And also i don't know if you do but if you were to encounter soldiers that were actually on campaign and not just garrisoned this is around about the time you'd start seeing khaki, the british were actually pretty early in that regard.
Absolutely, though, interestingly, khaki wasn't quite standard issue just yet and you'd see a variety of campaigns dresses, such as Indian and English Khaki, grey, even white, in some rare cases
Thanks for mentioning the trigger discipline thing. Most people dont know the '4 rules of gun safety' were codified AFTER WWII. Just look at any training film or real footage from before then, boogerfingers on bang hooks galore! It takes me out of historical films/media when characters are doing the low-ready sling and have their fingers laid on the side like theyre holding an AR. You can tell immediately that a modern weapons instructor did the consulting and training.
My pet theory is that Korea and Vietnam introduced it due to the rising value on individual human life and the use of conscripts (probably following the experience of loss of life outside of combat in WW2). I haven't done any serious research on it but we know that by Vietnam it was being drilled into recruits.
@@jonathanferguson1211 Thank you for your insights and confirmation on this, ive noticed the same. I think any criticism of people in the past no matter how valid or academic really irks some folks. Makes productive discussion more difficult than it needs to be.
Definitely. Criticism of the military in general doesn't go down well. But as you say, the evidence is overwhelming that "this is my safety" was just not a thing for most of history.@@sergeantbigmac
Apparently not. Just been doing a bit of digging, and "straight finger" trigger discipline wasn't officially taught until the early 80s (commonly attributed to Jeff Cooper, as was the 4 rules. I'm actually guessing that the militarie never bothered because drill sgts were there to scream at anyone who messed up. But the changes in the 80s were due, I suspect, to the explosion in popularity of military-style weapons in both law enforcement and, most importantly, civilian hands. Suddenly you had loads of people with full-auto rifles who had no formal training, and no-one watching them, so gun safety and trigger discipline suddenly became VERY important. That's just my little hypothesis, though.
I was researching late 19th/early twentieth century sporting weapons for an RPG, and though I'm not working from memory I seem to recall there were a number of three-barreled hunting weapons. But none of them were just shotguns - they were either two shotgun barrels and a rifle, or two rifles and a shotgun. The theory being that sometimes you'd find a target of opportunity and/or an angry predator and need a quick shot with the other type of weapon.
Yes, it's a German concept called 'Drilling'. We covered the CoD iteration of the Luftwaffe M30 Drilling previously. I consciously excluded those but perhaps I should have mentioned them.

It's been a while since you guys did a hunt video, and this reminded me of that. Many new variants and weapons since you last covered it, that could be fun.
I'm gonna still campaign for Metal Gear Solid 2/3 for as long as this series is ongoing 😂 The fact that you guys have only done MGSV (the one MGS game that uses made up firearms) & not the earlier ones is criminal in my opinion. Plus there's tonnes of codec/radio calls regarding the weapons in MGS2/3 respectively & it'd be interesting to hear how accurate they are with their information. If you did wanna go through all of the calls it'd definitely be a longer episode I imagine but I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see what Jonathan would make of them, especially considering they're early-mid 2000's games in comparison to a lot of the more recent titles you tend to check out. 👍
Would be nice if Jonathan could take a look at all the newer additions that came to Hunt Showdown. Like the Martini Henry Ironside, the Drilling, the Nagant Officer Carbine or the Vetterli Cyclone.
The thing about the thermite gun is: thermite doesn't need to be dispersed in oxygen. That's the whole point of thermite. It's probably worse if you break it up like that.
Here I have a suggestion: The weapons of Timeshift. There's also concept art of the weapons that you can view in the main menu after you finish the game so he should get a look at that too since it offers some explanation on the weapon designs.
Yay! Others should be the newer Deus Ex games for cyberpunk-ish guns, Homefront: The Revolution for their transforming guns, and Darkest of Days for historical vs future guns!
I remember when I first saw the trailer for this game and thought I was the coolest game ever. The storyline is just so flipping cool! After having played it multiple times it really is an amazing game. I wish we got a second one and Jonathan you truly are in for a treat. I wish I could play it again for the first time!
The Order 1886 is an enjoyable game, shame it never came with settings in order to disable the letterboxing or film grain because graphically it holds up really well I'd say.
I will not apply the term expert to myself in any way shape or form but as a bit of a uniform 'buff' I can state with some confidence that those should be Home Service Helmets (which are the same rough shape/form but black with gold chinstraps) or bearskins, dependent on the regiment. The scarlet tunics are right though. The fact the poor sods should (in theory) be wearing something along the lines of 1871 pattern valise equipment also means that theres a lot of tlc needed to look after that leather post a dip in what looks like a sewer.
