All I want from Blizzard nerfing cards are for them to balance them instead of gutting them. Sometimes it's unavoidable to basically remove a card from the game with the likes of a mana nerf but I always think back to something like Warsong Commander and why it couldn't have been a 2 mana card after the nerf instead of being an pretty much unusable card or why Patches couldn't have kept charge as a battlecry (Obviously because of Shudderwock but that wasn't clear at the time.).
Never I think that comes down to the nature of card games. They can't balance hs like you balance wow or DotA or whatever. They have very little nuance available to them, as the most common solutions are increase this by one Mana. Like Hunters Mark. Which has already been nerfed, mind you. The smallest way to change it without changing it's identity is to increase it by one Mana, and that effectively killed it.
@@chrisaraujo1110 Except that they do have nuance available in the form of adjusting the stats. When they nerfed giggling inventor, for example, they should have buffed the 2/1 body to 3/4 or even 4/4. It would still be mostly useless for quest rogue, but more attractive for other decks that wanted to play it. Little tweaks like this holds true for almost every nerf into the ground that Blizzard has done.
Remy Lebeau yeah, but there's very little nuance in that either. Take your giggling inventor example. It wasn't killed because it went to seven Mana and was now understatted. It was killed because 7 Mana is now too late in the game for control to wait, with too many answers on how to deal with it efficiently and too expensive for aggro and mid-range. Giggling was nerfed because EVERY deck slotted it as a 5 drop. I still use it (albeit one copy rather than two) in my mega greedy Luna pocket Galaxy mage deck, but I contest that if they made the stat changes you suggested it still would have been a dead card at 7 Mana. I'm less certain at 6 Mana though
@@chrisaraujo1110 But you are only criticizing the value or viability of my stat change, not the overall logic behind the counterbalance that is available to Blizzard when they nerf something into the ground.
Remy Lebeau You're right. Point taken. Although, the core of why I argued that example is to say that the stats didn't really matter on that card, only the Mana cost, leaving very little nuance available to blizzard without changing the essence of the card. There are other cards where I think that Mana costs matters not at all, like moshogg enforcer, but only because how its being used, and so your logic I think would work. They could make it a 10 health minion and it would still see play (probably lol). Interesting stuff though
tracking is a powerfull draw card that has an uncommon effect: "draw 3 cards from your deck, yet you may only keep a single one of these; discard the others". If you think like this, tracking will not only grant you a single card that you may be needing at this time, at the cost of discarding 2 cards that may be irrelevant for the moment, so screw them, but will also mitigade the drawing process towards finding a certain piece that you need but still haven't drawn (call it the death knight or spellstones). All this for only one single mana. One more thing (this one will be irrelevant) but spreading plague was a must have for druid, this class has barely no board clear so it would grant this class a way to survive wide aggresive boards. The problem was that this could buy enough time for druid to find its COMBO pieces - wich is at least *MY* main concern - and dont forget about mossy horror. For the next expansions i hope that HS has less infinite value generation like hunter's DK does and no combo/otk/exodia BS.
My only problem with the way the nerfs are heading is that mostly cards from the clasic set are being nerfed, while "seasonal" cards are being let off the hook. It would have been more impactful and diverse to the meta to nerf core cards to most of the decks (on top of my head right now, Baku and Genn). Most of the decks in the first 2 tiers utilize those two cards. Blizzard sadly is nerfing the clasic set in such was that it becomes more and more dependent on the actual/future expansions, which again will be rotating out at some point. The "penniless player" is forced to pick out a low tier 1 / tier 2 deck (which yes they are pretty costy) just to be sure they didn't waste thousands of dust (cost of most decks nowadays). However let's say that if a player chooses a better deck it will be most certainly nerfed in such way that the refund the players might get would be insignificant.
And just when Penniless uploads a new vid, Blizzard announces the specialist mode, at this point I'm not only excited for his content but also the fact that Blizz is gonna update Hearthstone right after he does so
Ya. Obv Control Pally is still going to play Equality. What else are they going to play, are they just going to cut Pally's only board clear? But the nerf to the card sinks the deck.
