I just really want cinematic letterbox and QTEs to stop. I'm fine with big blockbsster style stories, just stop trying to make it look like I'm watching a bluray movie.
Michael PCG thats such an depressing yet true comment, not only 1-2 year ago was CoD the dullest color palette game and now we reach a point where we say CoD is colorful compare to game...
People used ro complain about metal gear solid over long cutscne but at least that had a solid game behind it compare to now ther not even a game there
If they wanted Arthur Conan Doyle as a character, why make him the police commissioner? Why not make him a pathologist, or even the coroner? He was, after all, a doctor, and he partially based Sherlock Holmes on Joseph Bell, one of his instructors at medical school. Actually, there was a missed opportunity to shoehorn in both another prominent Victorian and a Holmesian reference: have a pathologist, Arthur Conan Doyle, present his findings to the coroner, Joseph Bell.
That would require legitimate research. I'm pretty sure the addition of Arthur Conan Doyle was just a lazy reference so they can call themselves winking at all the literature buffs.
Step one in actually writing a strong, independent, well-designed female video game character: Do not give her dialogue where she explicitly has to point out to the audience that she is a strong, independent female character. Actions speak louder than words, Ready At Dawn. Anyhow, terrific video as usual, glad to see you still enjoyed the games while giving it the sinning it deserves. ^_^ So now that you have a PS4, I vote for inFamous: Second Son as well. It was actually one of my favorite games of 2014, but yep, that mofo sure is sinful. The biggest sins being that A. Pretty much 90% of the game's plot comes from taking a bunch of old X-Men comics & just replacing every instance of the word "mutant" with "Conduit", & B. Putting at least ten Sly Cooper Easter eggs in the game and thus almost cockteasing me to the point of annoyance.
strong independent woman is a stupid idea for women to be proud of and it's annoying. it's as annoying as a left-handed who searches for how many advantages left handed people have and how much left-handed people are good at something. and i know this because i am that left-handed person and i know how it is annoying when i act like that.
+SlyDante Theres nothing wrong with being a strong, independant woman who doesnt take shit- anyone who says otherwise is an idiot. But the writing for this game for her was....off. I personally thought it was okay, but you know. Still was off.
well an maybe make her acknowledge the difference between her an men , like she has to put some extra weignt into her efforts because well biology? also women who stood out in military context historically well i would not call em beuatiful, most likely a genetic mutation but there was for example a german women who became a well reguarded sword fighter and defended her hometown on the walls witha great sword but hell she was no beauty over and over covered in scars and realy muscular
The QTE at the beginning of the game has no consequence for failing. The guard just continually pushes Gallahads face into the water without a game over.
Normally I hate the other "sins" type channels or the ones that kinda use the cinemasins formula, but your humor, voice, and writing are so close to theirs I cant help but love this channel
This game had so many good ideas (like knights and trying to make vampires and werewolves cool again - damn you to hell, Stephenie Meyer!) and they goddamnly fucked it up! Majority cutscenes and tons of QTEs - bleahrg. Typical. The next generation of consoles perfectly displays the next generation(s) of humanity: dumb and dumber...
VisualGourmet wrong more like they don't want open budgets anymore, spend less make it half ass get double or triple amount back with little effort. Or waste all on advertising even though game is total balls.
The lore of this game is what kept me playing, more than the gameplay. The idea of the Knights of The Round Table being made immortal was appealing. But, the gameplay. . .
