This series has the combined majesty of the artwork and music of DK but the hilarity and comfort of Ryu's shenanigans.
I love DKC for it's artwork and music, it's so beautiful. The controls are a little jank and can get frustrating at times, but it has something for everyone. Secrets make you feel like you've found hidden stuff. Harder levels for the completionists. Time attack for the speed runners. I have my complaints about how some of the sections work as well but they pale in comparison to the wonder that this game is. I really hope Nintendo don't sleep on this series.
PS. The music is something I sleep to constantly, it's so calming.

I think it's crazy that you've been doing the time attacks (it's like those relics in crash all over again). It'd be wild to see you do them all but don't push yourself. If you stop having fun with them or the game starts feeling like a chore then you can worry about it.
Time Attack and puzzle pieces don't add anything to the precentage, so personally i don't mind if he wouldn't do them if it besomes too much of a time sink.
He seems to really be enjoying it though.

I have great respect for ryukahr beating all the time attacks. I’ve played DKCR and DKCTF several times but was always much too afraid of the time attacks. Guess I’m not good enough of a gamer for them. Since I’ve never seen a let’s play including the time attacks, it’s really a fresh take on the game IMHO.

There's more than just gold in this game - if you go almost perfectly fast, there's also "shiny gold" which looks slightly different than normal gold! I figure you might enjoy something a little harder speed-wise since you seem to be getting the normal golds fairly easily

DK Hype!!!!! I love how you go for absolutely everything in this game. It's so satisfying to watch you 100% everything as you go, it feels clean and gives me a sense of accomplishment by proxy. And that's an absolute yes please on those 2 hour videos.

This game is a masterpiece. Probably the best platformer ever made.
There is one thing I don't like, which is the bonus challages being all too similar to one another. Outside of that, I love this game. It is an amazing platformer, for sure.

100% it. I'm not a huge DK fan in general, but I love this series. Seeing you complete the levels, gather all the secrets, and then do the time attacks is immensely satisfying.
I don't mind this being an epic series that takes forever. This is one of my favorite games ever, and every video to me is a reminder of how beautiful of a masterpiece it is. Please do 100% it.

I love the strats that come out of the time attacks and it brings some tension to the series. I am ok with a long series and long videos but I wonder how the algorithm treats videos that are 2 hours long

time attacks are prolly the most fun to watch parts of the playthrough. i'd honestly like a series where you only showed the time attacks and no kong/puzzle pieces more than a series where you only showed the kong/puzzle pieces but didn't show time attacks.
I mean, you keep saying the Time Attacks are your favorite part, and they're like the exciting cherry on top of each level, so please don't stop doing them for OUR sake!

Ryu never figured this out unfortunately but for anyone playing the game and are struggling with barrel jumps, just hold down as you're falling. The same goes for jumps on enemies.
I dont think they intended for players to try and time the enemy jumps perfectly since it was never required, and expected you to know how by the time required barrel jumps appeared.
Please keep going with this series, all the time attacks too, fantastic to watch you in action on this game!
Love the format you’ve been doing! Totally down for a long series!
Man this game is so good... Making me want to re-play it. The level design is second to none and the soundtrack is fantastic. Oh yeah, don't forget to use your special move (L+R). Dixies is the best... get as many enemies on screen as you can and use it so you can rack up the gold hearts. Becomes clutch in some of the more difficult later levels.
Time attacks are what make this series good. We need them.
For sure go the 100 % of the entire game, because for 1 thing it's that good of a game, for two, looks like your having a blast paying it and thirdly, how often do you get to 100 % complete a game that your viewers honestly enjoying watching as much as you like playing. My vote is to do it.

That was my first thought too.... It's working out alright now, and it seems like he really enjoys the time attack so that makes for good content. But man this game gets pretty fucking hard. Bopopolis is only the SECOND K level. Shit gets real as the game progresses...

The final time attack confirmed what I was thinking the whole episode. Dixie is just a crutch. Ryu has the skill to platform like crazy. He just needs the confidence.