I think Subject 9 and Master's Call were the power behind the throne for Hunter. I've always imagined a sorta spectrum of card draw: on one end, you have classes like Priest and Rogue who can easily draw lots of cards, but a lot of cards are weak by themselves and need to be part of a combo. On the other hand, Hunter and Shaman were at the other end: really strong, high-value cards, but you better make them count because you have so little ability to draw cards. Except suddenly Hunter could. Especially with Subject 9. Drawing five secrets by itself is nice, but the real benefit is now that's five fewer cards in the way of drawing that sweet, sweet Deathstalker (which can put even more cards in your hand!) It might just be a reach but I think there's something to be said for how Hunter and Shaman were on opposite ends of the tier list for a while, and Hunter had been getting better and better card draw while Shaman still has to run stuff like Far Sight and Mana Tide Totem if it wants any card draw.
I have to disagree with your argument that zul'jin is not so relevant as it appears. It does everything between giving a chance of winning otherwise lost games or instantly winning a game that is being strongly disputed on the board. Zul'jin, if played correctly and on the right deck (which, by its turn, must be correctly built) creates a swing on the game SO STRONG that other comparable cards can't match even at the peak of their performance, like Gul'dan, Ultimate Infestation, Anduin, or any card you want to compare. No card in the game can create as much tempo, as much threath or as much value. This card does everything on its own and instantly.
I disagree with YOUR argument lol. Maybe it's unfair based on time the cards have had in play, but I've lost far more to dkrex than I have to big Daddy Z. Yeah zuljin has tempo, but if I'm playing a control deck against a deck I know it's running Zuljin, I've rarely lost to it, because I can counter what tempo they've gained with board clear. Which brings to me to my second gripe. No. Not more oppressive than Guldan at the height of cubelock. I'm sorry but a few wolves and secrets don't compare to 4 voidlords and two doomguards plus life steal lol
@@chrisaraujo1110 yeah, it's based on the cards played. That's the whole point of the card. Also, invalidating one card because there is one counter to it is stupid reasoning, and it doesn't bring back whatever zuljin killed nor secrets it discovered or played. It's a swing card, can't compare it with control.
ramonestefano Lol Im honestly not even sure what you're saying... So I guess I'll just say that not one counter. A whole bunch of counters. Warrior currently runs four such counters in their deck, as does priest, and mage can handle the swing and usually gain the armor back while theyre at it. The point I'm making is penniless is right that zuljin is less impactful than rexxar. And I think we can compare them. Rexxar can turn Hunter into a control deck on the fly, while zuljin cannot. Rexxar>Guldan>zuljin. IMO, anyway
@@chrisaraujo1110 it doesn't matter the counters you have for the board fill. Zul'jin clears the board, fills your hand, dumps secrets, you can't counter that.
You missed some components of why Deathstalker Rexxar didn't help enable Hunters in Standard earlier than it did. 1: His pool of available Beasts in Standard had a lot of chaff until the Year of the Raven rotation such as Princess Huhuran, Rat Pack, Silithid Swarmer, and Pantry Spider. 2: Until Witchwood Lifesteal on Beasts wasn't a thing outside the 5 mana Bloodworm. 3: Charge was (and still is) only available through Boar, Rhino and (with luck in Wild) Armored Warhorse. 4: Rush didn't exist until Witchwood. 5: Very few bad Neutral/Hunter Beasts costing 5 or less have been introduced in the Year of the Raven. While he did still provide solid value before the Year of the Raven, it was merely solid and value which is generally not enough for a card to help push a deck. Until Witchwood a highroll on Build-a-Beast was something like Exploding Bloatbat + Stubborn Gastropod or Boar + Flappy or Hydra.
I feel that hunter was like brawl meta knight, it was so strong that the meta was (kinda) based around on how good you were in the hunter matchup I dont want to say that the level of hunter was comparable to the level of brawl meta knight, but it was opresive enought to make some decks lower tier
While it's good to see you accepting feedback about your liking and disliking opinions and deciding not to force people to feel like trolls for disagreeing, guilt tripping them into not disliking because of a super dramatic and airquotes relatable insecurity pity plea isn't exactly a step up. Reno Hunter is still juicy. Mech Hunter is a solid aggro deck in Wild and if I remember correctly Kathrena got strong after receiving Witchwood Grizzly. Also, have you changed your opinion about Spreading Plague?