These continue to be well-thought, and very enjoyable. Thank you ! (Because I'm pretty bad at managing my subscriptions, I've only recently realized I wasn't subbed to you. Mistake fixed, and sorry, I'd have done it sooner had I known.) You made a pretty good point with so-called-badass female characters. Writing a hardboiled, quipping action girl instead of a distressed damsel doesn't amount to much, when it's only replacing a cliché with another cliché... Now, I'm not saying that this type of character is always bad (there are ways to tweak this trope). And Isi's far from being the worst example of it. What kills it in her case, I think, is that the player is hit over the head with proof after proof of her « badassery » upon minutes of first meeting her. « Hello here's my character, and yes that's the only character I'm going to get. » It's like CD Project starting their game with a sex scene, so as to 'plant in your mind that ; at the very least [the hero] must enjoy [his partner's] company'. I feel like their might be other ways to introduce a character (whatever gender they might be) especially if the player is bound to see them often over the course of several hours of gameplay. (Also 4:29 made me laugh out loud. Brilliant payback.) I'm glad to see someone went to the _Mass Effect_ School of Elevator-Based Exposition... I've always found said scenes extremely cheesy. I love it when they happen. I'm less glad about of the iconic lines from _Blade Runner_ being lifted. :( Keep up the good work ! I'll be looking forward to _Catherine_...
MrsHalloweenJack Thanks for subbing MrsHalloweenJack. And thanks for the well thought out comment. Subs like you make reading the comments an awesome experience.
Just out of curiosity, if a women in a video game is a strong, independent woman, why is it so bad when they're helped by one of there close friends when they're injured badly?
Also, why does everyone hate steampunk? Is it because whenever its done, its done way over the top? Because I like steampunk. I think its stupid when games and movies are so super extremely fantasy and I hate it when settings in the future are so super technologically advanced that you wonder why nobody has invented telekinesis yet.
I don't think it's time for mummies to have a comeback. I'd prefer to see more trolls (not the kind of trolls from Troll 2 or internet trolls, but REAL trolls, from Norse folklore. You know, like in the movie Troll Hunter)
16:13-16:20 you should've dubbed that scene with the dark knight rises; "WHERES THE TRIGGER! WHERE IS IT! it would've made the the joke even more funny in my opinion.
If i had to guess, when Galahad says "all devices off" it's so that the sonic payload doesn't create some wonderful feedback loops with their comms systems, which appear to be what they proceed to turn off. Have you ever heard what happens when you start messing with those sorts of things? Rather unpleasant.
This game wasn't all that bad. It had decent AI, definitely not bad. It was even brutal at times. The story was cliché and half-assed but it was enough for a shooter game. They were trying to set up a world and they did it but at the cost of satisfacting their customers. Voice acting was top notch. Gameplay was really smooth and simple, not boring either. But the 5 hour length and that fucking ending is unacceptable for a 60$ game. Especially if you take the God-awful QTEs that were everywhere into account. I think this game is good but it has too many flaws. 6/10. If it gets a sequel, I'm 80% sure that it will be great.
Personally I liked it. I don't mind short games as much as other people as long as they make the most of their time. I'm hoping The Order gets a sequel to improve on what they have.
John Riley "Brutal" Ai does not equate to good AI. Just because it can kill you doesn't mean that it's well designed. The problem is that half of the time it was just a shooting gallery. I mean, at certain points there will be catwalks or other narrow areas that enemies just funnel out onto, you shoot them all, a few more pop out, you shoot them....
Dude, the AI is shit as fuck. Lycans charge back and forth from the same place and do fucking nothing else. They made the shotgunners annoying as shit but it's not a good AI. It's just charge and keep shooting. An AI like that is shit.
I'll admit, I didn't have the highest of expectations when approaching your work at first, but you've certain proved to do a pretty respectable job on these. I'll say I find it a little trying to follow through with watching a full, 25 minutes or so of witty nitpicking, but warranted I've got the time to kill, they're usually manage to stay entertaining, keep up the good work man. ... Now, warranted you're open to it, could I share an idea for a future episode? Kingdom Hearts, just about any of the installments. I'm a small time fan of the series, it's okay overall, but they deserve a good thrashing for what they've done trying to put their convoluted plot in line, and also for the generous amount of people in the fan base who actually take a Disney / Final Fantasy crossover franchise seriously. It satisfies a laundry list full of character and plot cliches, it invents it's own where it's not borrow those of others; characters who die almost always get resurrected offscreen in the next installment; there's a plethora of shameless Disney cameos that have little to no bearing on the actual plot; dialogue that sounds like it was written by a 6 year old with an extend vocabulary; quicktime events; the list goes on... It's a veritable gold mine of sins, definitely worth your at least your consideration.
