at the sound that is coming out of his band. He was never the same after Rhandy passed.
Diary of a Madman I would recommend as your next Ozzy/Randy rabbit hole. The rhythm that Randy Rhodes composed for this has unequal measures with syncopations. It is truly something that people should experience with Randy's greatness. I just ran across your channel, I've been an Ozzy fan for over 40 years. So it is great to see new fans appreciate what i have enjoyed since childhood.
she didnt. The first time she stopped it the second it started- before she'd have even known one was coming. the next time she stopped it the second it finished.
Ozzy may not be even close to technically the best singer but he is still today absolutely and completely unique, there is no mistaking him and with how many people in this world that sing, that's an absolute master feat. He's an *icon* and even bcs of so many more reasons he's a *Unique Icon*
Randy was under appreciated. Those of us that were fans back then knew how amazing he was. I have played guitar for 40 years and the older I get the more amazing he becomes to me.
While I would hate to pick and choose any of Randy's work, I would have to go with Revelation Mother Earth. The fluidity of his playing is unmatchable. I do hold Diary as one of my favorites though, it was one of the firsts I learned back then.
Yea, unlikely to find a good quality live video with Randy? I agree with you just doing the studio version. At least then you get to hear all the 'extra's in the studio version that you would miss in the live version.
@@Tharanicus I don’t think Randy ever played Diary live. Most of the songs on the diary album were written in the studio under pressure, so they only played a few of them live (since they didn’t know them well)
You give such a emotional and colorful description of what you’re interpreting that it blows away most everyone else that does these type of videos. Your knowledge of music and vocal interpretation is infectious and in lightened. I really admire your ability to tell the beauty of the parts of music and show the respect for the talent you are witnessing. You are a beautiful librarian of music!
I started to tear up watching you react to the solo, even though I've seen the video at least 50 times. And wore that album out ever since I was 11 years old. I'm over 50 now and still listen to it occasionally. Thank you.
We are lucky to have this footage. Almost nothing survives from this period. And the performance is absolutely unreal, perfect in its flaws and power, all through Marshal amps and talent.
Randy Rhodes was a magical soul that had a natural ability with music to not only grab your attention but also feel the magic which is the goal of all artists but few have it on his level. When Randy passed a huge part of Ozzie died with him, not only was he a driving force but a close friend. Ozzie's voice and Randy's music was and still iconic.
Elizabeth emotes so many things through her face and, then trying to explain what Randy did, is just, is just what makes the Charismatic Voice so enjoyable. One of the few guitarists I've seen invoke this kind of reaction.
Reminds of the scene in second Matrix film where the Merovingian plants a "seed" in a woman across the restaurant from him and then watches it excite her.
Ozzy Osbourne is just in awe as he stares at Randy...looks back at Tommy....and then back at Randy as the solo culminates....Ozzy scratches his head blown away while Randy shreds....is just CLASSIC !!
I bought a VCR tape if this performance yearrrs ago and noticed the same thing. It was moment when Ozzy realized, wow this is really happening. NOW, if only him and Sharon had hired a different bus driver besides loser Andrew Aycock. History would have been ultimately different
When you got into the solo, it took me back to the first hearing Randy Rhodes as a teenager at that time and hearing him like I did that first time. I totally forgotten how much it initially moved me and how to listen again.
As a young teenager, I was devastated by the loss of Randy Rhoads. He had a tremendous influence on guitarists of my generation and beyond. Kids I talk to today still refer to his immense influence. A true guitar god.
One of the things I like about songs recorded live, is getting to see the members' expressions. They are clearly having a blast, and the most amusing part to me, was Ozzy's smile, as he watched the guys do what they loved to do. Loved your reaction! Peace!
One of my Brothers best friends had been a student of Randy's and he unfortunately just passed away not too long ago. He would talk to me about Randy and he had so much joy to talk about the experience each time.
His technical skill is genius. But...there are many guitarists over the years displaying that level of virtuosity. However, Randy was literally in a class by himself in his phrasing and composition which is staggeringly complex. That ultimately bought him the ticket into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame under the title "Musical Excellence." That aspect of his playing has never been duplicated and likely never will. He was just masterful in every regard. Miss him immensely.
Agreed - many many guitar players out there, especially in present day, that are at that level and even beyond. However. Nobody plays like Randy, and nobody ever will. His playing is timeless, and will always be considered top-end in every regard. If you watch him play his solos live, like crazy train in the after hours show, he just THROWS himself into it. His guitar literally becomes an extension of his persona. It's awesome, and second to none.
Get outta your mom's basement already... You're 50 years old!! You ever heard of John McLaughlin, AL DiMeola, or Guthrie Govan? Randy couldn't pick the corn out of their shit!
The facial expression you made after hearing Rhoads' solo...that is the EXACT same expression that everyone makes when they hear it for the first time. Welcome to the club :)
There is a reason ozzy is watching Randy there at the end and has that huge smile on his face. Randy just blows that solo outta the water and ozzy knows he just witnessed history being made. He just watched the greatest guitarists of all time deliver a masterpiece! Hats off to the rest of the band. But we came here to see Randy!
Randy sounds like an angel telling a message: "feel alive! enjoy life!". I remember the first time I listened to him and my life changed since. It is kind of therapeutic to hear his solos.
Randy Rhoads was the king of melodic guitar solos. There are lots of great guitarists but most solos don't stick in your head afterwards. Randy had that magic element to his playing. He understood melody and he incorporated it very, very tastefully.
Yeah, I’ve seen some interviews with Randy were he says he looked up musicians in every town he played in to teach him their skills… he was truly humble to his own skills, and to me that’s what made him one of the best musicians I’ve ever heard… sadly, despite his low age :/
Totally agree, if people have your solo in their heads and could sing-along, then you've got it! You directly recognise one of Randy's solos which is the differentiation to many other guitarists who are fast and have great skills like Steve Vai.
After listening to this song for over 40 years, I cannot tell you what a treat it is to see you experiencing it for the first time. Your expertise in music analysis is also allowing me to appreciate this recording in a whole new way, letting me hear elements of the song that I had never noticed before. Thank you!