Everything about that game from the atmosphere and lore, the steampunk tech and worldbuilding, the grounded approach to monsters and alt-history Victorian era. Its biggest crime was it was basically a tech demo for the start of the last console generation and not a fully fleshed out game. But it was just plain cool and its been stuck in my mind more than it has any right to.
Now that our hero Rossen42 got his wish, let me start my own petition by absolutely using the legend's phrase: I really want to see Jonathan break down the guns from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
I they aren't going to go all out with the borchardt and make it more fancy/embellished, then just make it accurate. I agree that the "borchardt drawn from memory" was a misstep.
i only vaguely remember this as a underwhelming but pretty launch hype title for the PS4. Which i never played because shooters and controllers and stuff. The memes are lost on me.
21:01 Probably talking about the Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle, which is a Modern Shoulder-Fired Weapon, sort-of akin to a Rocket Launcher. The main difference is the fact that the projectile is Not self-propelled. It's loaded from the back, with the Backblast Cone rotating around the Longitudinal Axis of the Tube.
I haven't played the game, but design and atmosphere have always looked appealing to me. I like Gears of War for its gameplay and this game seems to share some of it. I think I'd be able to find it at dirt cheap nowadays. Would you recommend a playthrough?
Pushing as always for you guys to have Jonathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well. I have been posting for you to do this in every video a year back now.
Honestly this game was awesome, it’s such a shame we never got any more missions or even a second game. It was fantastic and the weapon diversity was ace considering we only had about 6 hours of gameplay!!! Proper blast from the past, great video
One problem but also cool thought is their bochard was designed before smokeless powder Cool idea of how to make a self loading black powder gun That may be why it is chunkier with some assembly to counteract fouling Possibly similar to maxims idea of chemicly solving fouling but the design advanced further
On the Duellist Revolver - Wasn’t there a Lefaucheaux pinfire revolver that had two barrels and 20 rounds in the chamber? On the Thermite Rifle - My older brother told me it would be improbable for thermite to form a dust cloud after breaking upon impact, due to the very high density of the compound; thermite needs to be concentrated in a small area in order for the intense burning to be highly effective

I do appreciate that the one person still thinking about The Order: 1886 was doing it purely to baffle a firearms expert with its bizarre designs.
@Rossen42 is a man of focus, persistence, and sheer will.
Would be nice if Jonathan could take a look at all the newer additions that came to Hunt Showdown. Like the Martini Henry Ironside, the Drilling, the Nagant Officer Carbine or the Vetterli Cyclone.
Beyond impressed at the graphics.
The graphics, lore, characters, setting and attention to detail were great. This game deserves a sequel!
The thing about the thermite gun is: thermite doesn't need to be dispersed in oxygen. That's the whole point of thermite. It's probably worse if you break it up like that.
The editor dropping in the “about time!” Clip at 0:41 is just 👩🍳💋👌
Here I have a suggestion: The weapons of Timeshift.
YES!!!! Finally I was seeing people post that this should happen and it's finally happening.
I really enjoyed this game, was actually really good fun to play. Story was good too!
This is what dedication brings you.
Ready Or Not is having its full release in a few days, you should do a follow up video with new/missed guns
I would very much like to!
The termite rifle i always say is pellets cover in thermite and ignited the pellets when they cover the target or zone
I would like to see Johnathon break down the guns from "Darkest of Days"
I would love to do this one :) Big time travel fan and I actually really liked the game for all its flaws.
Here it is! The moment we've all been waiting for! Now, do we have to wait until next Christmas for a Receiver 2 episode?
I'm actively binging the other episodes in this series. This timing is perfect.
So glad you have finally done it, their persistence finally gets paid off.
Rossen42-He’s the hero we needed but didn’t deserve
I never played this game, but I'm very happy for all those who were asking for this!
I’m going to miss Rossen’s posts.
That guy I have been seeing asking for this in the comment section for months must be totally overloaded with joy 😂 good vid as always
You're doing guns from movies now?
The Resistance franchise would be great, great vid as always.
Now that our hero Rossen42 got his wish, let me start my own petition by absolutely using the legend's phrase:
I really want to see Jonathan break down the guns from Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
I'm here for you
@@Rossen42 Aw, you're the best, thanks! Now nothing can go wrong!
One of your best commentaries.
The Wait Was Worth It!!!
I they aren't going to go all out with the borchardt and make it more fancy/embellished, then just make it accurate.