Slug of Borg Thanks for giving my vids a chance, Slug. I'm happy that you enjoyed them. I might consider doing the Kingdom hearts games though I would likely do them as a lead up to KH3.
sinning the game bc of an “empowered woman” bc that’s not realistic/historically accurate to the sexism in the time period, then sinning someone for being racist 😭
12:44 I fail to see how this is new to video games or media in this day an age, i feel like the tough as nails lady that doesn’t take shit has been a well established cliche long before. For god sakes Princess Liea is that trope to a T. She talks tough shit yet every time needs to be saved by the male characters or protected somehow. We never see her lead on the battle field either. Point being, this is not some newly invented trope as some people make it out to be
9:52 Since you brought it up, would you consider doing videos for the Metro series? It would also be funny to throw in a bonus round for all the copies of the Metro books scattered across the levels (not to mention the posters adverts).
It's Nikola, not Nikolai Tesla. After your mentioning the history thing I didn't really thought you'd mess up this hard. Overall really nice video. Keep up!
game with fictional characters doing unbelievable fantastical feats, with mythical monsters but alittle bit of equal opportunity is what is harped on as unrealistic. *eye rolls to death*
'Elementary' Um...that's a statement used exclusively in MOVIE versions of Sherlock Holmes. It never shows up in any of the books. So Doyle the author is known to use a catchphrase from movies of his character made LONG after 1886. They didn't know or care did they?
@Dartigan I had to double check, but I think you used the term "Cold Opening" wrong. Cold opening is usually in reference to where the game, movie, show, media jumps into the action immediately before the title card is shown. This practice I also hate, starting with X-men 2 on Genesis where as soon as you turn on the system you're playing. Same with many games now a days where as soon as you start the application, you're in the game with no starting sequence, no options.. just go.
The lightning gun is theoretically possible to aim by shooting a ionizing beam through the air first, then launching the electricity to follow the path of least resistance.
19:07 Contrary to most entries in Vampire Fiction, simply stabbing a vampire is ineffective. The only sure-fire ways to kill a vampire are fire and decapitation.
5:32 I agree, at the very least mummies should get another comeback or some other monster should get some love tons out there. 10:01 The penis rendering was on par with with the one Rockstar did in the Lost and The Damned and cast my vote for infamous, keep it up!!
This game was bad, made even worse because it's hard not to wish the gameplay was on the same level as the graphics. The writing is only passable, the plot is the definition of a dead horse, and the ending leaves so much unresolved, it made me too bitter to even consider getting the sequel. It is unwise to bank on a sequel when one cannot even put in the effort for a strong foundation.
YOu gave the exact same description to the werewolf fight as AJ, and he uploaded the review few hours ago, so I guess these fights really are like that, quite a shame
Apothecary2 True it's not pure QTE but why put the dodge prompt in there at all. Its like the developers think you couldn't beat the boss without which is a big part of what makes it annoying. Either do it fully one way or not at all. There was no reason to include the dodge prompt, it really messed up the pace of the action.
6:35 - This word was more commonplace at the time for everyday usage than it is today. 6:43 - Yes they did 6:55 - Considering how War of the Worlds was not written for another 11 years in this setting you may have to wait. 7:01 - They did. Horse-drawn carriages were still a thing 8:01 - It's almost as if these are incredibly important and influential people at the time so they had to be addressed
6:34 Steven Brand (Commissioner Doyle) couldn't reprise his role as the vampire hunting Scottish bad-ass, Alexander Anderson of "Hellsing"/"Hellsing Ultimate" fame. +100 sins "You will be cut down like a straw, trembling before my wrath! Aaaaamen!"
