If you complete the time attacks with no damage there is a heart that will appear next to the trophy, see 19:30. There’s also a trophy above gold, shiny gold. When you select time attack go to the leaderboards and you’ll see everyone has one. To get shiny gold times you have to get a time much faster than gold, unfortunately the specific time isn’t listed in game.
I have OCD so I got the gold medal on every level thinking that I 100% the game and this comment just made me realize I’m nowhere close 💀

@@jezzmaninjapan yep. I usually spend 1-3 hours getting them on each level so I can be top 50 on the leaderboards. On Frosty Fruits, I spent over 12 hours throughout multiple days to get a good time and get 3rd on the leaderboards. I also have 5th place on 2 levels. Since the game was designed for speedrunning, the time trials are pretty fun and a lot of the levels have tricks or shortcuts.
Probably my favourite Ryu series so far. Since Ryu is well-versed in platformers he has an easier time cherishing the good game design in Tropical Freeze which is always satisfying to watch.

Yeah secret levels with the same aesthetics. Boring. At least in the DKC SNES games, the secret world levels were new and interesting and not just the same thing multiple times over.

@@the8thark ya DKC2 & 3 defs did bonus content way better than the Retro era games, but that being said, the level design of the secret levels in DKCTF are still top fuckin’ notch!

This game is so awesome. The mechanics and visuals constantly impressed me. I hope they make another one soon.
The level design is incredible, especially as you progress. Rayman Legends, KAZE, and Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair are all great games that share some similarities, but I don't think any of them even come close to touching Tropical Freeze in terms of brilliant level design. It's just next level.
Retro is doing Prime 4. Though Yooka Lalyee and the Impossible Lair was similar to DKC TF.
Unfortunately, I doubt Retro Studios (the game that made Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong Country Returns) will be making another Donkey Kong Country game due to politics between them and Nintendo. Plus Nintendo is getting Retro Studios to make other titles right now.
We just need a dedicated home for Donkey Kong again, like back in the Rare days, I hate not knowing if or when we’ll get a new DKC game! 😭 Every nintendo direct I’m always like “maybe this will be the one where we get a new DKC announcement 🤞” lol
It's Donkey Kong's 40th anniversary this year, so hopefully we get something.

Ryu, you unlock those extra levels by getting all the KONG pieces in a world. Also, you missed a secret exit in 1-3.

2-3 is my favorite level. The music is just so catchy. Especially with the horns playing. So dope.
You like that hell it's a cool level and the is good but it's just so chaotic and the wind is really annoying
Sadly, Rambi is the only animal buddy you get to ride. The only other animal buddy that appears is Sqwaks, but he only helps you find puzzle pieces.

I wish enguarde was in the game since there's an entire water world and a water boss fight. Enguard is basically all the kongs combined. Diddy's jet boost is a worse version of his charge up. Dixie Kong's movement is easy to control like Enguarde. Cranky's pogo attack is like his sword jab.
I hope that the next dkc game that will probably not come out for 10 years has more animal buddies. The developers also stated that they wanted more animal buddies, but there were too many good ideas with normal levels that they only included Rambi.

This is a great series! Yeah, Dixie is easily the best partner for most situations. Her hover can help correct a bad jump. Although, there are a select few situations where Cranky comes in handy on some levels. When I played this game, I don't think I ever actively chose Diddy. He is just outclassed completely by Dixie (which was also kind of true in Donkey Kong Country 2 as well).

Those yellow hearts you get from dixie’s special ability are extra hits.
It's kind of insane how quickly Ryu gets really good at games he's never played before.
22:00 As someone who has done a lot of Tropical Freeze Speedruns I'd say that Diddy is useless in pretty much every scenario, Dixie is the easiest to play with and Cranky is for those who want a challenge. Also, often times when you're doing a speedrun, you actually wanna have Cranky instead of Dixie because he is - in *most* cases - faster than dixie, escpecially in boss battles.
You gotta show how brilliant the next levels are. Especially World 3 is absolutely fantastic. A full playthrough would be absolutely worth it. I really hope people support this series!

