No I on the Billboard Top 100 , for 4 weeks, no I country charts , no 1 in the Uk . 6 weeks. They had lots of great hit songs , Cathy’s clown, till I kissed you, Bird Dog , when will I be loved , wake up little Suzy , and a dozen others . They were the best harmony singers ever, but as you mentioned being brothers they didn’t always get along. There live concerts were always fantastic. Very lively.
The Everly Bros. were a HUGE influence on the development of rock & roll & pop. Their harmonies were astonishing. Their parents were professional singers and the boys were part of the act, they were singing together from a very young age. All I have to do is Dream was a HUGE HIT. Later on they did have a major disagreement and broke up for quite awhile. But in later years they re-united.
They were huge. Their ability to harmonize with precision like that was emulated by many rock bands (the ones that had more than one singer). Loved 'em.
The Everleys were a big influence on Simon and Garfunkel who covered several Everley Brothers songs. You would love Simon and Garfunkel, listen to “Bridge over troubled water” - it’s just something else!
The voices of angels, so amazing, so happy that I could see them live. Phil and Don are iconic, after a successful career in each other's pockets they broke up for a bit, but they reconciled and had a huge round the world tour together, they even had a hit single written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles, the Everly brothers influenced all of rock and roll, they were the first group to be entered into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
The Everly Brothers were before my time, but I know their songs. They had such beautiful harmonies. I feel privileged being on your music education journey with you.
I'm 74 and I had a sister 8 years older so this was the 50's - they were very good and the Bee Gees - in the late 50's practiced their harmonies to the Everly Brothers
Please do yourself a favor and checkout Cathy's Clown, Wake Up Little Susie, Bye Bye Love, Bird Dog & When Will I Be Loved. You will NOT be disappointed.
Thank you for this unique reaction and this beautiful throwback. Some of us grew up loving their music. These guys were the personification of harmonizing.
The Everlys were performing at Knott's Berry Farm in 1973, in what was billed as their final performance. During the show itself, Phil ended up smashing his guitar and walking off stage, leaving Don to finish the show without him. They would not perform together again for ten more years. They held a reunion concert at London's Royal Albert Hall on September 23, 1983, kicking off a world tour. I was lucky enough to get to see them a couple of times in Seattle in 1984, and they sounded fantastic.
Gee whiz is like oh gosh or oh dear. Slow dancing at a sock hop in the school gym. Those were fun times. The Everly Brothers were very popular and had some of the best songs.
Say Hey Jay, I was watching this broadcast when I was a kid and these guys sounded so good that they inspired me to spend my life making music. They were a major influence on The Beatles and many other bands of the day. They have numerous hits worth checking out. Loved your reaction to this Everlys classic song.
Let it Be Me is their most heartfelt love song you will ever hear. They performed it in 1980s at Albert Hall. It is too bad they had a falling out but later reunited later on.
Hi JayFlex! The Bee Gees acknowledge the Everly Brothers as an early influence for them. Back in the day, many singing acts were far less animated than Elvis or Chuck Berry. BTW this Everly Brothers song is currently in a CarGurus commercial in the US. Thanks for your reaction!
The Everly Brothers were more reminiscent of how performers acted in the 50's. That's why Elvis and the others you mentioned caused such a shockwave. 😂 I can name a few sibling groups in the 60's and 70's that apparently got along well. The Everly Brothers, Jackson 5, Bee Gees, The Osmonds, Heart.
The Everlys' harmonies are exceptional and hugely influential. Simon and Garfunkel in particular were very influenced by them, but the harmonies of The Beatles and The Beach Boys were also the result of listening to the Everlys. Don and Phil Everly were pretty near the first rock band to have any harmonies at all (themselves influenced by country groups like The Louvin Brothers), and any rock band ever since with harmony vocals owes a lot to them. And no, they didn't get on well! "Wake Up Little Susie" next? 💚
💚 Check out "Wake Up Little Susie" or "Poor Jenny" or ... there's so many!! Then try Ricky Nelson "It's Late" or ... there's so many!! These artists reflected young teenage, white America (or the idealised version of it)
I love this ! but I would love to see you do some reactions to Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits, 70's Elton John songs, maybe even some 3 dog night, Chicago,......But the originals and not like the current remakes of their old songs.
Gee whiz was a slang expression back in the day. You could say golly, or darn it stuff like that. Phil and Don did get along very well, no sibling rivalry.
