On a side note since I grew up in the 80's Don Everly of the Everly Brothers it was his daughter that the song : Sweet Child Of Mine By Guns and Roses was written about. Axel Rose was dating Don Everly's daughter at the time !
The Everly Brothers were, and still are, the gold standard of duets. There simply has never been a duo like them. They had an endless string of hits in the late 50s and early 60s, and every one was a great song and a big hit.
❤ them. They were the best at what they did. Such great harmony. My favorite was Phil (on the right) with the higher pitched voice. May he RIParadise. Thanks for posting. Try listening to their songs, "Let It Be Me", "Bird Dog" and "Crying In The Rain" I think you will enjoy them.
This was a great one! Please react to Sam Cooke's You Send Me. Sam was a black crooner in the 50/60's. Considered to be a pioneer and one of the most influential soul artists of all time, Cooke is commonly referred to as the "King of Soul" for his distinctive vocals, notable contributions to the genre, and high significance in popular music. Cooke released a string of hit songs, including "You Send Me", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "Cupid", "Wonderful World", "Chain Gang", "Twistin' the Night Away", "Bring It On Home to Me", and "Good Times". During his eight-year career, Cooke released 29 singles that charted in the Top 40 of the Billboard Pop Singles chart, as well as 20 singles in the Top Ten of Billboard's Black Singles chart.
I do not think you can fault their music 50s 60s ,what ever they done , I absolutely adored them ,just to have them times again to feel those feelings wow .
It's pronounced with a soft e, like in the word "ever". This is actually 50s, then into the 60s. Don (the one on camera right) and Phil Everly were the sons of Ike Everly, who was a popular country singer/guitarist and radio personality in the 1940s, and the boys began singing professionally on Ike's show when they were pre-teens, and had been cultivating their harmonies since they were very little. These guys are examples of early rock royalty...HUGE stars in their day. Although they had several falling-outs over the years, they would always get back together and continued performing together until Phil passed away in 2014. There are plenty of examples of their studio work right here on TH-cam. Just do a search and listen, because their harmonies are amazing. I would place the Everlys, The Righteous Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel and Jan & Dean on the top of the mountain for rock duos. And it's interesting you mentioned the Beach Boys, because Brian Wilson does consider the Everlys to be one of his musical influences, as does Barry Gibb.
Awesome bio. I heard this a lot when I was like in the 70's my family has personal feelings as married into our family. Very musical family . We keep the music going through generations.
This is from a time of NO autotune or dubbing, when music was real, from raw talent, and lyrics you could hear & understand clearly. You made it big on your talent alone ! Come back 50's & 60's !!!!
The Beatles said that one of the bands that heavily influenced them were the Everly Brothers... and you can tell. The Everly Brothers are regarded as one of the best duos of all time. They were incredibly in tune with each other and sounded fantastic. Btw, it's pronounced Ever-ly. I love this era too. There's an innocence, gentleness, and purity to alot of it. Today's music sounds extremely aggressive, angry, and showy by comparison.
I even think that at one point the Beatles in a very early days when they were just starting out individually maybe John had a group and they call them selves new Everly Brothers?
@@ls-kk4pq In a version of "Two of Us", you can hear one of them say "Take it Phil" during the recording. It's a hard to find version but was on one of the Anthologies.
Another thing that makes that performance particularly emotional is that Buddy Holly passed away the previous year in 1959 and their backing band is Buddy's band " The Crickets " with Joe B. Mauldin on bass, Jerry Ivan Allison on drums and Sonny Curtis on Lead Guitar.
As as child when I couldn't sleep or had a nightmare, my mother would sing Dream, and Paul Anka's "Put your head on my shoulder." while rocking me in the rocking chair in my room. I will always have an affinity for their music as it is woven into the fabric of my childhood.
You can't beat siblings with great voices. If the Everly Bros. come on the radio when I'm driving, I pull over, because I have to close my eyes to listen to them. Have to.
It was a matter of pride, art, even craftsmanship to form a sound that was yours and no one else's. That's why iconic groups are recognizable almost immediately. There was no autotune, you didnt have to be hot or sexy, no algorithms calculating the next hit, just talent and love of music.
Late 1950's and early '60's was my coming of age period - a calm before the storm (just before the British invasion, the civil rights protests, the Vietnam war, the hippie generation and anti-war movement turned the world upside down). 2020 is beginning to get that feel - but without all the great music that also exploded back then.
Everything you stated about the music of the 60's is absolutely true...UNPARALLELED by the music of today...Pure talent and beautiful. Happy you are enjoying it...
Cathy’s Clown was one of my favorite songs growing up in the 80’s. I listened to all of my dads old and brand new records. Still love it to this day at 37 years old. The 50s music is being lost.
Love the Everly Brothers!!! Beautiful harmony! Love watching your reaction to the music I was raise on. My two older sister had me doing the bop( dance) @ the age of five!🤗

That's why some of the oldest songs you've been listening to are under 5 minutes long!
They were a great duo. I really like your variety of music styles and bands. A very eclectic choice. It also helps that you're choosing some of my favorites.
Omgosh this brings back memories of my dad playing guitar while my older sisters sang All I Have to Do Is Dream! They sang this song so much I prefer their harmonies to the Everly Brothers. They did many songs too like Catheys Clown but Dream was their favorite & they did an excellent job with it. I so miss those days.
It sounds like they are using special echo machines or some sort of gadget to make their voices sound better but the fact that this is their actual voices is amazing, love this

A little bit of rock history. The backing band was Buddy Holly's Crickets. ( Buddy died in 59.) Also, Don Everly on the right of the screen is the father of Erin Evelry, Axl Rose's ex-wife and the inspiration for Sweet Child O' Mine ( she was in the video) and Estranged.

These songs mean so much to me. My aunt married Don and Phil's first cousin. And my mamaw would join their dates back in the days before she married my papaw. We are all from the same hometown where everybody knows everybody and everybody loves the Everly Brothers. Hello from KY where another fameous musician/songwriter/singer is from. They actually say that with the way they sing together it actually sounds like 3 people singing. Very good friends with Buddy Holly and after he died the crickets played backing music for them.
My Dad introduced me to the Everly Bros to me for which I am forever grateful!! There's something especially enchanting about the tonal harmonies siblings create - these guys, the Bee Gees, Clannad, and more.
My friend and I used to sing these songs in my bedroom after school and our voices naturally did the harmonies, great times, full skirts with lots of stiff net petticoats and wide elastic belts to make a tiny waist, girls looked so pretty back then!
With Don Everly's recent passing at the age of 84, both Everly Brother's have now passed on. But they sure left us some great music. Thanks for helping keep that great music alive and introducing it to new audiences.
Show many groups after the Everly Brothers copy their sound copy their harmonies including the Beatles. Unbelievable duo and unmatched in harmonies! Thanks for this reaction!
JayveeTV , you said "All I Have to Do Is Dream" is catchy. That's the truth! I loved it so much on the radio and on my sister's record player that I had quickly memorized it when I was around five or six years old!