Peniless, do you think odd pally would be more tame by changing the empowered hero power? Maybe it is the base with a [choose 1] with 3 options. 1- Give this recruit +1 attack 2- Give this recruit +1 health 3- Give this recruit taunt (Might could get away with a few others, but idk. 1 thought being lifesteal, another being spellpower)
@@spidery7618 You're right deadly shot may be a good pick. I swapped out hunters mark after the nerf and it does feel like it's lacking some good big target removal. Although it's hilarious when people play right into the perfect Crushing Walls
Tracking is good because its basically a cheap search. you get to see 1/9 of your deck and search it for the small cost of 1 mana and 2 deck slots. It is consistency at it's finest. And anyone who plays yugioh can tell you, consistency is king.
I paused to read that essay and i've got to say the arguments are illogical and ridiculous. To claim that one should be immune from all criticism unless they ask for it is downright absurd, no person has a right to not be criticized even if they don't want any critique, these aren't professional critics who do this for a living, these are people with an opinion, simple as that. If someone did not enjoy a video, they have a right to dislike the content, and if they dislike said content, they have just as much right to portray that dislike in whichever method they choose, and some choose the dislike button. It's simple, fast, and it gets their point across. They aren't trying to leave some deep critical essay about what's wrong with the video, they're simply saying they didn't enjoy it. If you go to a movie theater and watch a movie that you don't end up liking, are you not allowed to tell people that you didn't enjoy it unless you write an analytical essay about why it's bad? of course not, that's ridiculous. Moving on, claiming that dislikes inhibit a viewers pleasure is downright idiotic. To begin with the dislike bar is so insignificant there are very few people that could possibly be influenced by it, but more over, the argument is ridiculous because you could use it for literally any negative criticism. "Oh, you wrote a highly analytical piece on why this work is bad, along with a list of several legitimate problems with the work? Ah, well you're just inhibiting the viewers pleasure by giving them a negative view on the work". Am i saying dislikes are equivalent to actual criticism? of course not, but my point is the basis of the argument is ridiculous, as if applied to anything else it's absurd. Overall the dislike button exists for people to make their opinions known. Is it effective? hardly, but that doesn't matter. the dislike button lets a viewer know if most people enjoy or dislike a specific piece of content, and in that sense it's no different from a viewer score on rotten tomato's or anything like that. People shouldn't be required to write a 2 page essay on why they didn't enjoy something, and just like how people can leave x amount of stars on a movie and leave it at that, viewers can choose to leave either a like or dislike based on what they think about the work. I don't even know why I decided to spend like 10 minutes writing this since you don't even agree with what you wrote but I just thought i'd put this out there
I think secret hunter is still good but you need it to play a little different now with turn 1 and 2 plays. I also think when people see nerfs they stop playing the deck completely. a 6 mana 12/12 looks still pretty good to me or am I wrong ?
Hey penniless, as a druid main (with a penchant for playing off meta deck archetypes) would you be able to do a video on the outlook for druid post it's December nerfs please? I'm just not enjoying the game as much anymore as I have little to no chance against almost every major archetype and I can't afford to craft enough cards to change to an OTK deck or different class. I need to know if you think there's hope for the classes identity. Thanks Edit: to clarify I would like to know what direction you think blizzard will/should go in the next few sets to make druid fun to play with and against.

Don't try too hard to live up to Yahtzee Crowshaw and other YT golden boys. Your insecurity makes sense, considering you've been sponsored now, but emulating someone else will harm the delivery of your jokes and make your presentation feel insincere. People will pick up on that, even if they misattribute what they're picking up on to something else, like ego. Instead you should focus on your strengths, and the style that made you popular in the first place - earnestness and dedication. It's better to do what you're already comfortable with than to half-heartedly attempt humor that you can't fully commit to. I'm not disliking, cause I don't think you've gotten bad yet, and I genuinely still like your videos. But I can see something shifting, both in your vidoes and in the comments, and I thought I should provide some insight. I might be wrong - you might not be emulating other TH-camrs (especially not conciously). But something is different, so you should at least remember to stop and take a breather every now and again. (You don't have to take a break from videos - literally stopping to take some deep breaths can help calm your mind and reset your focus, which can make all the difference sometimes.)