I think it was Ozzy that said that Randy wanted to quit and go back to being a teacher again. But such a shame, one of the best guitar players there ever was.

That's true. He was also going to leave Ozzy to further his classical studies, but God had other plans. His classical instrumental "Dee" is named for his mother, Delores. It's a favorite that I enjoy playing
You'll notice, in many live performances, the childlike wonder and enthusiasm in Ozzy's face whenever he watches Randy play.
Yeah. Ozzy knew he was going to be just fine going Solo at that moment.
He was happy to steal Randy from Quiet Riot.
What's the alternative?
Because Randy was the best. RIP Randy. We love you ❤

Everytime I hear both solos in this song, tears fill my eyes. Randy is the greatest of all times.
Randy who? Tony Iommi played lead guitar
Randy Rhodes?
@@midnittkr Yeah, this is from Ozzy's early solo career after he left Sabbath and hooked up with Randy Rhodes.
Tribute. Which he didn't even like that show lol ridonk . .hahah
It was the clearest display of audiophila I have ever seen… fun to watch but almost X-rated at the same time. 😊
Amen
Came here just to say just that, exactly. I think I fell in love with her just a bit!
The excitement awe and joy coming over your face as you watch Randy's solo is a lovely thing to behold
"Woh, I need to go back and hear that solo again" Yeah, we've all been saying that about this song since 1980. RIP Randy.
One of the best short solos of all time!!!!
Yes! That ascending flurry in the "Believer" solo as an example.... I have to replay it every time it comes on.
Yes ❤RIP Randy
we used to play his killer outro solos absolutely as loud as possible to soak them in, he could jam effortlessly and endlessly
I love watching younger generations be blown away by our old folks music. Randy Rhodes was 1 of the most reveered guitarists of our times.

Randy Rhoads was the only revered guitar player of our time oh ya and Stevie Ray
Her face/reaction is priceless! Much respect to you sir, hailing from the land of my ancestors!
Being in a Sabbath cover band already in the 70s, that's bloody awesome. Huge respect, sir.

