A student eye witness has come forward, accusing several students of the murder and saying he was threatened into silence by the students families, who had connections to police and FBI, and the school themselves. Hopefully something comes of this.

I can't believe the punishments for speaking their native language at the residential schools, let alone all of the other punishments for just being indigenous. I'm trying so hard to teach my kids Welsh so that it doesn't die out just like all the other schools in Wales, although I live in the US. It just boggles my mind that the sacredness of anyone's native language are treated so lightly and, indeed, horrifically, especially by the indigenous of the North Americans and South Americans. I was even taught Qetchua when I lived in Bolivia when I studied abroad because it was so important to keep.

My grandmother can’t sleep without the lights on because she is scared she will wake up and be back in that place. Natives rarely mention this tragedy and I was a grown adult before I ever heard of it. Its an outrage and so recent that those abuses are extremely relevant. The native community in my area are working hard to repair that damage and I have extreme respect for them. As horrible as it was and the damage they tried to inflict on those families I admire the strong family ties they display confounding many.

Cole Harbour High School had morning classes for the white students and afternoon classes for the black students. If you look into Nova Scotia’s past you will see that the province seethes with racism!

No, it happened in Canada too. So many horrific stories & many died. My grandma & everyone else before her went to the schools. My grandma’s toe was broken when a Nun hit it with a walking stick in class because she spoke Cree. She slapped her for crying too. They didn’t treat her the toe had to heal on it’s own.

I’m First Nation.. and I know so many elders that went to the residential schools, and my grandma told me a story, that one night, one of the sisters woke her up, and told her to put on her clothes, she asked why but she got mad at her and told her not to ask questions, she put on her stuff, and she gave my grandma a bag, and it had 2 cats in there, she told my grandma “Go throw this in that fire” because they made a fire outside especially for the cats, my grandma said no, but she strapped her.. so my grandma went outside face running with tears, she said if my grandma didn’t throw the cats in the fire she would get I don’t know how many straps, the traps were made of thick pieces of tire... *more of the story in the comments*

Number three was a difficult one to process. The kid stabbed the officer yes, but he wasn't mentally stable as per witnesses. While I totally agree that those incidents are terrible and worthy of such a list, they're pretty straight forward and well known cases, just like the Virginia Tech Massacre that was referenced in the larger point about subsequent incidents at VT. It seems like this list was highlighting lesser known and, in some cases, more mysterious events. Another similar incident like the ones you mentioned would be the University of Texas at Austin shootings by Charles Whitman, who climbed a tower on campus and killed a number of students. It was really the first widely known school shooting to have happened; However, it's only the fifth most deadly school attack worldwide. An arson in Kenya had 67 victims, followed by the Bath school disaster in America where a school was blown up with 45 deaths. A terrorist attack in Nigeria on a school claimed 43 lives, then we have the Virginia Tech massacre with 32, Sandy Hook with 28 (I think?), before arriving at Whitman's 17. Columbine probably ranks about the 8-9th deadliest behind the Montreal Nursing Student deaths and a few other events I can't recall. Most school attacks tend to result in a single death, if that, thankfully. Of course, it's the bigger tragedies that grab our attention.

At the time, memory recall therapy was big, and it was common for psychologists to blame behavioral issues on abuse, so they would ask leading questions and the children would accidentally create false memories of being abused or they would make things up out of fear of disappointing adults or because the psychologists would insist they were abused and they would start to believe it. It is 2019 and they still haven’t charged anyone in Kendrick’s murder. They have a suspect and if you look into the case, all the facts are there.

number 1 irritates me so badly. you pretty much caused the death of 15 woman just because you couldn't put religion aside for 10 seconds. it could have very easily been prevented.

Cole Harbour High School had morning classes for the white students and afternoon classes for the black students. My grandma’s toe was broken when a Nun hit it with a walking stick in class because she spoke Cree. She slapped her for crying too. They didn’t treat her the toe had to heal on it’s own.

I’m First Nation.. and I know so many elders that went to the residential schools, and my grandma told me a story, that one night, one of the sisters woke her up, and told her to put on her clothes, she asked why but she got mad at her and told her not to ask questions, she put on her stuff, and she gave my grandma a bag, and it had 2 cats in there, she told my grandma “Go throw this in that fire” because they made a fire outside especially for the cats, my grandma said no, but she strapped her.. so my grandma went outside face running with tears, she said if my grandma didn’t throw the cats in the fire she would get I don’t know how many straps, the traps were made of thick pieces of tire... *more of the story in the comments*
My grandma really didn’t go much into to detail.. because she gets very emotional talking about it... but.. she did it... she never wanted to.. but they would have abused her... and.. Number three was a difficult one to process. The kid stabbed the officer yes, but he wasn't mentally stable as per witnesses. So the officer seemed to have acted to save his life and the life are others... Why is that a "wrongful death"? Seems like a sad but justified shooting?? What a grey area, man...

While I totally agree that those incidents are terrible and worthy of such a list, they're pretty straight forward and well known cases, just like the Virginia Tech Massacre that was referenced in the larger point about subsequent incidents at VT. It seems like this list was highlighting lesser known and, in some cases, more mysterious events.
Another similar incident like the ones you mentioned would be the University of Texas at Austin shootings by Charles Whitman, who climbed a tower on campus and killed a number of students. It was really the first widely known school shooting to have happened; However, it's only the fifth most deadly school attack worldwide. An arson in Kenya had 67 victims, followed by the Bath school disaster in America where a school was blown up with 45 deaths. A terrorist attack in Nigeria on a school claimed 43 lives, then we have the Virginia Tech massacre with 32, Sandy Hook with 28 (I think?), before arriving at Whitman's 17. Columbine probably ranks about the 8-9th deadliest behind the Montreal Nursing Student deaths and a few other events I can't recall. Most school attacks tend to result in a single death, if that, thankfully. Of course, it's the bigger tragedies that grab our attention.
