Wow, I didn't know you could use acrylic and oils together. Doing your underpainting in acrylic and then switching to oild.

Yes, never paint acrylics on top of oils.
If you buy store bough canvases, they are primed with an acrylic gesso. So if you paint oils on them, you're already painting oils on acrylics without even knowing!

Why do you use avrylic amber before starting oil

I use it as an underpainting.
I have a solvent free studio so I don't thin down my oils. Doing this with acrylics gets the same effect as thined down oils but with no solvents