Yes Randy Rhodes a awesome guitar player, I remember in 1981, when I was 15,May he RIP💐
He was one with his guitar
His mother said he would play the same thing over and over trying to put as much feeling into it as possible
Randy makes me cry every single time I see or listen to him with Ozzy. Such a gifted musician…
@@ericchapman1221 I never had the change to see him live… and indeed, he would have made so much more astonishing music…🥲
Ozzy still struggles with it. Like bad, from what I hear.
Me too, notes flying like beautiful butterflies right?
Thats cool.
Maybe, this is something for her, too: th-cam.com/video/H421xeL75NU/w-d-xo.html
End of Green, german gothic rock band, the singer has an AMAZING vocal range when playing the songs live. Maybe have a look ;-)
I feel that way about Randy too, it's very relatable.
I totally agree, she's definitely into what she's doing and is informative and just a fresh breath of musical wisdom.
As a life-long Randy Rhoads fan, I really enjoy seeing someone so knowledgeable be amazed at his work. It is incredible that Randy was only in his young 20’s during this performance. He was a true legend and one of the best ever! Awesome!
I consider myself so fortunate to have seen Randy play live twice. Pure guitar genius!
Properly jealous of that..however i was lucky enough to see Bon just eight weeks before he died...so i was fortunate too.
Nothing I can do...jelous!

Well don't tease us! How was the show?
I know, right? I still get chills when I hear those guitar moments and I've been listening to this song for almost 40 years
Exactly!!! Me to my friend. I still love it. 🇺🇸🎵🎸🎵🎸🇺🇸
Randy is the GOAT. God bless him. His playing still brings me to tears of joy.
Same here! I agree with the others saying the Tribute live version takes it to another level too!
Thanks For Info... Love him More
There are two university scholarships for music students awarded in his name at UCLA and California State University, Northridge. I believe his mom used to award them up to her death a few years ago.
Randy was 24 in this video I think. He died the following year at age 25.
Randy Rhoads was definitely one of the top 10 rock guitarists of all times... Right up there with Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Beck, Iommi, Blackmore, May and SRV (not in that order)... IMO!
Randy Died too young
i am not crying your crying --- --- We miss you Randy-- Ozzy truly loved him
If that was the case the Rhoads family wouldn’t have had to sue Ozzy over unpaid royalties a few years ago.
RIP Randy. Even after all these years. Still bringing joy to generations.
Randy was a god. That being said, Zakk Wylde is no slouch with the axe either
one of the biggest "what ifs" in guitar history
One of my biggest “what ifs” in music: What if Randy and Cliff had both lived longer and ended up in a band together?
Randy is the reason I picked up a guitar in 1980. 42 years later and he remains my favorite guitarist of all time. What a super legend, way ahead of his time.
all time A leaguer
Yes Randy Rhodes a awesome guitar player and Ozzy Osbourne is awesome singer, I remember in 1981, when I was 15😊
Love how passionate she gets describing Randy’s solo.
If she likes this so much, she should check out suicide solution live 1981. If she would really like to see what randy was capable of
At 11:57 kinda...
Or his solo on Paranoid on the Tribute album. Holy shit.
Album. Version is much better. This version is slowed down
Just seeing Elizabeth react to the genius of Randy Rhoads makes this worth watching. He was that good.
"Randy Rhoads makes me stumble over my words in excitement" possibly one of the best descriptions of Randy's musical genius!
The more I hear Randy’s solos, the more I want to cry.
For real
What I like best with this video is how even Ozzy is astonished and looks at Randy as if he tries to remember what planet he found him on.
Thank you for taking notice, and appreciating how talented Randy was. He’s my favorite guitarist of all time, and arguably the best of all time. And not a lot of people I know really even know who he was, or cared to know. Such a shame
Randy was such a great musician, he arguably brought Ozzy back from the brink... They were a truly amazing force when brought together.
There's no doubt that Randy Rhodes brought Ozzy back.... He's said it himself I think in interviews. They were the perfect 'team'/combination. "Amazing" seems to be the only word we have - yet still inadequate.
Completely agree.
My dose too!
He got caught up in black magic
I agree, with both parts of your comment.
1. She has a purity of soul and an excellent talent of her own. Real recognizes real.
2. Randy would have given us so much more. But at the same time I'm extremely happy with what he left us. Truly one of the best.

