Bro...👏
I'm always so insecure when it comes to portraits but breaking it down into these steps really helps a lot. Thank you :-)
Love how in depth you got with this one. Love the "step" process. Really helps organize the project. Always with the heat Slew, and you portrayed your girlfriend beautifully!! 👏👏👏
Slew's studio is very huge and all the works hanging on the wall shows that he is worth watching and to learn from him. Thanks Slew for your free tutorial !
The amount of detail in this is amazing. Loved seeing the full process! Amazing work as always~
Great job Slew. I just discovered you in the last week and noticed how you’ve improved since your videos from 2 years ago. I’ve also learned a lot from you. Thanks!
amazing as always! Contrasts very nicely to the last one! The naturalistic colors are done so well!
Bro makes me want to paint again, I’m glad he follows his own process I mean we all have different way in which we work. Keep it up with the amazing work.
Very well done and the processes seem so simple when broken down. Beautiful finished piece.
Portraits are super hard for me but watching your videos fills me with confidence to hopefully give it a shot someday!
Thank you for sharing. This video is so informative and educational. I believe more college art instructors should watch this one and incorporate in their teaching because the way you simplified it and made it so easy to follow is top notch!
Absolutely amazing! I have to say one of the best paint tutorial videos I have seen.
This was an amazing tutorial! Love your methodology!
I like your steps in painting. Very inspiring. Thanks a lot.
Slew, you do a wonderful job! This is how I learned to paint. Your tutorials are awesome. Keep it up my friend. Thank you for sharing your time, your skill and your adventure👍🤟🪡🎨
Always awesome content. I have enjoyed following your journey.
I love how the glaze sort of wakes up the painting, it's a beautiful thing to see. It's like it smooths and brightens the whole painting.
Incredible compose of work and you are truly passionate teacher to include us in your tutorial in painting or drawing process..
Well organized and presented. This is the process I use if painting from a photo.
Another great and informative video :D Thanks Sam!!! 😍
Excellent video! I love the lighting in your work. The 17th century Dutch influence really comes through in a beautiful way. 👍👍
Stunning! I am impressed.
This is a terrific video, will watch it again in my studio! THank you for all this hard work!
Great job. I love the highlights. Blessings.
Excellent outcome, very, very good!!
Remember that you could also use transfer paper and print the photo on like 60% opacity. Just open it in Paint and use preferences of printing to print it in poster mode so you could then combine all sheets together and put them on the transfer paper that is on the canvas.
When you don't really know what block of colors to paint, you can use photoshop to posterize the photo so you can see where and what colors to paint on the canvas. Both these tips will help you save a few hours :)
I just want to share what I learned back when I started painting two years ago ^^
You need to make a video of your own. Sounds interesting.
That's great tips for students! That's what I do with them! I show them the posterize version so they can see better the values and it changes so much their perspective!
Nice work Slew! Loved all the tips to make the best Portrait oil painting🔥 nice cyborg mask
It's awesome to see how much you've progressed over the years man! Well done

Hi SLEW. -.ZeS.- from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
Joined your channel a few months ago but I don't post much (not a lot of spare time, if you know what I mean!).
Love your channel! Very interesting and full of cool new ideas and creative process...
I like the limited palette approach! I use it in Watercolor and Gouache (my current preferred mediums) and I'll be starting into Acrylics soon too, but always with a limited palette (less costs and you learn soooo much more quicker!).
Your Cyclops also inspired me to do a small piece (no copies, I swear!). But I follow your channel since I subscribed (I found you through Jess Karp's channel when she visited you in NY).
I also watched some of your podcasts (I sometimes put 'em on while I'm doin' my own stuff)... you got a nice voice for radio!
😁😁😁👍
Well, good stuff and keep it up (NY & Brooklyn costs must be a killer nowadays!)... and I'll keep watching (with my all seeing eye!).
😂😂😂
Cheers from Sunny Spain, Dude!
😁👍😎
Forgot to ask a question... I don't have a TH-cam channel yet or anything but...
Why do people usually send a message just saying... "Fist one"! (To send a message...???)
Is there some kind if competition I'm unaware of? ('Cause what's the frigging point? If you know what I mean).
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Anyways... DONT EVER STOP! Your Art is inspiring, as well as your approach!
Cheers from Sunny Spain!
😁👍😎
Rembrant! ❤
Amazing!! Good lesson
Gracias desde Bogotá Colombia

I like your presentation n 5 steps. Thanks a lot.

I paint since 2016 and used to do acrylics but now I am doing oil but I am not able to do portraits. Really hard. Congratulations you are extremely talented. I did one Portrait for my daughter on the top of a mountain but just the back view! 😂
Thankyou slew
Hey Slew, was curious how you add a hanging feature to display your painting?
Nice painting bro 😊🙏👍
Nicely presented!
I love that mask!
I’m learning to paint with acrylic portrait just learning and love it thanks God ❗️
Nice!
You are awesome painter
Wow !!! Bravissimo
which paints you are using? My paintings don't dry this soon. Cab you do a video about how to do commission portraits in oil in short amount of time ?
Thanksss man I used ur technique and painted marilyn Monroe it turned out great I just gotta practice more
Woh ! In a few of your paintings you had an issue with the eyes, i think you have solved it ! I really like your chanel and the progress (i follow since 5 or 6 years now !)
(Sorry for my english 🇫🇷)
Enjoyed your video. Thanks.
Probably one of the best and least intimidating tutorials I’ve ever seen here on TH-cam :-) and believe me I watch a lot of them! currently, I don’t even paint and oils and/or acrylic… I do watercolor mostly and pastel, but your explanation makes it pretty easy to apply to any medium :-) i’ve always heard of the grid method, I know it’s absolutely fundamental and age old reliable technique, but it always looked boring and intimidating and I’m actually considering trying it because of this video!
THANK YOU
Very good 👍
Thank you so much ❤
You make it look soooo easy....
Great vedio. I learned a lot. Thanks
I love your process and camera angles/Voice over because some other videos make me ZZzzzZZ LOL
Great Job Sir love your work and your attitude.
I love your name
Well....thanks. I had good parents and didn't get to pick it ! Lol😂
Superb young man
Where did you find such a large glass palette??
good work and strategy.
I sometimes do the outline with a Sharpie and in case of a mistake, I can either white-out with gesso or erase with sandpaper.
Ugh I wish I was as good as you !!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you.😊
Great video thank you
Im 66. This is how I learned to paint a portrait. Thanks. A great easy basic understanding of creating a portrait.
what grid app do you used?
Again I have to say you are progressing well in your portrait paining! Even though I do not use the grid method myself, I think it has helped you get proportions down much better! Pretty much most artists take the same approach to building up a painting, yet I’m one of the oddballs, where I come in from a different process. Not saying my way is correct, but I do ok with it. The thing is, don’t be shy to try other ways to build upon a painting. I know I keep trying other methods, and learn new techniques along the way.
Keep up the good work!❤❤