I agree that the "borchardt drawn from memory" was a misstep.
That one guy who always wanted 1886 finally got The Order he was waiting for!
This was such a fun episode!!! Its awesome seeing a weapons expert react to weird weapons
Do the guns of Cruelty Squad please!
"When you set your mind to something, you get results, I like that."
Fun fact, to my knowledge the Luger drum is basically the mind rag on drum scaled down and adapted to the Lugers grip feed
The mandragón?
Yes I didn’t catch the autocorrect
I would love to see Jonathan to look at the guns from the Killzone series!
i only vaguely remember this as a underwhelming but pretty launch hype title for the PS4. Which i never played because shooters and controllers and stuff.
The memes are lost on me.

Probably talking about the Carl Gustaf Recoilless Rifle, which is a Modern Shoulder-Fired Weapon, sort-of akin to a Rocket Launcher.
The main difference is the fact that the projectile is Not self-propelled. It's loaded from the back, with the Backblast Cone rotating around the Longitudinal Axis of the Tube.
Order 1886 was such a good game. Shame the sequel will not happen.
I haven't played the game, but design and atmosphere have always looked appealing to me. I like Gears of War for its gameplay and this game seems to share some of it. I think I'd be able to find it at dirt cheap nowadays. Would you recommend a playthrough?
I tried and tried but the camera and moving in that game was awful, just plain awful. Maybe a good story but couldn't play it.

@@kimmosaarinen2780 I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for the heads-up.
He finally did it. The mad lad actually succeeded.
The thumbnail has me dying 😂
I'd love to see Jonathan react to the guns of Receiver 2, the attention to detail in that game is insane
Pushing as always for you guys to have Jonathan cover Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and to cover the M8 and MRI Caseless specifically as well.
I have been posting for you to do this in every video a year back now.
I hope you get your wish granted as well mate. May 2024 be yours finally
Well, give it a few more years and anything can happen. Good luck my friend!
I've been thinking about it for a while but never commented. I think it would be neat to see Jonathan's take on the crazy future guns of Warframe.
"He Is a Man of Focus, Commitment and Sheer F*cking Will"
Hey. Johnathon called me a boomer like a year ago. I feel like I deserve to get my XCOM weapon review. Love this series guys keep it up
Im so happy this man got the credit he deserved for his literal years of effort
Honestly this game was awesome, it’s such a shame we never got any more missions or even a second game. It was fantastic and the weapon diversity was ace considering we only had about 6 hours of gameplay!!! Proper blast from the past, great video
Rossen42 waking up today: "the mission, the nightmares...it's all over"
One problem but also cool thought is their bochard was designed before smokeless powder
Cool idea of how to make a self loading black powder gun
That may be why it is chunkier with some assembly to counteract fouling
Possibly similar to maxims idea of chemicly solving fouling but the design advanced further
Would be neat to see Jonathan take a look at Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader. Not your usual kind of game, but it's got plenty of guns.
A criminally underrated game. We could've had so many sequels to this
Hey, at least it's not Call of Duty 59...
This is Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of our channel alive
Most disappointing game 🎮 lol, somebody has been wanting 1886 for like 1886 days 😂😂😂
dude spent more time writing comments for Order 1886 then the amount of time it takes to complete the game
God the order had so much potential, I remember playing multiple times and getting upset that it wasn’t longer.
The graphics were so pretty too
On the Duellist Revolver - Wasn’t there a Lefaucheaux pinfire revolver that had two barrels and 20 rounds in the chamber?
On the Thermite Rifle - My older brother told me it would be improbable for thermite to form a dust cloud after breaking upon impact, due to the very high density of the compound; thermite needs to be concentrated in a small area in order for the intense burning to be highly effective
About the revolver, there was. IIRC some Lefaucheaux 20 shot revolvers were used American Civil War.
Yes! Bit of an oversight on my part there. I think I got fixated on the mashup of revolver with Lancaster.
@@jonathanferguson1211 Always nice to see you commenting here. Btw, you should do Sleeping Dogs game sometime, it may focus a lot on melee fights and whatnot but the game has few each of these: handguns, shotguns, smg's and assault rifles.
Also: there is Definitive Edition of that game, not that it matters that much but you can see the details of the guns better in that.
Sleeping Dogs was awesome - I had the original edition though. They should have made a John Wick game along the same lines. @@kimmosaarinen2780
It would be really cool, if you would make a video dedicated to Resistance series
Jonathan is just an all around cool dude. Id love to pick his brain on some opinions of his regarding gaming guns
Fire away :)