"Gee Whiz" is a soft expletive that is acceptable in society, even from children. "Gee" is an alliterative euphemism for Jesus. I suppose English equivalents might be "good heavens" or "goodness gracious". Both "Crikey" and "Struth" are harsher than "Gee Whiz".
Thank you for reacting to Don and Phil Everly, the Everly brothers. You would not believe how famous these guys were back in the late 1950s and in the 1960s. They scored hit after hit on both sides of the Atlantic and greatly influenced other artists who came after them, including the folk-rock legends Simon and Garfunkel. The latter duo actually performed with Don and Phil years later. The matter of whether the two brothers actually got on is perhaps a sore point for many Everly Brothers fans, because as you suggested tensions would eventually creep into the relationships between Don and Phil. They had been performing together as a duo since their early childhood success in the 1950s and this perhaps stifled each brother's sense of individuality. I have heard it said that differences between the two came to a head in the late 1960s when one of the brothers just walked of stage during a live performance and the two never spoke again for many years. Happily, years later Don and Phil did get back together again and performed live and toured again as if nothing ever happened. They were older certainly but the magic was still there. Sadly both are no longer with us but their performances and recordings remain to remind us just how wonderful Don and Phil were.
Unchanged melody by them. There are few years older and they're actually on the talk show while they used to call them family variety shows.. Please make sure that it's the Andy Williams show and you need to play The Intro. Where they talk about the song I think you will find it funny. Elvis came on the scene and through music for a loop. The kids of the day which would be my mother's group of youth. Elvis Went on the elid Sullivan show. And they thought who's wav. Dancing was sovogirl and so suggestive that they couldn't film him from the waist down, no joke..
Every Brothers was popular when I was a kid. Then they disappeared. Apparently they had an argument and didn't speak for decades? They did settle whatever split them but their partnership didn't last that long when one passed away.
They didn't disappear, but they did have an argument and broke up, but in later years they reconciled and toured together, they even had a hit single in the 90s written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles, the Everly brothers influenced all of rock and roll, they were the first group to be entered into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
They broke up in 1973, did not speak to each other until their father died in 1975. After that they did begin speaking on the phone occasionally. In 1983 they reunited and from that point on they continued to record & tour until Phil's health detoriated. During the 10 years of separation both had moderate solo success. I believe their last appearance together was in either 2005 or 2007. Sadly Phil & his Angelic voice left us in 2014 & Don in 2021. At the time of Don's death their Mother, Margaret, was still alive at the age of 102.
@@l.l4456 My late husband Stan was working at the hotel that the Everly Brothers stayed at when they played in Bakersfield in 1983. My husband was the concierge (and also a musician), and spent a lot of time with the Everlys' manager and the band (he got to jam with them, he walked on air for a week!). The Everly Brothers couldn't stand each other! They reserved an entire floor of the hotel and were quite adamant about having their rooms on opposite ends of the floor. They got along fine with everybody else but not each other. Phil hung out with the band and crew more but Don kept more to himself. Their organization was top class though! The manager gave tickets to any hotel workers who wanted them and their families too! Of course we went and took our daughter who knew all of their songs because we taught them to her. You never would have known that they hated each other on stage. Total pros, both of them!
They are from a musical family steeped in mountain folk music that was inspired by the British Isles music of the early immigrants to the region. They have one album where they sing those old songs. Early rock/pop was influenced by folk, blues, jazz. These same roots also became bluegrass and country music.
The Everlys are great but I am still waiting for one person reacting to something say they didn't like it. No one likes every song they hear so I'm waiting for someone to say that song sucks!
I listened to all The Everly Brothers songs as a kid. Wake up Little Suzie, Bird Dog, Cathy's Clown, Bye Bye Love etc.
Absolutely impeccable harmony. Loved them all my childhood!
G-WHIZ was a common expression similar to the expression OH BOY or WOW to show surprise or enthusiasm.
They were a big influence on the Beatles. Loved the Everly Brothers, the music of my youth. Thank you for this. 👏👏🥰

