    Who am I?
I am Matt and I love to break down and analyze video games to the fullest extent. I tend to be very overly critical when analyzing games so don't worry if I am a little harsh on a game you like, that's just who I am. It's okay to disagree with one another.

There's also the Bombchu Shop in Castle Town as a kid, which I think only requires the Bomb Bag to buy them. It's in a back alley and 7 years in the past, but still closer than the flying carpet guy.
There's also plenty of Bombchus in chests all over the game, and the Bombchu game gives Bombchus as a prize, so if the player explores even a moderate amount of the side content of the game, they should be able to find some.
But yeah, in that room specifically, the closer crystal that can easily be hit with the sword spawns a chest with Bombchus in it. Nintendo's level design was never that bad.

Menu and interface problems aside, I love the Water Temple BECAUSE it was so difficult. It was the defining point where I got stuck that added so much mystery to the rest of the dungeon and the game, because I couldn't reach it. Also, I feel like the complexity adds to the replay value of the dungeon and the game. I want Zelda to be full of dungeons that I'm not going to easily memorize the solutions to.

When I was a kid I used to watch my older sister and cousin play, and I was absolutely in love with the fire temple. Now as an adult, for some reason, the forest temple has become my favorite. I love the whole soundtrack of the game, but the forest temples theme just fits so damn perfectly to the design of the temple. It’s so mysterious and intriguing, and the lack of foreknowledge makes it even more captivating. It has an ominous yet welcoming atmosphere. Whenever I play through the game again, I’m always so excited for the forest temple and always take my sweet time getting through it.

Great video! Also just 3 things that I think will help you on a replay of this game.
#1 The annoying Inside Jabu Jabu mini boss can be killed in 1 hit if you attack him with a jumping attack with the Deku Stick. Get behind him and stun him with boomerang, jump attack with Deku Stick and he dies instantly and the whole thing is over in less than 30 seconds.
#2 in the shadow temple, just before the ferry, that block you move to get to the ladder unlocks a shortcut that takes you to the beginning of the dungeon so that you don’t have to run through the whole thing in case you die at the end like you said.
#3 the spirit temple climbing wall that you were having so much trouble with and falling down for 20 minutes, you can use your long shot and just simply hookshot to the very top claimable wall and skip the entire thing lol.

  • @hunterboucher3070
    @hunterboucher3070 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

For the Shadow Temple, in order to avoid re-traversing the dungeon, you could set Farore's Wind in the room before the boss. Be sure to save before you enter to fight. If you die, dont save, and when you respawn you can simply warp back and try again. Always remember to cast another warp point though.

  • @MaliceLynel

For me, the only qualm I think I have about the Spirit Temple is that once you’ve completed half of the temple as child link, you then have to leave the temple, go back to the Temple of Time, and become adult link again in order to complete the rest of the Spirit Temple. That, to me, can be viewed as a bit of a momentum killer. Regardless, I do appreciate how the game requires you to explore the temple as child Link as it shows just how much you’ve grown from your experiences as adult Link.

Not sure if everyone else had this experience, but when playing on the 3DS I realized I could predict which painting he would phase out of by listening to the sound coming out of the speakers. It made the fight that much more engaging for me when I had to use one of my five senses in addition to my gaming skills.

If you bomb some rocks around Jabu Jabu's area as a child, you can get a spell from the Great Fairy called Farore's wind, which will place a teleport point where you leave it in dungeons, helps a lot with the timed Megaton hammer stairs in the Fire Temple and the linear issue with the Shadow Temple. Heck, you can just place it before any boss and have a waypoint right there!
Also, you can kill Volvagia really fast, I've done it in like 36 seconds, accounting for time to run to the portal (this being on the boss refight thing on the 3DS version), all you have to do is jump attack with the Megaton hammer/Biggoron's sword when you stun her (jump attacks do double damage, so use them or quick spin attacks whenever possible if you want speed), shoot her with the bow while running in the same direction as her and targeting her (because you'll miss otherwise), and dropping a bomb or two in the hole she goes in (because the hitbox is still there), you can probably two cycle her easy!

I feel like Bottom of the Well is a companion dungeon to the Shadow Temple, like both in actual lore and gameplay. Because not only is it closely connected to the Royal Family like the Shadow Temple, but much like Ice Cavern, it has an item that is needed to beat the main dungeon (in the case of IC, that's Water Temple) at least on casual playthroughs. You could view it in a similar way to the child and adult branches of the Spirit Temple, only the dungeons are completely physically disconnected and instead of learning about the nuances of the Gerudo people, you learn about the war crimes of the Royal Family.
So I think as is, Bottom of the Well is complete, it's just part of the larger backstory of Hyrule's wars and comes to a head at the Shadow Temple.

In the game Ocarina of Time. When you first enter the water Temple walk right to the edge, left edge. Jump to the second ledge and run around to the two lamps, use Dins fire and you are in the main center chamber. Hook shot up and sink to first key. If you want to return just save and end game and restart then jump to second ledge. It just makes solving this this dungeon so easy. I can zip through this one fast. Also at night as young link if you stay on the paths those skeleton things will leave you alone. This water Temple trick is amazing!!!! Try it!!!!