Somehow I can't cope with the fact that you discard 2 out of 3 cards with TRACKING. Often times at least 2 vital ones come up that I'd badly need later in the game. I feel that it's such a high price to pay for that one card to come up 1-2 turns earlier. And then maybe there's nothing that you can use now anyway.
Hmmm, a paladin main making a hunter video....I'm sure this will be fair and balanced. Hunters mark is not hard removal...a minions health must drop to 0 to be removed not 1. Hunters mark requires another card to remove a minion.
Personally, I found the insult for people disliking the video quite funny. For me, it´d be the logical conclusion of the annoying "PRESS LIKE AND SUBSCRIIIIBE"-yeller who also tell me what to do. Exaggerating that and including "like good, dislike BAAAAD" just seems to be the next logical step However, I seem to be the only person who took that as a joke. Even given this, I am still surprised that people think that saying "if you press dislike you are a bad person" actually stops anyone but a 12-year-old from doing it. But then again, this being the youtube comment section already implies that the majority are 12-year olds so I also see where they are coming from. Keep having fun creating the videos, they are preeeeeety good most of the time!
I can somehow understand you, as i think a dislike does not really gives you helpful information. For example I very rarely dislike a video and only if the content is undeniable bad. A like at least tells you that people like the video in general and you can continue with that. On the other hand a dislike does not tell you anything about why the people did not like you. And critique shound always contain the reason. So i think a comment, saying what you dont like is way better than just pushing that dislike button and leavon the creator with no clue.
I think some of the dislikes are new viewers who see the word "Theory" Inthe title and expect some theory like The Game Theorists make, but instead they get a video about meta and changes. Theory online has been used for something like lore or upcoming unrevealed updates. So the way you use theory is new to people, and dislike because they got "clickbaited". (Even though they didn't)
"Midrange Hunter" is an aggro deck, curving out on turns 1 and 2. Secret and Spell Hunter are anti-aggro decks, they beat aggro but lose to control, similar to how anti-control decks like Quest Rogue beat control but lose to aggro. The only true midrange Hunter deck is Deathrattle Hunter, which always lost to aggro, as a midrange deck should.
Having 1 and 2 drops doesn't make a deck Aggro.I bet you think Zoo is a Aggro deck as well but no,it is a Midrange deck.Midrange means can both play Aggresively and Controll heavy.Of course it is going to have 1 and 2 drops.Midrange decks rely on tempo most of the time. And if the oppenent is controll deck they obviously will go to face. They can't win the late game against controll or combo decks.Aggro and Midrange decks fight for the board because they can't come back once it is lost.
Like/dislike is a rating. Do we agree with video? Did we like it? Being your subscriber for around a year, enjoying mostly everything you share with us and suddenly 180 degree I am stupid troll coz 1 dislike.
I really don't like the attitude of being heavily influenced by the last two years of metas and ignoring the history of hearthstone. Tracking had years of being bad due to being just the wrong tool for the wrong class. Never considered a staple or a powerful card. Yet you just ask us to accept its high power? I lose some respect for your opinions/analysis at that point You also ignore the concepts of class types and how much they've changed. Midrange dies to agro? Stats say that isn't really very true, partially because a few years ago midrange hunter was a vastly different deck. I mean savanna highmane is often cut for being too slow. The whole speed of the game is different and midrange hunter acts as and aggressive deck (agro being distinct from face decks). Thus making the outdated rule of midrange beats control, control beats agro, agro beats midrange, false and outdated. (saw someone else in these comments call deathrattle hunter the only true midrange hunter has and I think that's an interesting take and probably true.)

Will you hate me if I said I start main hunter because I received deadstalker rexxar when knight of the frozen trone come out?
No, why would we? Play whatever you want
Flanking strike: *exist*
Pennless: *wryyyyy*
And just when Penniless uploads a new vid, Blizzard announces the specialist mode, at this point I'm not only excited for his content but also the fact that Blizz is gonna update Hearthstone right after he does so
I couldn’t relate any less to that start. WE WERE RIGHT, BOYS.
