- Ravens flew and dragons sored high across the seven kingdoms of Westeros and Queen Rhaenrya sent forth her two eldest sons to forge alliances to the north and south, before her half brother King Aegon ii could send decrees of his own. It was not to be a easy task for the young Jacerys and Lucerys Velaryon, with the trips full of danger but they were almost men and there mother needed Princes to talk with her lords and win there support.
This plan would work well for the Queen until Lucerys flew to storms end to meet with Lord Baratheon, only to find King Aegons brother, his uncle Prince Aemoned, Aemoned one eye. tensions would run high only a spark was needed to set of the powder keg and turn this war of words into a war of blood.
The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on Geroge R R Martins A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

If your here because of house of the dragon and are upset about spoilers all i will say is this video is over a year and a half old and came out well before house of the dragon based on a book that has been out years, it was made to tell the story of fire and blood in the style of the animated history and lore videos on the DVD. Thus the audience for this video has mostly been book readers and people who don't want to read the book but want to knows what happens. While i understand the algorithm is pushing these videos in ways i did not expect when i made these videos yes some of the titles could be seen as spoilers. Needless to say i am going back thorough all 220 of my videos and trying to minimise the impact of these videos being shown to people who only watch the show and thus spoiling them. I'm adjusting titles and thumbnails but its taking a while due to the amount of videos, i'm also being careful not to kill the video performance so i'm being carful with the changes i've made.
Love your videos... Anyone who doesn't know the plot already should stop using social media, as its everywhere.

The Title of the video is self explanatory. People should know better. Great job with the video!
Ultimately Lucerys' murder is what gave way for the bloody, cruel, and bloodthirsty legacy that The Dance of Dragons would be known for as family members started targeting each other for payback starting with Blood and Cheese.
But it didn't start with B&C it started with Aemond thinking he can control Vhagar and tries to bully Lucerys. They both thought they could control their dragons as Arrax blasted Vhagar with a fireball after that Vhagar stalked Arrax and in one bite he ripped right through Arrax. Obviously killing Lucerys and Arrax and that is the start of The Dance of Dragons.

In the show, Aemond wasn't intent on killing Lucerys..he just wanted to bully him but Arrax and Vhager decided to disobey their riders and what ensued was a tragedy..it was so sad watching the boy and his baby dragon 🐉 die.

Vhagar was a battle harden dragon from the time of conquest. You don’t use a power like that for such childish bullshit.

Well, why would she love Luke more than his brothers?.
It’s a bloody cold murder. He’s so young. He even refused to fight and went there as only a messenger and made that clear. Aemond acted more like a stupid kid. His action was the catalyst of the dance. Luke and Arrax was so helpless, it was unfair and no honor at all.
I think aemond was just messing around taunting luke. He never wanted luke dead that quickly. He lost control in his dragon when arrax spit fire on her. Vhagar got pissed.

I feel sorry for the boy. He is tasked for an errand by his mom and gets killed by his relative lol.
I can imagine his fright being chased by the largest living dragon at the time.
I feel sorry for Luce but no remorse for Rhynera mourning him. Luce was a kid but Rhynera did not even apologize to Aemond for the lost eye. Infact she used her father's blind love to get away without any consequences.
If my kid was maimed and the abuser got away without justice I'd be mad too (ofcourse I wouldn't kill him for it but there has to be justice).

i can't see a situation where he gets out alive, maybe if he ran when he first landed as saw Vhagar. I do like the theory that he survived and washed up on the shore days later with no memory and simple, kinda like moonboy. I like it but there is nowhere near enough proof in the text for it.
@@WorldOfWesteros I’m of the belief that he was either eaten (it’s not impossible but Vhagar might be more occupied fighting for his life). Or he died at sea and was so decayed that no one could recognize him. Kinda like how Catelyn is after she’s thrown into a river. And that was for like a week or 2. I’m not quite sure how long she was in but gotta be less than a month.

i did find it odd. I get they have limited in an episode but i'd have loved another 5 mins at Storms Ends.
I thought it might be due to paying speaking actors more than non-speaking. I don't know if that is true, but I thought that was something.
I can't wait to see this acted out. Aemond is a jerk and I can see him poking, and provoking Luke. This is gonna be a fire scene with the dragons, and emotional when Rhenyara finds out what happened to her son, and Deamon pledges revenge. Ohhh boy!! Great video