Gee Whiz is like an 'oh gosh', 'Dear me', a fluffy 'hot damn'. Journey's 'Faithfully' is one of the best Rock ballads.
They were huge. Their ability to harmonize with precision like that was emulated by many rock bands (the ones that had more than one singer). Loved 'em.
"Let It Be Me"

Mom listened to them all the time. She was proud to be from the same state that they're from. Kentucky
Gotta love the pompadour hair cuts! I'm serious, I thought they were lush!!❤❤

#@! I watched this song to see Cathy's Clown!
Best harmonizer in history: Phil Everly. Best harmonizing group in history: The Beach Boys.
Paul McCartney mentions "Phil and Don" in his song, "Let 'Em In". This is who he was referring to.
Yes they got along, they even joined the Marine Corps together.
They are PHil and DON Everly and they are true brothers. 9:00

When I was a child in the 50’s, Dream was the first song I ever loved. It stood out to me from the other songs that played all day on our radio.
My mother LOVED them.

The Crickets (of Buddy Holly fame) in the back providing backup.
The best of days.
Still sing this at parties, an old favourite in in Aotearoa/New Zealand
"Gee whiz!" isa bit of slang that's disappeared. but it's an expression of surprise and puzzlement.
I was a little kid, but had a crush on both of them. Dreamy! ❤😊
Seems like just yesterday this song came out. What a wonderful time to be alive
I grew up listening to the everly brothers as a kid because of my mom.
When singers could sing, no auto tune brudda,
"Wake Up Little Suzie", Bye Bye Love, lots of great rock and roll songs.
Love the Everly Brothers' harmony.
"Gee Whiz" means "Golly!" 😀
The Lightening Express !
Such a beautiful, sad song. Stunning!
Gee-whiz, dagnabbit, by golly, dang, dog-gonit , were the expletives we use when foul language was still unacceptable. I long for those days again.
My older sister had a portable record player and a stack of 45's, lots of Elvis, tho she also had this one, I used to pester her to play it
The Everly Brothers were more reminiscent of how performers acted in the 50's. That's why Elvis and the others you mentioned caused such a shockwave. 😂
I can name a few sibling groups in the 60's and 70's that apparently got along well. The Everly Brothers, Jackson 5, Bee Gees, The Osmonds, Heart.
And The Carpenters, too. But then you've got the likes of the Kinks, and more recently bands like Oasis.
This was live!
The brilliant Everly Brothers. Please react to Wings of a Nightingale. It was written for them by Sir Paul McCartney. You'll enjoy that!

I was 17 memories
They were the most important duo in rock history and influenced everybody including the Beatles.
💚💕
Gee Whiz means
Oh my goodness!
late in 50s used tp buy embassy records from woolworths
The Kings of 2 part harmony
Hi, so "gee-whiz" is like: darn it, or golly, or bloody hell, or damn it all, or go figure !!!
Check out "Wake Up Little Susie"
Gee Wiz was youth slang, like oh my days.
💚💚
☮️💙
Gee whiz was a slang expression back in the day. You could say golly, or darn it stuff like that. Phil and Don did get along very well, no sibling rivalry.
😎
They influenced the Beatles.
A ballad is a SLOW song.
As for whether they got along and whether brothers used to get along well, ever hear of Cain and Abel?
"Gee Whiz" is a soft expletive that is acceptable in society, even from children.
"Gee" is an alliterative euphemism for Jesus.

Gee Whiz a/k/a, golly, a/k/a amazed, a/k/a holy smokes, a/k/a wow, a/k/a I am so lucky, a/k/a unbelievable...
Gee Wizz: oh God,

gee whiz you are so cute
They are brothers Phil and don
then they got old and they were the elderly brothers
A wise man learns more by listening than by talking, why not educate, then speculate ,,
There's enough grease in their hair to lubricate a locomotive. Been there, done that ... ducktail and all.

gee whizz a 50s 60 expression.
Gee whizz...simply an old school exclamation...from the '50's and early '60's
Gee whiz 50's slang for surprise.
The poetic definition of ballad does not apply so much to pop songs. In pop music, a ballad is a slow tempo song, in this case a love song.
Every Brothers was popular when I was a kid. Then they disappeared. Apparently they had an argument and didn't speak for decades? They did settle whatever split them but their partnership didn't last that long when one passed away.

Gee wiz is mild mannered swearing words for g rated occasions or kids who don’t want to get in trouble