9:55 That dude was just having sex. Does he hold the world record for fastest erect to flaccid transformation? Not that I wished it was at full power, but having him just pull out to get and gun and it being so flaccid was just jarring.
Actually, I think the knights don't live for centuries. Yes, they maybe live longer thanks to blackwater but they aren't original knight of the round table...just their succesors.
"Trust me on this one." ROFL "Trust me on this one, too." Holy F***! Well, now you have a point of comparison. Wait... what about TellTale's Game of Thrones? I think you need to investigate this Dartigan. ;)
Sorry, dude. But steampunk is NOT the worst genre of fantasy, far from it. I personally love steampunk games and movies. I personally don't understand that hate for this game, I thought it was great and had an awesome story. Bioshock Infinite didn't have a brothel scene in it, btw. So not all steampunk games do that.
Why so much hate? Mainly because AI is shit, gameplay is plain, full of QT events(useless ones a lot), only 6h(for a 60$ game!) and most of it is cinematic. The game have good graphics and that's it... It tried too much to be a movie and not a game. This game should have been like Ryse on Xbone, released at the same time of the PS4 to show the capacity of the PS4 in term of graphics, but now it's a little bit too late for that since it has been pushed back so much, so yeah it get lot of hate. Edit: I commented before watching the video, even Dartigan compared it to Ryse! Nice :3 haha
I've tried many times to like steampunk fiction. I've read multiple books and comics and a few different movies and games, and the genre just doesn't do it for me the way cyberpunk did. I mostly enjoyed The Order as well and I hope they get a sequel in order to improve upon it. Is Bioshock considered a steampunk game? I thought it was more dieselpunk.
Nine years ago we got to see the template for exactly how every sony game would be from then on out, nine years and so many poor individuals have been stockholmed into believing its new and cutting edge when its been unchanged for nine whole years.
"I feel that The Order: 1886 is being treated unfairly online, as I rather enjoyed it" "This game sure is pretty, I'll give it that...and that just so happens to be the game's *only* selling point." Good to see where your priorities lie when it comes to enjoyable games
This isn't Steampunk, this is Spunkpunk: this might well have been made with the males and females having red crystal horns, dialogue consisting of the characters speaking in Banjo-Kazooie with no subtitles, and a parallel dimension of paywalls, asset flips, lootboxes, and IMVU, Koei and Konami hostile takeover schemes, even though someone enhanced with Thieves In Time jiggle physics owns the parallel dimension with Dynasty Warriors enhanced with Nanomachines.......Son. The point is that is game COULD, YES, COULD, have been something worth something more than just enjoyable mindlessness, this game is just like the second coming of Munch's Oddysee, re-visualized: The story in both games is lackluster: in Out-Of-Order 1886, however, it's just a fapfest circlejerk of over-applied anime tropes and cliches which just Ryses to the topic when and where is deemed necessary. However, in Munch's Oddysee, the plot is just dumbed down to a insignificant easter egg hunt, instead of the, oh, I don't know, ORIGINAL plot which focused on saving the queen of the entire Mudokon species among other cut aliens and GENUINE development, that 'High Definition' game retooled from the X-Bone Neo isn't even half of the complete shell, a shell which I personally would want to see before the ashes set root. Possibly after Oddworld: Soulstorm (Two. Years. Of. Null. it has been since it was announced), painful, truly painful, yet pails in comparison to the 1998-2001 wait time. I. Had. To. Endure
he's making fun of people who call everything racist also the whole apple thing started because draco malfoy would eat and apple after being an asshole after that it became a running gag
You could've made a bonus round counting all the QTEs. The sin score would've skyrocketed.
So the game Order 1886 talks about the Whitechapel (aka Jack the Ripper) murders despite the actual murders taking place in 1888?