Whether or not the HOTD lore is canon, one thing is for sure, Prince Lucerys's death triggered the bloody kinslaying that is to follow.
For me the book cannon is book canon the show is the show, but what i like is especially with Aemond/Luke at storms end is in reality in the book we have no idea what really happened when they left Storms Ends except Aemond kills Luke. It's one of the few times i belive the show had handle it how they see fit without impacting the storyline or canon. I just hope the kinslyaing it leads to (b&c) is not watered down.
@@WorldOfWesteros Yeah, IMO the only 'weak' episode of HOTD is 9 and it is not even considered bad, at least for me.
What made me confuse is, didn't Rhaenyra lose her 3rd child with Daemon after she learned about the death of Prince Lucerys, or was it after the news of the death of her Father like the show portrayed?
@@jeeeeev If not for the ending of episode nine I would have been ok with it. Otherwise I'd still say it's the weakest episode but that's because I don't like any of the greens except Haelena and Aemond.

Out of nowhere, Vhagar swoops down with blinding speed and an open mouth and it is over. She bites down encompassing the rider which would snap off the dragon's neck and head falling to the sea.
Like jaws of the sky. You can't see Vhagar in the storm but you know she's there and when you see her, it's too late.

Made it way more intense. I love how we got small hints of Vhagar slowly catching up to them, with every lightning bolt revealing her silhouette. Really felt like a horror movie.

The Hightower house ruined everything. If it wasn't for them targaryen blood would be in every house and everyone would have dragons for when the white walkers came.
The Targaryens would never allow everyone to have dragons, the Velaryons were an exception because of their close kinship but I have serious doubts that they would give dragons to every great house. To quote the words of King Daeron II "Too many dragons are as dangerous as too few." But I admit that you were right about the Hightowers ruining everything with the Dance and their schiming.

Im not as down on Hightower as everyone else is. They did what any other house wouldve done if they had the chance. Look at how everyone was trying to wed Rhaenyra.

@@peepinR The Hightowers were too ambitious to be ruling over the Seven Kingdoms. Politicians MUST care about the good of the realm, not their own selfish desires. Never. Their selfishness at the scale they pushed for, negatively impacted the realm immensely.
Yes, that's what people would have done, that's why they are not the rulers. Aegon became ruler because he saw a large threat that loomed and saw the need to unite the realm. The Hightowers just... wanted... to be at the top. Disgusting.
It happened. Vhagar did bite Arrax into bits. Together with poor Lucerys.

I think George didn't write any story lines for strong boys as he already had daemon as rival to aemond.
This is the finale of season 1 with the final scene of Rhaenyra finding out his death.

This is what I’ve been thinking too. It’ll be the finale and it will end with Rhaenyra walking out onto the walls of dragon stone and declaring war ( the shot we see in the trailer)
A part of me hopes that Luke survived and was either too afraid to return back to Dragonstone, or lost him memory.

Something tells me Septon Eustace had a bias against the old gods. Considering he kept claiming Jace tried to sway Cregan Stark from the old gods to the seven.
Of the Greens my favourite is Aemon one eye and of the blacks Daemon Targaryen and honestly the way they went out was absolutely awesome. Also, who was Cregan’s brother I’ve never heard of him before.
Daemon and Aemon's conflict is one of the highlights of the war for me. Nothing is know of Cregan's brother other than he was younger and died in 119ac. We don't even have a name. it think it's mentioned in a single line in fire and blood. its very random honestly.

It's possible and in a way makes sense in terms of TV, however part of what makes some of the deaths so shocking is the ages of the people involved.

@@jimchop8235 Laenor is only half black (his mother is white). Laenor is also married to a white woman, so it is completely possible for their offspring to inherit solid Targaryen features. The black hair should be the give away, not their skin tone.

