    I always look forward to your videos.
    The information on torque converters is really hard to find. People on Pirate (RIP), would suggest a whole range of options and no one really seemed to know. I ended up going with a stock converter and sometimes it pushes through the brakes.

    I love your videos man!!! Been watching them for years. Thanks for the info and awesome wheeling vids.

    Very well put together and informative video. As a young guy who's only been on the scene a couple years, I appreciate the knowledge and experience. Look forward to the trail hero video, hopefully I can make it out there someday.

    Thanks for a great vid! I used one of those Lokar dipstick tubes, and unfortunately it leaked. Not at the junction where it it bolts to the transmission with a sandwiched top hat seal, but at the lower quick connect. There is only a single small o-ring seal inside the quick connect fitting, so on the whole it's not really a step forward from a bolt down dipstick tube.

    great video - can't tell you how many times I have replaced leaky gaskets etc... on my TH400 - very informative! Torque converter stuff would have been a great help 10 plus years ago - started with a custom one built by a drag race guy - no good at all - took me three tries in/out and ended up with a low stall intended for a tow truck... funny even the guys who build converters don't get the rock crawlers needs

    Thanks for another great vid Chris. Do you use/recommend a "holdback" or transbrake feature on your 400 valvebody? Or just stay on the brakes going downhill?

    • @chrisdesertdog2162
      @chrisdesertdog2162  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Always order a valve body that features "engine braking" for a rock crawler.

    How did you route your breather on your TH400?

      I don't get fancy like the race rigs. I run it down to the frame, back to the end of the TC, across to the driver side, then up to the main chassis connected to a filter.

    I'm putting a 5.7/th400 in front of a magnum underdrive and np205, i was thinking 1800ish stall would be low enough to crawl, but high enough not to drive through the brakes? What do you think? Also what type of valve body are you running, i would like manual control in 1st and 2nd and have it shift automatically in 3rd. Do you run any engine braking? I heard the th400 case is the weak link?? Cheers, thx for the vids!!

    • @chrisdesertdog2162
      @chrisdesertdog2162  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      factory 400 case is plenty strong for rock crawling. 1800 stall sounds good, but you will have to factor in your engine build, gearing, and tires. I run a full manual valve body, and you want engine braking.

      @@chrisdesertdog2162 thanks for the reply, love the vids. Running 40s, 538s, 4 speed magnum/205 speed transfer case, stock 5.7 vortec with sniper efi and aluminum intake.

      @@matty86suk I'm running a stock 5.3 vortec, TH400 with 2k stall converter, Atlas 4.3, 5.29s in the axles, and 40s and it'll push through in low gear unless I really stomp the brakes with everything I've got. I wish I had gone just a touch higher stall than 2000.

    • @matty86suk
      @matty86suk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@colindowns3691 yeah eh? maybe 2300-2500ish then...?? I don't want an on/off type converter, i want smooth, linear torque modulation until stall speed. Do you run full manual VB and engine braking??

    • @colindowns3691
      @colindowns3691 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matty86suk Yep! I've got a reverse manual VB and engine braking. Definitely get engine braking unless you really like stomping the brakes the entire time you go down an incline