*ding*
***** It alternative history mate, it has knights of the round table in it for god sake.!!!
True. Although comparing alternative history to actual history does make the story a bit more fun to analyse.
+Gamepopper101 Oh weren't you paying attention? The police officer clearly said "Jack *and* the ripper murders". Jack *the* Ripper is someone else entirely :P
+Gamepopper101 Weren't you paying attention? The police officer clearly said "Jack *and* the ripper murders". Jack *the* Ripper is someone else entirely :P
This is why games shouldn't try to be movies. They are different types of media entirely.
I just really want cinematic letterbox and QTEs to stop. I'm fine with big blockbsster style stories, just stop trying to make it look like I'm watching a bluray movie.
Dartigan Also, Call of Duty is a rainbow compared to the color palette of this game.

For the sin at 9:58,Check out Dante's Inferno. The last boss fight features a very well endowed Lucifer.
That may be the greatest sentence I've ever read about a game. That should be the line they put on the box for that game.
It's honestly impressive how well-endowed he was while fighting buck naked in the eternally freezing pit of Cocytus.
I pray for the person who had to animate that endowment

I think it's a thing you either can or can't do
〈insert catchy name〉 plus he actually has good criticism
1 more sin, Jack the Ripper's first victim was killed on 1888 not 1886
The QTE at the beginning of the game has no consequence for failing. The guard just continually pushes Gallahads face into the water without a game over.

This game would've been so much better in Co-op. Also, the length was far too short for a game that has no multiplayer.
The last monologue ("I've seen thing...") ripped off Blade Runner so much. Surprised that didn't get a sin.

Since you brought it up, would you consider doing videos for the Metro series? It would also be funny to throw in a bonus round for all the copies of the Metro books scattered across the levels (not to mention the posters adverts).
Im gonna have to go for Infamous Second Son
As far as CinemaSins ripoffs go, this is pretty well done and don't have an annoying voice :)
Please do Infamous second son !
Way to fuck up a cool setting, dev team. Great work.
24:25 - I was expecting a "Blade Runner rip-off" sin there.
Steampunk is if the world was without electricity. (Instantly debunks the lightning gun.)
5:31 Holydamn I love how ripped off by this werewolf he sounds🤣
It's Nikola, not Nikolai Tesla. After your mentioning the history thing I didn't really thought you'd mess up this hard. Overall really nice video. Keep up!
Short, a bit dissapointing but damn the game is impressive in visuals and damn interesting. Can we get a sequel confirmation already?
This game was received very poorly, any chance of a sequel is long gone
Aaaand there’s a sequel coming for ps5
Aghm... Nikola Tesla :D :D :D
Awesome vid as usual! :3
game with fictional characters doing unbelievable fantastical feats, with mythical monsters but alittle bit of equal opportunity is what is harped on as unrealistic. *eye rolls to death*
Don't Know if this has allready been mentioned on this great video but the Ripper murders took place in 1888 two years after the game is set.
When Galahad interrogate the poor sod, it looked like the same scene from Watchmen when Night Owl punch the biker
'Elementary'
Um...that's a statement used exclusively in MOVIE versions of Sherlock Holmes.
Same with many games now a days where as soon as you start the application, you're in the game with no starting sequence, no options.. just go.
🤓
The lightning gun is theoretically possible to aim by shooting a ionizing beam through the air first, then launching the electricity to follow the path of least resistance.
I like the steampunk setting... just wish it got better games and movies, Not you know... this and wild wild west.
There was also "Damnation" which featured parkour cowboys riding gravity-defying motorcycles and shooting machine guns.
19:40 Holy shit, did they just use the Bioshock 2 theme song intro?
19:07 Contrary to most entries in Vampire Fiction, simply stabbing a vampire is ineffective. The only sure-fire ways to kill a vampire are fire and decapitation.
9:28 thats the guy who plays the Master of Lake Town's servant, Alfred, in the hobbit.