It’s not about whether Jacaerys would break his vow for some random northern bastard girl. The issue is if Cregan Stark would have let his sister be deflowered arbitrarily like that. In my opinion, using what we know of Cregan Stark he would’ve make the Prince pay the price no matter who or what or when

All of Rhanera's children could have survived. If she had gathered allies when her father was still alive maybe someone from pentos or dorne would have been willing to hide them. Instead, she stupidly did not gather any allies and so her sons died in a stupid grueling war that killed most of her house.
A combination of reasons played into this the madness Otto planted in alicents head that she in turn placed in her sons heads played the biggest part in it all but she was definitely dumb
Pentos did agree to hide and foster her younger sons but on the way to Pentos the ship was attacked by the triarchy. Aegon III somehow survived with his dragon but couldn't save Viserys II. Dorne on the other hand has always remained neutral in Westerosi wars.
@@connoisseur1595 Dont know if you know this but Viserys does survive and he is reunited with his brother, Aegon. Two of then survived. Three did not. Im saying all of them could have survived. If she had not let tensions brew without gathering allies to her side before Viserys died. Allicent was gathering allies tho. Ser Criston cole, Larys, Otto and Dragons. And many others flocked to her side because they believed Rhaneras soms were Illegitimate.

While I do agree with what you said but I also noticed Harrenhal would've been in Rhaenyra's side if Harwin and Lyonel didn't die. Jace did bring almost all powerful northern houses to their side, thanks to his diplomatic skills which I'm really looking forward to in the show. Jace's pact with Cregan Stark is what brought an end for the greens but it was too late for Rhaenyra. The most tragic betrayal was the dragonseeds for me during the war.

Turns out the part that matters about being a royal heir isn’t whether or not you’re a bastard. It’s which Targaryen knows how to actually fight with their dragons.
C'mon. Lucerys an TEENAGER, with an small dragon NEVER had any chances against Vhagar. If Lucerys was the one with Vhagar and the fight was a 13yo Aemond with Arrax vs an adult Lucerys with Vhagar. Aemond would've been easily killed. It's easy to know how to fight when you're riding a big animal, who had been fighting for YEARS, DECADES, mainly against an young, small animal ridden by a teenager boy

if it was my child who lost the eye I would be mad too and probably retaliate to the one who did it but if I was the mother of the kid who blinded someone I would never let her blinded my son too. Kids fight it just so happens that my kid got a hold of a knife. And it's basically Aemond who antagonizes them. If I was Aemond and four other kids ganging up on me I would definitely turn back and run but he is so cocky that he took the four of them on just because he's bigger than them. At that moment Luke just acted on self defense. Aemond is bigger and stronger and the knife is the absolute equalizer. The fact that Aemond picked up a rock to smash their heads means if it goes the other way around Aemond who'd be the one who hurt those other kids very badly.
It is hard not to be cocky after taming the greatest and most legend dragon alive especially in front of people who make fun of you of not having dragon. 😂

I absolutely love it, making aemond much more multi layered other than the pyschopath he was in the books. He may be cruel and a bit of a cunt but I love what their doing with him in hotd giving him much more nuance.

I'd say that Luke should've been captured by Aemond. Killing him was a bit much, though he WAS trying to help his mother prepare for war so, maybe Aemond was just going after an easy kill of a powerful asset. Still, I'd have captured him there and held for a ransom.

Tbh, at that point the war was gonna pop off anyways. That's why Lucerys was there in the first place, trying to recruit houses. So at the end of the day, SOMEONE was gonna have to begin the conflict. Aemond saw this as an easy kill of a Dragon rider, bastard in line for the Throne, and leader of any kind of army he would've lead in the war to come.
I argue he'd have been better captured but, I wouldn't say Aemond was stupid.

The way I see it is show is the show, the book is the book. In the book my view is the events at storms end are relatively accurate until the points the dragons lift off, there were maesters and multiple witnesses there to verify it, but when it comes to what happened in the sky the only people who know what happens are Aemond and Luke, the maesters just guess what happened up there from the outcome. To be fair I like how both the book and the show choose to handle this

@@tanoshiofm3852 There was no official law against women inhering the throne. The Great Council dismissed Rhaenys's claim because she's a woman, yes, but they considered it. The Council believed that choosing Viserys over Rhaenys and Laenor established a precedent that women claims came after men, but I don't think it was actually made into a law until after the Dance of the Dragons.
The targaryens by Tradition followed the law of Valeria which was that of primogeniture which means the hier can be a male or female as long as they are the first born child but they stopped this Tradition in order to intergrate into westeros society which did not practice primogeniture
I don't think Daemon would have just gave up on becoming king and having his line being the future's succession just like that.

There is no "why did she" it's more of "why did HE". Aemond never should've attempted this. Period. This is what threw them headfirst into the war.

They still exist, they just aren't mentioned in the show because they aren't important to the overall plot. In the books Lord Leyton Hightower rules Oldtown, and hasn't come down from the hightower in a decade I believe.