Drawing five secrets by itself is nice, but the real benefit is now that's five fewer cards in the way of drawing that sweet, sweet Deathstalker (which can put even more cards in your hand!)
It might just be a reach but I think there's something to be said for how Hunter and Shaman were on opposite ends of the tier list for a while, and Hunter had been getting better and better card draw while Shaman still has to run stuff like Far Sight and Mana Tide Totem if it wants any card draw.
Well said. Midrange hunter wouldn't be so disgusting without the insane draw of Master's call.
IMO, anyway
@@chrisaraujo1110 if you are not sure what I'm saying why are you even trying to make extraordinary points anyway
@@chrisaraujo1110 it doesn't matter the counters you have for the board fill. Zul'jin clears the board, fills your hand, dumps secrets, you can't counter that.
Idk what you're smoking but Hunter's still in a good place my guy
Woah give us more hardcore penniless please.
I feel that hunter was like brawl meta knight, it was so strong that the meta was (kinda) based around on how good you were in the hunter matchup
I dont want to say that the level of hunter was comparable to the level of brawl meta knight, but it was opresive enought to make some decks lower tier
After that equality part say goodbye to proguide advertisement. Love you tho. best hs youtuber
While it's good to see you accepting feedback about your liking and disliking opinions and deciding not to force people to feel like trolls for disagreeing, guilt tripping them into not disliking because of a super dramatic and airquotes relatable insecurity pity plea isn't exactly a step up. I will let you off this one time, 'cause maybe you didn't intend it that way, but only once. I believe in your ability to make good stuff free of like begging and all that fluff.
My intended message was to show why I made the mistake in the first place: I have deep-seeded fears of being viewed negatively. That entire skit was basically me trying to say "I have this insecurity, and I shouldn't." No guilt trip was intended, but I can see how it could be perceived that way.
1- Give this recruit +1 attack
2- Give this recruit +1 health
3- Give this recruit taunt
(Might could get away with a few others, but idk. 1 thought being lifesteal, another being spellpower)
And here I am, running quest Hunter since the start of Rasta.
Thoughts on my decklist?

Maybe put in Deadly Shot instead of Crushing Walls? The latter feels a bit too expensive imo
@@spidery7618 You're right deadly shot may be a good pick. I swapped out hunters mark after the nerf and it does feel like it's lacking some good big target removal.
Although it's hilarious when people play right into the perfect Crushing Walls
2:49 - For a split second, I thought penniless had grown eyes! :O
Tracking is good because its basically a cheap search.
you get to see 1/9 of your deck and search it for the small cost of 1 mana and 2 deck slots.
It is consistency at it's finest. And anyone who plays yugioh can tell you, consistency is king.
Penniless do a video on the failure of the warrior enrage mechanic they keep alive for some reason
I like how his whole dislike essay has typed errors, so I'm gonna like this video.
Thanks
Edit: to clarify I would like to know what direction you think blizzard will/should go in the next few sets to make druid fun to play with and against.
Yay, Penniless got a sponsor!!
Can you explain why shaman was brutally murdered?
Wild maybe? Even was SUPER strong
Yea, it was more for Wild bois. Even Shaman was brain dead automatically playing itself deck with SICK winrate. (4) 7/7, (0) 5/5, (2) 3/4.
@@wuj0-themanthemyththelegen856 Wait, 0 mana 7/7? Or did I misunderstand what you wrote?
Jozko Krssak -> oOf. Sorry, to my defend it was late and my brain did not recognize mistakes. (4) 7/7 was what I wanted to write (and to be honest, I really thought I did xd).
Please cover the horrible murder of kings bane, the only thing that brought me joy in life T^T
I'm still running into plenty of hunters and I really hate it. I'm rage quitting now more than ever on turn one and especially after a bad mulligan. I filled a warlock combo deck with almost all healing cards and removal, and I was still getting beat by hunters.
Great video well done
Does anyone feel like this dudes ego is getting unbearable? In the videos prior to this he just calls himself awesome for his pridictions and treats the hearthstone community like unwashed morons for questioning changes. At first I though he was just joking but it's seriously taking away from the content I'm actually here for, Hearthstone Theories.