I just thought of this. Why is the Knight's of the round tables base not consecrated?
Amazing video as always. Please make a video on Infamous: Second Son.
5:32 I agree, at the very least mummies should get another comeback or some other monster should get some love tons out there.
10:01 The penis rendering was on par with with the one Rockstar did in the Lost and The Damned
and cast my vote for infamous, keep it up!!
Traffic jams were problems pre-car era. Ancient Rome, Victorian London or 1900's Boston all were famous for gridlocks.
They are not qte bosses and I don't know why people say that. It is third person melee combat but with a command prompt to dodge.
You didnt metioned the obvious Blade Runner reference at the final monologue of the vilain...
6:35 - This word was more commonplace at the time for everyday usage than it is today.
6:43 - Yes they did
6:55 - Considering how War of the Worlds was not written for another 11 years in this setting you may have to wait.
7:01 - They did. Horse-drawn carriages were still a thing
8:01 - It's almost as if these are incredibly important and influential people at the time so they had to be addressed
6:34 Steven Brand (Commissioner Doyle) couldn't reprise his role as the vampire hunting Scottish bad-ass, Alexander Anderson of "Hellsing"/"Hellsing Ultimate" fame.
+100 sins
"You will be cut down like a straw, trembling before my wrath! Aaaaamen!"
Great vid, and Infamous Second Son please.
9:55
That dude was just having sex. Does he hold the world record for fastest erect to flaccid transformation?
Not that I wished it was at full power, but having him just pull out to get and gun and it being so flaccid was just jarring.
18:20 - ish
Are you referencing the SPECTRE of Mass Effect?
I think he means Spectre from James Bond.
I think you need to investigate this Dartigan. ;)
This video is entertaining, but you really need a high quality microphone mate.
Please do Infamous second son next.
10:09 just like me when I play Widowmaker or Hanzo
Yeah, I still like it, though. *Shrugs shoulders*
noaxian knight yeah, but it doesn't deserve a 60$ price tag... Thats the biggest issue imo...
No it's the worst...
3:42 crazy, he called it
If ever there was a deserving page for Patron its this guy.
1:21 why did he say ohhh?
Did u use some footage for Galm's LP.
when he made the joke about Nikolai tesla i thought my name was being adressed.
I've noticed the "Steampunk" sin in a few of your videos now. Why do you believe that Steampunk is the worst genre in science fiction?
did all three of you gaming sin channels decide together to sin the order: 1886, or was it coincidence? not that i care it's a good video.
Nine years ago we got to see the template for exactly how every sony game would be from then on out, nine years and so many poor individuals have been stockholmed into believing its new and cutting edge when its been unchanged for nine whole years.
1 sin to Dartigan for using the Xbox achievement unlocked sound at the end of a video for a PS exclusive.
"I feel that The Order: 1886 is being treated unfairly online, as I rather enjoyed it"
"This game sure is pretty, I'll give it that...and that just so happens to be the game's *only* selling point."
Good to see where your priorities lie when it comes to enjoyable games
Mario Party 10 has pretty mixed reviews, but actually looking at these I think it's gonna be a great deal of fun :-)))
Forgot to sin the fact that a fully priced game on release ($60) has, at max, 5 to 6 hours of game play.
I’d love a steam punk Sherlock Holmes game one day or a normal Sherlock game based on the rdj movies.
I. Had. To. Endure
I wasted about 20 minutes in the beginning of chapter 5 because I didn't know you were supposed to move on the ship.
Nice as usual but you should bleep the swearing.
8:51, Frenchman is not a race, duh
And whats wrong with apples?
#BananasAreTheBest
he's making fun of people who call everything racist
also the whole apple thing started because draco malfoy would eat and apple after being an asshole after that it became a running gag
7:02 1886 was the birth year of cars actually...in Germany, but the correction still stands
24:25 painfully obvious Blade Runner reference *ding*