Huh... Maybe it's just me but using THE Megaton Hammer that stopped Volvagia in the first place made his fight seem rather short. I can understand wanting to use the sword and I think in Wind Waker your sword does more damage than the hammer against the Helmaroc King but I swear Volvagia is actually really short if you just use the hammer. I just want to point out that part of the reason you kept falling off the climbable wall in the Spirit Temple is because Link was between two different panels when they moved. 1. You don’t have to go to the desert to get bomchus lol. I know you figured it out that there’s a chest with them in the dungeon but you can buy bomchus at either one of the shops at kakariko village or one of the shops at the town market as kid link.
    2. How is the well optional?! You need the lens of truth unless you can mesmerize where every invisible platform is in every dungeon some how.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I still absolutely love the Water Temple. I've always thougth people massively overstate the problem with the iron boots, considering that it only takes two seconds to switch them. I love it's labrynthian design, it's music, the mini- boss, the longshot, the complexity of it, and have never found the water level gimmick frusturating. Again, you can disagree, but I really believe that if the Water Temple was made now, people would love it. Many people who played OoT when it first came out hated the Water Temple because they couldn't complete it when they were 10, and have had resentment for it that has spread since then. I always loved it's level design, and am happy to be one of the seemingly few who count it as one of the best dungeons in the game (Although it is starting to become more popular now which is great).

I know it's considered a bit of a useless item, but simply casting Farore's Wind in the room leading up to the boss as an adult (and in the well, spirit temple, jabu jabu as a kid) removes the back track if you die in a boss fight. It only takes magic on the first cast, not to return to your warp point.

Water temple is my favourite in the game. It requires you to use the map and think. Finding unaxcessable areas and figuring out how to get there when the dungeon is in a different state is amazing. I love puzzles which affect the state of an entire dungeon. Also backtracking because you didnt have enough small keys I also didnt mind because then I had to figure out where id forgotten to look, which I didnt mind as much. Spending more time in a dungeon navigating it is not neccessarily bad imo. Love the atmosphere, maybe it could have more interesting combat except dark Link, but otherwise I love it.

also in the shadow temple (idk if it's here too i'm playing the 3ds version) there a shortcut where if you push a block you can basically go back to the silver ruppees room (which is almost at the beggining) and also this shortcut is at the start of the flying boat room

In the fire temple boss, you can climb on the side of the platform while the Boss is circling around in the air and the reason it takes a lot of hits is because you are using the sword instead of the hammer. In the spirit temple you can hook shot on the top of the moving wall instead of climbing all the way up.

    @SkywalkerFoe 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hey man, nice video!! Thought I'd add a couple of comments and leave my own dungeon ranking. First off, you had a complaint regarding Ganon's castle regarding the dungeon not supplying you with enough items, (though you did eventually find those bombchus ;) ) given that it's a dungeon, especially the last dungeon in the game, it would make sense for the game to expect you to come prepared.
I think your problem with the Bottom of the Well can be explained by a matter of perspective. You complimented the spirit temple for having a neat mechanic of solving half of it as a child, and the other half of it as an adult. The Bottom of the Well is simply the first half of the Shadow Temple. You get the Iron gauntlets from the child half of the spirit temple, and you get the lense of truth from the first half of the shadow temple. Keep in mind the thematic resemblance and location as well. It all lines up
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Water Temple. One of my favorite temples in the whole series. I think the issue can be brought down to about 2 things, lack of patience, and people not thinking about dungeons as a whole. I totally understand not being patient while playing a game, but that kind of thing will punish you in the water temple. As for the latter, there are 2 different kinds of dungeons, as Mark Brown puts it, Gauntlet style, and puzzle box style. A textbook Gauntlet dungeon is the Shadow Temple, less thinking about the dungeon as a whole, instead a larger focus one room at a time, completing the puzzle in the current room to progress to the next challenge. Puzzle Box style is generally more difficult due to the dungeon itself being the puzzle. You have to open the map and think, "I'm here, but *how* do I get over there?" and I love that feeling in a dungeon.
Love what you said on the Deku Tree! It is a perfect dungeon, easy enough for newcomers while showing you how to expect dungeons to function in the series. I have a hard time ranking this on my own list, as it has great design, but the difficulty of later dungeons I greatly appreciate.
I think your issue with Volvagia can be solved, too. Regarding the health, once you stun it, use Jump Slashes, as they are the hardest hitting attack in the game. As a plus, you can get the Biggoron sword before you begin any adult dungeons, so that paired with the Jump Slash should speed up the boss fight a good bit.
    Now, for my unprompted ranking:
    1: Water Temple
    2: Spirit Temple
    3: Forest Temple
    4: Fire Temple
    5: Beneath the Well
    6: Inside the Deku Tree
    7: Jabu Jabu's Belly
    8: Shadow Temple
    9: Ganon's Castle
    10: Dodongo's Cavern
    11: Ice Cavern
    12: Gerudo Training Grounds
I also want to restate that there is no such thing as a bad dungeon in Ocarina of Time. It's just the matter of some of these dungeons taking the lower spots. Again, great video, I really enjoyed the watch! :)

I was thinking of how to describe the two different types of dungeon styles because I noticed that in the game. One with a central hub that almost feels like a project and the other which acts as an obstacle course almost. I might reuse this comment (With credit) in future videos when describing dungeons because you perfectly put into words the differences between design of a lot of these dungeons. Thanks for the comment!

Bottom of the Well is definitely my bottom tier-(no pun intended)-for dungeons/temples in this game and for basically all the reasons you stated. It has all the hallmarks of a legitimate dungeon, but they just pissed the bed at the finish line. I agree that it feels like it was meant to be more but they cut it down for time, especially when you consider that all you have to do is lower the water, return to the entrance and fight Dead Hand. There's nothing else that needs to be done, and that's sad because with a little work it could have at least been considered an actual dungeon and not some weird side quest with a useless pay off. All they had to do was make Dead Hand a legitimate boss that didn't return in the Shadow Temple and make the Lense of Truth more essential too. As it is though, it's just a weird Shadow Temple light with a reward that's almost useless.
Also, just a little FYI, if you have no patience for that climbing bit in the Spirit Temple, you're about to feel even worse for failing at it so much. You can cheese the entire wall by using the Longshot to immediately latch up to the top part of it. Have fun next time you play the Spirit Temple with that knowledge!
