So it's about two week later than planned but another long video covering the reign of King Maekar. This was a nightmare to render, kept getting stuck at 60% for some reason but figured it out in the end. I've added in a few minutes of content that was cut from the original series towards the end that i cut from a few episodes of the main serise, felt like it added good context.
Maekar is one of my favorite underrated Targaryens since his personality reminds me of King Stannis. I really wish he didnt kill Baelor Breakspear but he's still pretty cool. His crown is also one of my favorites, that i would've liked to see Jon Snow wear if he became king.
@@tylerchapman9234 Also could've just been the heat of battle. It can happen where sheer instinct took over and he just hit him harder than intended. Either way RIP Baelor Breakspear.
Yet they all screwed up one way or another. So Danaerys who really doesn't know anything, plagued by "dragon dreams" she doesn't fully understand, along with Quaith invading her dreams as well, is the only one left to unite Ice and Fire before she goes nuclear mad.
should be Stannis reminds you of Maekar john Snow one of my favorite characters , in book and show will and would never be king , but good you have a great imagination 😜
I’m so glad he was further explored in the Dunk and Egg books. He was a skilled warrior and a loyal defender of his family. His main shortcoming seems to be that he was a hard man who neglected his children because of his own shortcomings emotionally, but he wasn’t heartless. After the disaster of the Ashford tourney he realized he had to take his family in order. He exiled Aerion to Essos for a few years, did his best by Egg by honoring his request to squire with Duncan, and seems to have even tried to help Daeron by arranging a marriage and mentoring him more directly-although it was already too late if it was possible to help a man so tormented by visions at all. When he took the crown he kept a firm hold on the realm after all the unrest and discontent under his brother’s reign.
He didn't neglect his kids he spoiled them hense why areion was such a little shit because he was a spoiled prince who got what he wanted thats why he let aegon be dunk's squire to be humble and good .
He was a very bad father. That was a big plot point in the Hedge Knight. Aemon came out well cause Maekar sent him to boarding school, and Aegon came out well cause he gave him away to some homeless illiterate mercenary.
@@Mersault26 Aegon turn out great too he let his son live like commoner to see what they see and basically have a great respect for them. Too bad King Aegon small council were very hesitant in doing those reforms.

@@badyoutuber1986 Now, obviously plunging the realm voluntarily into war at ANY time is bad, but Daeron I’s war was I’d say at a reasonable point. Dragons were gone, a boy sat the throne, and it had been 25 years since any real war. Daeron I successfully projected strength in a time many would-be monarchs would have been sidelined. Now, Daeron I objectively was a bit of an idiot, but hey, feudalism loves strong men kings.
When I looked up at 11:37, and saw the picture of Daeron I didn't think Daeron, I thought "Why is he using a picture of John Constantine?". After looking at it for a second I realized that it WAS a picture of Daeron, but it DOES look EXACTLY like John Constantine. Even his cloak looks just like Constantine's trademark Trenchcoat...it's uncanny. FWIW.
Aside from some tiny amount of arryn blood, Martell blood, and lynesee blood, the Targaryen line has remained dominantly valerian blood, except for 2-3 doses of first-men blood .

This era of Targaryen could been the best If some of the unlikely to put events didn't happen and it steer us in a direction which cause House Targaryen to fall.
Am I wrong in thinking that Aegon the Conqueror's "Dream" as told in HOTD but not in any book thus far published, went completely skew whiff? It would seem that his idea of just giving this secret to only the next presumed person in the line of succession didn't work at all well as the tree branched far wider than he could have ever imagined and his "dreams" didn't reveal that or that the Maesters would actively suppress "magic". It is indeed a very tangled web GRRM has weaved, so tangled he is still trying to push his way through those webs.
Not that much. I think we'll just get that the prophecy was lost after the Dance, refound in scripture in dragonstone later, and kept as a secret and transmitted carefully because of religious stability and tradition. The Faith was almost the death of the Targaryens once, and such a prophecy would have a tremendous theological impact, so it makes sense Aegon would keep it a secret. As for the others, if fucking Aegon kept it a secret, why would they speak up?
This is gonna make a great show. With an awesome ensemble of characters! A young Maester Aemon, Blood Raven, Damon Blackfyre, King Maekar, Bittersteel! And another vile Targaryen to hate in Aerion! Can’t wait!!!
i suspect it's one of those things that have been glossed over in TWOIAF because George maybe at the time intended for a lot of the missing info we have to come to light during dunk and egg the time to finish them.
Yo, i noticed a clear cut between the second and third chapters where the video plays, then black, then the next chaper starts playing, it's minor but am just so used to it all being seemless that something like that was something i quickly noticed.
Thanks for letting me know, i fixed it best i can in the youtube editor. It's really odd as on the project timeline all looks okay so i guess it was maybe a error in the rendering process which would not surprise me.
If we are talking about the great council of 101, In the show it was, but in the book it's between Viserys and Laenor, one of those odd changes from the book the book i think they made just to make the Great Council of 101 easier to get across on TV without loads of lore. Maester Aemon Jon Snow, he "Took the Black" to keep from being used in his Family's politics. Now I know what politics he was talking about. He was one of 7 Heirs. He knew that he would never be King & sit on the Iron Throne. So he would only be useful for political reasons.
Im pretty sure Aegon the Unlikely became king because Bloodraven orchestrated it. So many heirs had to die to make Aegon the King, he knew Aegon would be the best King and this explains a lot of the weird deaths... Bloodraven was into sorcery and could warg into people he probably killed most of the heirs in Aegons way to ensure he would be the main dynasty that births Azor Ahai