Love this series, DKC:TF was my favorite game for Wii U! Cranky is the most fun to play with, imo. And he's essential to get the best times for those shiny gold medals in Time Attack. There's a trick you can do to bust your companion's barrel at full speed in one motion. Takes some practice but it shaves a second off your time if you're trying for shiny gold.
Keep the series going. We're enjoying, and it's nice to see you are too!
It's fun to see Ryu get a bit complacent and try to be greedy with his jumps. Fun because Tropical Freeze often punishes you for that. Not every time, but still. It's a hard lesson.
I refused to watch part 1 until there was a part 2. Rest assured, I will watch all of them! I love these multipart series. But nothing worse than just one video of a single-player game. Thanks for continuing DK, Ryu.

If you haven't played them yet, I think it would also be cool to see some other retro platformers, like Aladdin and The Lion King, or maybe a 3D platformer like Super Mario Sunshine.

In the time trials, there is a better medal than the golden medal but it doesn’t tell you the time you need to get it. If you wanna get a true 100% you need to collect a “shiny golden medal.” You get one by beating the gold medal time by like 10 or so seconds. The difference between the shiny one and regular is that the shiny one has a little sparkle in the upper left corner
Ryu is so used to letting Yoshi fall and die, he's trying to do the same thing to Rambi over and over again.

Probably my favorite content you have put out so far. I was walking around the house, then i realized ryu might have a new Tropical freeze video because its sunday and bee-lined it to the PC.

I think there is a few things you should know if you want to 100% this game
There is a rank better than a gold it’s called the shiny gold medal this is not said in the game so if you want to get it you should look up the time
You can get a heart medal next to the level if you get a fast time without taking damage
I recommend if you want to get a good time on every corse you look at the world record from that corse (It’s in the game you don’t have to look it up)
I think you know this but you can roll consecutively if you have someone on your back
Puzzle pieces and Kong letter work a little differently if you collect a puzzle piece and die you don’t have to collect it again however if you do the same with a letter you must collect it again
Kong letters must be collected in one run (you may use checkpoints)
Sometimes there are some tricky puzzle pieces where you have to collect all the bananas in a row to spawn a puzzle piece.
Before you go into a time trial you can change the “default” option and choose which Kong appears in the barrels
If the bar next to your icon is fully yellow and you have a partner you can press L and R and make all the enemies on screen turn into items depending on which partner you have (this does NOT work in time attack)

Loving this series! Not sure if you've seen Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair, but it's essentially a hybrid of this and the older DKC games, mechanically speaking (rather than 3D platformer like the first one). Would love to see a series on it after this!

Yeah I agree, hands down Dixie is the best. Later on in the game you run solo and that's where she really stands out.

I completed the game 100 percent last week. Was so tough but a brilliant game. Now only thing left to do is sit and collect all the puzzle pieces at leisure.

Great series but you Must go back to World 1 to get all Kong letters in all levels to unlock the special stage (with no checkpoints) where all the fun begins!

I want an entire playthrough, maybe even with all the secrets! There's also shiny gold medals, whih are much harder than the regular gold medals, but they don't do anything. Might be a bit too much to ask for tho to get them all :P I only had the patience for that in the first world
Unfortunately Rambi is the only controllable animal buddy in this game. You can purchase Squawks as a power-up who helps you find hidden stuff. You don’t seem to need help in that area. You can also buy barrels and extra hearts at the store. Don’t bother with the vehicle hp item though.

I just got DKC Returns for the Wii and DKC Tropical Freeze. I’m ready for a week full of Kong!
DKC Returns is WAAAYYY more difficult.....
it does NOT have any "hold your hand" type of ways to beat a level...
and you only have Diddy as a buddy to work with.... nothing else.