In this video alone calls people children for disliking videos, I know he says he likes playing devil's advocate but that just seems a way for him to deflect criticism further and play it off. It's your channel and you can do what you want with it but I seriously hope you don't let your content suffer to the point I can't will myself to watch what you put out anymore as the content itself is great.
nah lol
Just dislike
Have you SEEN the assholes on the rest of YT? Penniless is comical, self- aware and unique, and ofc brilliant content.
@@Embara I like his content but the dude can be p damn insecure.
That's also something that always bothers to me when I watch his videos.
I like the content but I don't like his personality, what a shame.
If you hate flanking strike, do you also hate zilliax? Its an even bigger swing card imo.

Highlander Hunter enters the chat
Hay man quest hunter is a solid tier 2 deck...
Wait I missed these December nerfs, probably because of Smash Ultimate. Is it too late to get my dust?
i thought only Un goro was going out next expansion ? i'm not sure how HS expansions work. i remember when i got on HS for the first time, there was three expansions, then four, then five and now six, i almost thought they were going to add up
Hey great video man :)
RIP my secret hunter deck.
Time for Mech hunter
please, stop talking about dislikes, most of us don't dislike your videos, but still have to listen to that.
I rember when all people say DK rexxar was bad and me... a little boy main hunter since open beta crafting it golden day one of frozen throne , worth it
I still miss 2 mana equality

The Rise and Fall of Hunter (To the second best class in the game).

He is talking about standard
2:50 is it bad this made me want to dislike?
No, not really
You should put a link to a content at the beginning for everyone to be able to skip the crap, not related to the subject
Hmmm, a paladin main making a hunter video....I'm sure this will be fair and balanced.
Hunters mark is not hard removal...a minions health must drop to 0 to be removed not 1. Hunters mark requires another card to remove a minion.
Tracking is hunter few draw card that why it used so much.
Bring back the graph!
3 minutes before the contest started
11:45 remember when elemental shaman worked?
Personally, I found the insult for people disliking the video quite funny.
For me, it´d be the logical conclusion of the annoying "PRESS LIKE AND SUBSCRIIIIBE"-yeller who also tell me what to do.
Exaggerating that and including "like good, dislike BAAAAD" just seems to be the next logical step
However, I seem to be the only person who took that as a joke.
Content is fine but i cant stand the whining about dislikes when i just came for theory, unsubscribe dislike and bye
So i think a comment, saying what you dont like is way better than just pushing that dislike button and leavon the creator with no clue.
penniless, you dont get less money just because you get a dislike on ur vids tho right? Gonna support u by pressing dislike :))))
Weird that midrange hunter still is tier 1 isn't it?
Yeah i remember that it was a tier4 budget deck
I think some of the dislikes are new viewers who see the word "Theory" Inthe title and expect some theory like The Game Theorists make, but instead they get a video about meta and changes. Theory online has been used for something like lore or upcoming unrevealed updates. So the way you use theory is new to people, and dislike because they got "clickbaited". (Even though they didn't)
I quit the game because of frost lich jania but I still like watching your videos
Hunter is broken. I took an unranked account to rank 7 so far in one season with just a beast hunter deck
The Fall of Hunter after me crafting a secret hunter deck ;)))) i deserved it
"Midrange Hunter" is an aggro deck, curving out on turns 1 and 2.
Midrange means that they have the tools for both aggro and control. Your comment is just plain wrong.
@@_knighted Penniless claims that it is the role of Aggro to beat Midrange, which I agree with though not in a normative sense.
Am i the only one that is waiting the next expansion just to see the hunter die?
Why is literally a large majority of the comments not about the video but about the dislikes.
Man i hate the internet sometimes.
You must be knew here. Ha ha
I honestly kinda like the Hunter nerf. It makes it weaker, but still good.
Not good enough when they still have Rexxar, Zul'jin, and Master's call.
BR Guldan is arguably as strong, or stronger than DS Rexxar in his own right.
I lose some respect for your opinions/analysis at that point
You also ignore the concepts of class types and how much they've changed.
This guy is literally jebaiting you guys to dislike the video because it helps the channel too. lawlz
Love the video, but please do not make a 3 minute introduction next time, I come for the information just as much as the humor but you were starting to sound pedantic. Please spread out over multiple videos or a post or throughout the video
