Hello! Creator of the game here :) Thank you for featuring my little game on your channel! Really awesome to see it in the wild like that. I'm glad you are enjoying it - especially your reaction to the Torch mechanic. Lighting the torch sure gives you huge advantages, but the drawback is pretty big as well. The idea was that the light and warmth of the fire are alien to the denizens of the Black City, and as such drive them into a mad killing frenzy. This was my first go at designing a game. I really had a lot of with it, and am super proud of the result. There are a few things I would improve if I ever get around to making a second edition (clarifying that you do use your character's facing when drawing your exits or - as you did - making bigger boxes for tracking HP and such), but overall, I am happy with the stories the game and the player create together! Thank you again for playing it, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! I love talking about it :) Gabriel p.s.: if you look closely, both the swarm of rats and the warmth-crazed mob deal damage equal to their remaining hp - so i'm pretty sure you actually could've beaten them ;)
Hi Gabriel, congrats on making such a cool game - I can't believe it's your first one! Yup, that torch mechanic is very interesting! And I didn't notice that about the rats and the mob - ah well! Glad you enjoyed the playthrough and keep me posted on your future gaming endeavours!
@@lone_adventurer Yeah, been binging on your videos this Saturday afternoon. Great stuff. I wasn't even aware that these types of "single sheet adventure" games existed. Or whatever the correct term is.
Had this in my itch Collection/ToPlayList but totally forgot about it! I think now is the time to finally print and play it! It's so moody and dark! Thx for reminding me, and keep on showing us this awesome little gems, I always find awesome new games trough your channel!
Totally a fun one! Basilisk - ah yeah - turns out it is one of the countless games I've downloaded! I must have glanced at it and been distracted by something else. I'll take a closer look!
Thanks for featuring this one. I knew it was right up your alley. I had the same struggles with the movement and which perspective to use! Once you decide though (I used character perspective) the rest falls into place. After several immediate deaths, I managed to get the Warm Shelter and kept revisiting it to heal. It came down to the last square, my next roll would allow me to get out, or be stuck forever... I got lucky. Loved the playthrough! I used to think that a game needed complicated rules and a massive manual, but I am loving these small games! Thanks for featuring so many of them!
You're welcome - thanks for recommending it! I'm getting a little bit obsessed with these Dark Fort games 😁 As you say - you get a lot of game with a relatively small amount of rules. They are a lot of fun and there's a lot of variety in this 'gente'!
How has it taken me this long to find these solo micro rpgs 😂. I have already jumped online and got s copy of the black city and started a game. Now watching your Dark Fort video. I think I have found my gaming niche
Oh they definitely could :) Castle Grief has got a small supplement called Knights Blood that allows you to get Dark Fort dungeons to be connected by simple overland travel. Wouldn't take much to integrate a couple of these Dark Fort hacks into it as well!

Thanks for creating this game. This is perfect for traveling.
Ive been super into these little dark fort inspired micro rpgs. Been printing them and passing them out to friends. Glad to see you do a few more!
That's cool - a nice thing to do. So easy to share with other people!
@lone_adventurer they are! Honestly perfect for it
It has now become a ritual of mine to watch every new playthrough you release. Loved this one too. ❤😊
I approve of this ritual :)
(Thanks for watching!)
Never thought I'd watch someone play a paper adventure game but this was pretty relaxing to watch.
Well I've got news for you - I've played lots of similar games here on the channel 😉
Glad you enjoyed it!

You're very welcome on all counts - thanks for watching!
This one looks very fun! Basilisk is still probably my favourite of these kinda games - it’s made by the same guy who made Solitary Defilement!

Thank you for recommending my game! Glad you liked it :)
Oh I need this in my collection!
Love seeing these games in action. thanks!
On the utility of a torch in combat, trying to fight while also having a flaming torch in your off-hand is tough!
Indeed, it makes sense when you think about it!
How has it taken me this long to find these solo micro rpgs 😂. I have already jumped online and got s copy of the black city and started a game. Now watching your Dark Fort video. I think I have found my gaming niche
You and me both 🙂 thanks for watching!!
Like and subscribe for my fellow leftie. We must resist together the right-handed oppression
Lefties unite!!
Thanks
Definitely like to see a playthrough with a party
This little game will be great for a quick play in the hotel room or airport. I prefer analog, but you could totally play this on a tablet too.
On perspective, I'd use character perspective, but rather than drawing a road I'd just fill in the square's border where there's no exit.
Huh, yeah that sounds like a good approach - good thinking!
I would start at the bottom of the map and move upward as forward.
@11:13 Well...the 30s Broadsword was within your purchasing power.....
Curses! That would have been handy!
14:57 It's not 'light Torch with Flint,' it's 'light Torch WITHOUT Flint.' So, you've kinda wasted your torch for nothing.
i feel triggering solo overland travel when stepping out of the city would be somewhat less confining
Well, all these Dark Fort games are confining to some degree 🙂 I guess you could easily bold on some overland travel if you really wanted to!
BTW...Will you by chance be doing an review/playtrough of 'Blood on the Bleak Road', the sequel to 'Dismal Armory'?
I've been reading through it the last couple of days - I'd say there is a decent chance I get it to the channel 🙂
Okay, you can't tell me that all of these can't be combined someway. XD
