Did this yesterday, just reflowed the existing solder joints and it works perfectly now. The disassembly was easily the most challenging part in the whole process, really hated those clips in the dash.
Thanks for that. Nice to see TH-cam recommended a video that's useful for a change. I assumed the LED segments were dying on my mum's 2010 Civic (1.4 i-Shift) as they did on my Blaupunkt Canberra display from the early '90s, only on the Honda some days the entire display would light up as normal and other times and after driving for long periods some of the segments were gone. I didn't think of pressing the surroundings to see if it made a difference as you did. When I have the car back and have enough time, I'll deal with the dry solder joints on those pins just as you did.
I added solder on each pin. It was very hard, as my eyesight is average and my soldering skills are less than average. However, all done, and it works perfectly and no more missing segments.
Great vid brother. This helped me a lot. I thought it would have been ribbon and not through pins like this. I am about to try this thanks to you. I am an experienced at soldering soo.... Not sure what flux you used but the stuff in the syringe works best. The pen and brush on stuff just not half as good simply. Using that alone would have been enough to reflow the existing solder effectively. Yeah sorry too say, much solder you used. Tbh I was surprised it worked, I thought you may have bridged a few near the middle there. Not critical as it seems to work great. Nice! A solderphile would suggest to remove the solder using copper braid and putting new on but not needed. Hot air would work the best if you lucky enough. Iron is fine tho. I would reccomend not adding solder for a first try at lest. Good stuff 👏🏻 👍🏻
Nice work 👍. I'd love to have seen you puing the display out. I had this problem and was going to do the resoldering but I felt if I pulled any harder something would crack.

Hey mate, thanks for the video. I have just repaired it with re-heating (no-addition). Worked 2 weeks and then again missing segments. What do you suggest ? Should I add more solder with solder flux ? Since the area is so small, I am concertful with damaging the pins. Thanks for the support ;)
Hi, yeah I really think more solder is needed. They used the bare minimum with this thing when making it! The small pins make it tricky but just take your time. You wont damage the pins but you can solder pins together, which is obviously not good. If you do this then suck the solder off and try again.
First test result: all 100%! But the display issue is inconsistent (sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't), so time will tell if it stays ok 🤞 Fwiw: I only melted the original tin (didn't add any, as it was too small) Tnx again
Does yours popple and crackle before you fixed it occasionally? When I drive for long periods I would get the display issues you have and then loud pops and it kept turning itself on and off again.
I have the issue you describe, strong popping sounds and radio turning off and on by itself, very annoying - i usually turn it off from the Fuse. Sometimes it works months without issues, sometimes it does it every day.
@@TheHahavia Yeah, I replaced the whole radio unit with a "new" one and same issue remained, even after soldering too. I'm thinking it might be something to do with the actual cable itself? But that's way above my paygrade lol

@@alexivanov9652 I've got both these issues so I'm hoping ops advice solves it. The radio popping in and out seems pretty random. It can happen after driving for an hour or almost as soon as car is started. I'm gonna try this and hope it sorts the issue 🤞

Going to need to do this myself soon, but need the car quite a lot. Will removing it impact driving the car in anyway whilst I find the time to resolder?
I fixed both my speedometer and radio display just by reheating the pins. The speedometer is much easier to do since there are fewer pins and distance between them is more generous and there is more solder on them. Remains to be seen how long this fix will last...
Are all the segments faded the same? That might indicate a different problem, like perhaps the backlight. Does adjusting the dashboard light dimmer make it brighter or darker?
@@VynZography I adjust the dashboard lighting by turning left or right the trimming button in the left of the dashboard. I can see adjustment. But when i select the brightest option, the segments are not illuminated as they were illuminated in the past. The adjustment occurs on ALL segments at the same time. Do you think the problem is on the backlight? It it easy to access and check it?