Diary of a Madman is their magnum opus. Thank you, Elizabeth, for all you do, and congrats to you, your husband, and the new addition to your family 🙂
Yes diary of a mad man I would love to see you on here one of the most awesome songs that he has done and definitely one of the best albums also
Absolutely! Diary of a Madman is my favorite Ozzy song! EPIC!!!!!
It's my 5th or 6th rewatch since this was posted, and I'm just as enamored with your response to the solo as the first. Randy's ability to move us is unparalleled. RR Forever!!!
The only Guitarist that can bring me to tears even 41 years after first hearing him play the Incredible Phenomenal Randy Rhoads!

We had Randy....They have Justin. Thats why young peoples musical culture is what it is.....I may be old but I was there, no regrets.
Sad, actually, only one, I am glad I am not you
Randy’s solo on Diary of a Madman is one of the best ever written. Odd time signature and odd chords, yet it fits perfectly. A true virtuoso.
My favorite album
All time favorite Ozzy song and one of my all time favorite songs.
tonight, sato, diary of a madman, over the mountain...that album is just too good and Randy is a genius for fitting so much good stuff in two albums released only one year apart
@Tessmage Tessera I STILL do it to this day, in fact I'll probably listen to it now. 😁 That ending solo will still bring a tear to my eye sometimes.
It's just crazy how cleanly Randy plays. All those notes. All that speed and complexity. He just has masterful control over the whole fretboard. An obvious musical genius. So much talent, inherent musical understanding and skill. Incredible!
I saw him shortly before his death and he was absolutely amazing. 🎸🥰
Listen to the isolated track, its a little sloppy.
One person doesn't carry the band.
other players that ozzy had that played this song dont even come close to the way it was SUPPOSED to be played...they tried and ended up tripping all over themselves. The complexity of what Rhoads is doing is jaw dropping. Its almost like hes playing the piano on the fret board...literally punching in the notes...never seen ANY player play like this. The guy was a freak of nature.
Watching Elizabeth go through the same reaction we all have when hearing Randy is a beautiful thing ❤
She seems even more excited, maybe I am burned out after decades.
I’ve never seen her so floored by guitar work in a song. She actually looked like she was in pain listening to it. Randy played on a whole other level with this song. He dialed it up to 11!
I agree! Wonder what she would react like when she hears Jimi Hendix at Woodstock!!!
That's the look of euphoria.
I love your reaction of hearing the music for first time priceless
You should've seen her reaction to Dimebag's guitar solo in Cemetary Gates (Pantera). She LOVED it! But then, who wouldn't? I can't imagine anyone with any sense or taste who couldn't appreciate the extreme amount of talent Dime and Randy had. It makes me sick how soon they were taken from us. The world was robbed of their greatness and of even greater things to come from them both.😢
Well said. As a guitar player I think it's neat that a vocal coach would pay attention to the guitar. What I've noticed is that she listens at a different level. She picks up on things and then some.
Ozzy, you can’t understand a word he says, yet we we all can understand him perfectly when he sings!

Since his new doctors took him off the dozens of medications he was on, but weren't needed, after his 4 wheeler accident, he is much easier to understand. A lot of his trademark way of speaking was to being over medicated by bad doctors.

God bless Randy. He's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. Still playing 15 years and going. R.I.P. brother. Forever in our hearts!!!
I wish I had learned to play after heating heavy metal the first time in 84. Don't think fingers would agree with the movements these days.
Right with you Clay 🙏🏻
Exactly. Same here! Long live Randy. Long live Ozzy!
Yep... I remember both VH and Blizzard of Oz causing me to practice 8hrs/day for many years during the 80's
I think there’s a video out there of Ozzy hearing an isolated RR recording. Was pretty cool and touching.
Most people have no idea of Randy’s love for perfecting his craft, he would always look up guitar instructors when the band went to a new city and take lessons from them… always focused on his amazing skill 🎸🔥
Half the time he ended up giving the teacher a lesson. what a nice guy and a natural teacher.