Definitely want a 100% of this if possible. Absolute top tier content, one of my all time favorite platformers and it's nice to see it getting attention again.
I like the time attacks, it feels like you have fun exploring the levels looking for all the secrets, then it's like super expert when you do time trial, great vatiety and very entertaining

He can do those after he beats the game cause that's gonna take a whole episode just to get 1 or 2 of them

@@donoz8261 yeah if you speedrun the levels perfectly and use difficult starts and shortcuts, you can barely get a shiny gold time. It's not shown in the game, but you can look it up online. Each stage has around 100 shiny gold medal times uploaded to the leaderboards, so you must be a god at this game to get them all.
In Busted Bayou, the only way to get the shiny gold is to do a difficult start to skip the giant vine you pull out. You have to bounce on the large bush guy, then bounce on 3 dragonflies over a bottomless pit.

@@donoz8261 Yeah there is but it is secret. Basically, if you are like a couple seconds earlier than the gold medal time. You will get shiny golden medal. The difference is that the shiny one has a sparkle or sheen in the upper left corner

This is easily becoming my favorite series to watch. I like the Time Attacks.
Honestly 2-K Bopopolis is one of my favorite levels in the game. I had a blast trying to speedrun it as fast as possible on Wii U. You can book it when using bounce momentum properly. The level flows great. Ryu's pretty lucky his refusal to do the regular level without Dixie didn't backfire horribly. Slowing those jumps down worked in his favor for finding the puzzle pieces though.
I think the time attacks following each level is a win win for everyone. We get to see some crazy exciting content, and you get to replay the level while it's fresh in your mind. Not that you couldn't easily come back to this game in 10 years and kill it cause you're just that good anyway lol
I'm in favor of the full 100%, Time Attack included. It's such a neat run and it's fun to see you attack each level in different ways. I understand why you're hesitant to make this one game in to a 30-part series. I'm loving it, though. Your obvious love of this game adds to much to it.
Ryu, I say do the whole 100% run. I know it's going to take longer, but you're doing a heck of an awesome job playing this game that some of us can't get. Also, the fact you did 100% on world 1 shows your dedication and enjoyment of this game.
This is one of my favorite games, The level of difficulty is insane once you get deeper into the game. Time attacks are my favorite part of this playthrough! Watching you innovate (especially in the first few episodes, was my favorite part!
It's actually really simple to get the long jumps from enemies. All you need to do is release jump button and then press and hold it all in the air before landing on an enemy. You gotta do it between every enemy if you want to chain jumps. No specific timing needed, just have to release, press and hold in the air. Also if you use Diddy's/Dixie's flight you gotta release and hold again after it.
Defenitley keep the time attack runs, seeing somone enjoy this game by recognizing how well it is desighned and is going for 100% and is talented enough to pull it off is fantastic !

I love this series! I have played DKC since childhood but, apparently, now being an adult I'm not so good as I used to be so I find the K levels extremely challenging! I can now see the full length of those god forsaken levels!
The reason they made the jumps different at 39:40 is because those are long jumps, so they made the controls slightly different than shorter jumps.
It took me a while to get used to but I honestly like it and it makes sense.
For the jump: If I remember correctly, you have to press (and hold) the jump button AFTER your vertical movement changes from upwards to downwards. It doesn't matter if you do it right after the peak or right before the bop. This have to be repeated for each enemy (you can't keep the button pressed for multiple bops).
Please do keep this a long series, and please do keep in the speedruns for the levels! This has been my favorite so far! I'm not in a hurry for this one to end.

I think most people who are in for the DK ride want the Time Attacks. This game makes those really fun because of the awesome level design. Plus, better to do it when the stage is fresh in your head, imo.

So about the time attacks: they’re necessary for full completion. You also seem to enjoy them, so I would recommend doing them. BUT! There are some things you can do to optimize your efficiency in playing the game. At Funky’s Fly ‘N Buy, you can buy a bunch of neat items. One of those is Squawks the Parrot, who as his name suggests, squawks when a puzzle piece is nearby. He doesn’t point it out or anything, just tells you it’s nearby. This could make the process of collecting them a bit faster. Also, you can buy the barrels you find the characters in, so you can have them pre-gotten on any stage that you realize might require them. There are other items as well. I wouldn’t mind longer videos, as I love Donkey Kong and your series on Tropical Freeze so far. Keep up the good work dude!
