What Mafia dear?? The project was approved by Sindh government of that time and all those people are still in government. So first dare to report on those personalities then report on the project.

Unfortunately, the land development (for housing facilities) in Pakistan is not possible without paying bribery. There can be a lot of offshoots out of it. Same is the scenario in BTK. And not just this, but each private housing society in Pakistan is bound to follow the same (illegal) strategy to sustain in their business.
Obviously, it is not possible without gaining the support and permissions from various government departments as well as the judicial fora.
So, is it possible to clean all the government departments and judicial sectors from this menace of corruption? If so, then yes, we can move forward to enjoy some legal and fair housing societies here. If no, then simply NOT.
Now, what to do? Let the villages be villages for good?
Or can the government departments be made competent enough to quickly develop the villages (rural areas) into modern housing societies with the capacity to run it successfully for years and years?

Your comment is very logical but most the people are unable to understand this. BTK case is simply a witch hunting. What happened to the Fazia housing society Karachi and its effectees? PARAGON Lahore etc. Who will discuss the DHA for instance? So in Pakistan there is no justice and application of law in spirit.

Bahria Town Karachi all DHA's could be a topic for multiple MPHIL or Ph.D. Studies to see how corruption and manipulations have been penetrated at the grass root fo our society and considered as a norm an acceptable to everyone as a constant.
No need to research and get MPhil or PhD degree on corruption in Pakistan.

As per Atif Mian a famous Princeton Professor, the uncontrolled growth of the real estate sector in Pakistan is eating way the entire economy and must be checked for the allocation fo resources to other productive sectors of the economy such as manufacturing, trading, exports, agriculture, etc.

This is not DAWNS first piece on Bahria town
The project was failed by back biting and hefty plenty imposed by supreme court. In other words no one in Karachi dare to develop such beautiful schemes in future.

Appreciate your attention to this matter, all the powerful institutions are involved in this and I would like to add some information that there are around 2 thousand acres of Sindh university which were reserved for agriculture extensions of the university has been sold by officials, there was some kind of decision made by court and the land was somehow illegally sold with the assistant of authorities..
Just imagine the RUDA project corruption in Lahore if the three stooges stayed in power .as my in law works at RUDA ,the estimated land was 58,000 acres right in the Ravi river bed . I hope punjab govt unveil this mega corruption scadal of three stooges

Letters to editors is no where to be seen anymore in Dawn which used to be a highly read and commented section.
This corruption goes back to Ayub Khan era. According to Commissioner of Karachi Roedad Khan has said during a TV interview that Ayub Khan wanted a large plot in Sadar area Karachi free. The plot was a designated as public building. Mr. Roedad Khan to so then he got something also.( this can be verified. Roedad Saheb is well and alive today.) Ayub Khan’s such request was denied before by General Gracey CNC of Pakistan )

Bahria town is a great housing project, constructed on useless barren land. Govt has failed providing people of karachi a decent housing . Bahria town did that. You should also investigate the occupation of several billion dollars, thousands acres of land occupied by armed forces on main business hub of shahra e faisal. Almost most of land across shahrah e faisal is occupied by them

This is truly an insightful report that forcefully lays bare the 'methods in the madness' of the land mafia. In fact, what we have been recently witnessing vis-à-vis national politics, that is the higher judiciary's absolute lack of command, seems to be evident in BTLK's manipulation of the building rules.
While you have notably pointed out BTLK's acts of misappropriations, what is the legal position of the actual property owners? Sometime ago, the residents had apparently staged a protest to get possession of the original property documents. If that, indeed, was the case, what is the current position?

Im still waiting for bahria town karachi to reimburse or relocate my plot. I paid whole amount in 2014. My whole life savings and hard earned money. No one is there to give is justice. Its been 10 years 😢
The question is what will government do after acquiring this land from bahria? Development? Road? Infrastructure? Power projects?... What we need to realize is that bahria is no saint but the alternative to bahria is far more worse.. atleast these guys have built something incredible rather then just leaving it for some wadeera or sardar .

⭐ People here blaming BTK need to understand the project was on progress but the judiciary ( or through judiciary) the project was implicated in litigation and cases. BTK took approval and paid for the land but in later years when Raheel sharif became chief project started to face trouble and Mr. Zardari also need to settle abroad during that time. BTK is simply a case of witch hunting as no good project can be developed or is not allowed to be developed in Karachi.

This is simply a witch hunt. 60% of Karachi is not liveable or even affordable for general public. Here we have someone who is trying to build something which is affordable for ordinary people with some family protection and in the process creating hundreds and thousands of jobs. I do understand where dawn is coming from and trying to make it up look like a principal stance but we in Pakistan, especially in Karachi are past this stage. The case should not be seen as something based on strict moral principals instead through utilitarian approach.
I do appreciate the bravery and courage that has been shown in this piece though for taking on the biggest land developer in Pakistan.
Perhaps dawn can also follow up on DHA city and other land grabbing projects in Karachi
Affordable? 😂 the punjabi guy is stealing land from local sindhis and selling multiple files for a single plot. There are still a lot of plots available within karachi at reasonable rates if you look away from DHA and do a research.
@@redbaron9029 the punjabi guy is stealing the plots with the help and encouragement of other sindhis who don't care about the lower class sindhis. if you could open your eyes and see that this whole thing is about money for these elite and corrupt politicians and businessmen and we the commoners are there to fight about caste and language for them. lets not make everything about punjabi,mohajjar, Sindhi etc and for ones see how these guys play us in the name of caste and language.
and when I say affordable I don't mean just plots my friend, I mean rent, the facilities, the infrastructure around my home etc. you pay 50k in Bahria for rent and get facilities that someone in jauhar or gulshan dream about.