There will never be another Randy Rhoads and certainly never be another Ozzy Osbourne .
“Diary of a Madman” and/or “ You can’t kill rock-n-roll” and/or “Tonight” are more examples of less is more in the solos. Randy’s ability to make his solos an actual song within the song is outstanding.

And thank you for sharing!! Love it!!
I was searching for a "Tonight" mention, mate! You have a such great taste for music. 👏🏻👍
I'd def go with Diary!
"Diary", yes! And perhaps Revelation: Mother Earth for its early "epicness".
Diary of a madman! Yes!
Elizabeth will be crying if she hear diary of madman 🤣🤣🤣
I know this is a vocal analysis, however, her reaction to Randy’s solo says it all
"Randy's playing is like cresting multiple waves." That's the best description I've ever heard, and it was so spontaneous, so out of the blue.
And that, Elizabeth, is why us fans of Randy still miss him to this day. Welcome to the fan club.
Part of being great is knowing there is still always things to be learned

It's just rock - n - don't over think it, yes it's music 🎶 you never heard, Ozzie, and Randy, gave people goose flesh, that's what makes it so cool
Never. Never. Never Ever stop a guitar solo. Especially like this one
Agreed - though if Elizabeth didn't the ads would.
Always loved Randy's Goodbye To Romance solo, especially the guitar and vocal only mix they released a few years back...never gets old.
The song “Diary of a Madman” is Randy’s masterpiece.
Unfortunately, I don’t think you will find live video of it though, just studio recording.

We are lucky to have this footage. Almost nothing survives from this period. And the performance is absolutely unreal, perfect in its flaws and power, all through Marshal amps and talent.
You have permanently gained a forever metal head card due to your appreciation of the late St. Rhodes
A dog could fart on a ukulele and she would make the same faces. It's literally every single video.
Reminds of the scene in second Matrix film where the Merovingian plants a "seed" in a woman across the restaurant from him and then watches it excite her.
Mad respect for you my dear. I absolutely delight in your love of music and your musical insight.
Yes, Randy was a GOD of the neo classical... His solos with Ozzy are masterpieces
He mastered Classical, Blues, and Metal all at the age of 25.
Peace!
Randy's dad taught me how to play drums. He was an incredible guy in his own right.
That's pretty dam cool 🤘🏻🍻
One of my Brothers best friends had been a student of Randy's and he unfortunately just passed away not too long ago. He would talk to me about Randy and he had so much joy to talk about the experience each time.
To me.....this is the absolute best Ozzy/Randy thing there is available. Randy just doesn't stop.
I've been listening to this record since the mid 80's and still feel the same reaction every time I hear the man play. Untouchable ❤
At only 24 years old. He would have evolved into a guitar god
@P D the “what if” Randy were still alive is so intriguing…
Agreed - many many guitar players out there, especially in present day, that are at that level and even beyond. However. Nobody plays like Randy, and nobody ever will. His playing is timeless, and will always be considered top-end in every regard. If you watch him play his solos live, like crazy train in the after hours show, he just THROWS himself into it. His guitar literally becomes an extension of his persona. It's awesome, and second to none.
Every year seems like musicians keep evolving in their technique or virtuosity, But many arent well known
Get outta your mom's basement already... You're 50 years old!! You ever heard of John McLaughlin, AL DiMeola, or Guthrie Govan? Randy couldn't pick the corn out of their shit!
Your reaction to hearing Randy's solo was spot on how most of us felt the first time hearing Randy's fantastic classical influenced playing!
The facial expression you made after hearing Rhoads' solo...that is the EXACT same expression that everyone makes when they hear it for the first time. Welcome to the club :)
I make that same face after the million time of hearing that solo..God bless you Randy...your music will always live on.
Agreed, it’s everyone’s reaction
You finally got to hear the greatness of Randy Rhodes. Probably the best guitarist ever.
Definitely the best Guitarist To this day!! 07-22-24!! By far the best!!!
After listening to this song for over 40 years, I cannot tell you what a treat it is to see you experiencing it for the first time. Your expertise in music analysis is also allowing me to appreciate this recording in a whole new way, letting me hear elements of the song that I had never noticed before. Thank you!
