You are one of the rare youtube artist who actually paint literal masterpieces every time they get a brush into their hands! Like, the colors, the shapes, the proportions, never overloaded and always on point😭😭thank u for teaching us, simple mortals🙏
Well just remember, for every masterpiece he shows, there’s probably a heap of failed paintings he’ll eventually paint over. So if you’re painting, yourself, don’t be discouraged if every painting isn’t a masterpiece.
@@raymondmcyeetface6850and just keep on painting!
I think that the white part of the snout was painted longer than the reference in your painting.
Its interesting that both paintings feel different while they are following the same reference.
I really like the blocky saturated edges in the students work, I think it looks very stylised on purpose like in Jean Mannhiems vibrant still lifes or Sarah Sadwicks paintings. It has lots of energy to it.
And yours is also unique like an opposite take that focuses on softness; with the edges and lower contrast making the colours more pastel and calming.
I like the student painting more, it’s more vibrant and alive
Yeah I prefer the amount of contrast the student painting has, I do agree with him that it should have been cropped more towards the dog but ultimately I prefer the style of it over the teacher’s. It could also be just because I feel like working with oils make it easy to “muddy” the painting so the vibrancy is just especially pleasing.
The scraping trick for whiskers is super helpful, hadnt heard that before, I always just tried using a small brush and theyd always come out way too thick
Masterfully painted Chris! Love your dog portraits!
Excellent tips and excellent painting!
Such a good video and painting! 👌🏼
Chris, I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed your videos. This one is fantastic and so helpful. I became a Patreon member after watching so many of your videos on TH-cam. I’ve been painting for a little over a year now and I can definitely see the growth. THANK YOU for being such a big part of that1❤
Beautifully done as usual. This is one of your best in my opinion. You make me want to paint!
Gorgeous work as ALWAYS!
Thanks for the good tips, Chris.
i love painting dogs, you have the chance to work out some nice textures. Nice painting Chris, love the light/shadow effect.
Great job
Very useful! Thank you!
I've watched this before but i gotta say these are fantastic tips. I really get so much out of your content. I love how you get detail without actually going too much into detail. If that makes sense. Im trying to tone back my details because sometimes my underpainting looked better lol
I love this. Your paintings have such dynamic temperature and your vids helped me learn a lot. How about birds?
Thank you so much very helpful!
I can’t believe I watched all of this
Thanks for all the tips, very concise and well explained. I really enjoy your videos. Take Care
Glad you like them!
Soo informative !!❤️ thx a lot
Very helpful!
Very interesting 🥰
You are such a fantastic teacher. I just bought my first set of oils and thought I'd try it out. I definitely should have done some research beforehand 😂 .... but I'm finding all you techniques super helpful. Thank you!! How do you get in a class or become a student? I'd love to get help with my art
very nice
Thanks
Great💪🏼
Can you pls make a video about the difference of different brush hair (nylon/hog/taklon/etc)
tony the pug 😍
can you talk about how to paint stripe cats or animals? I find it very hard at the blocking stage due to the complexity of the local color.
Would doing a very light pencil sketch of the dog and making the values that way work and be painted over easy?
Yes that could work as well. You can actually do that and then use a brush with paint thinner over it
Great video and class! And cats? Do you have videos about them?
It's the same, maybe emphasize on what he said about soft edges and "seamless transition" as cats have thinner hair.
All living things are the same. Shapes, value, edges. Something he doesn't talk about is the ambiance and color arrangement. If you use alot of red and black it could come off as sad. But if you use a yellow or orange background it seems a little happier.
Please where do you get your reference photos
I take most of them myself but this one was submitted by a patron
DOGGIE
Marry me
Lol
tip no1 should be: dont take a dog comissions LOL, have some respect for yourself. unless you love painting dogs then do it but cmon, dog comission? wtf edit: spelling
Jennifer Gennari would disagree
You could say this about anything. There's nothing degrading about drawing dogs, at least in this context.
What do you have against painting dogs? Bizzarre take.
Dogs are considered part of a family. Some have left millions to their dogs. There is no shame in doing dog commissions or any animal someone has a connection to.
This is such a weird comment
