- Here's a quick walk thru of the 3 of the most popular pedal kayaks on the market and their Pro's / Con's. I've been a fan of Jackson Kayak for many years and on their fishing team since 2016. I've been in almost every kayak they've made but felt it was time to look at some other options for my kayak fishing needs. I've been searching for a new kayak for nearly 4 months and finally found one that fits my style of fishing best.

Same kayak as 2 of my buddies! They’re great. I went with a Hobie Lynx for the weight savings. Congrats on the new boat! You’ll love it! Pedal drive is a game changer!!
Thanks, Drew! Very informative video. I've been thinking about an upgrade and like what you pointed about about the Old Town. 😎
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Drew. Very good review! Son bought a PPL106
Great review, thanks
Happy to share!
Thanks for the review. I’m concerned about the pedals on rivers.
Pretty cool drew, sounds like a good plan to me. Tight lines.
Been fun exploring them!
Nice to hear your input on all three kayaks. I’m looking at the Coosa FD and the Old Town PDL 120. I do like the kick up feature of the Jackson though.
The Coosa fd was my first pedal kayak. Pedaled the entire St Johns River, 360 miles 26 days...got a video on here from that trip. It's a nice kayak and that feature on the FD is awesome!
I love mine as well.
Been thinking about getting into a kayak for fishing. So personally finding out about some of the ins and outs has me thinking further ahead to how I see/want my usage to play out.... neat video
You should...I switched from a boat in 2010 and for the most part haven't regretted it. Other than dealing with wind lol! But having it with me every place I go opens up tons of fishing options!
I have the option between the Bite and the Topwater (Sportsman), in your opinion is it worth a $700 difference between the two? I can get a new 2021 Bite for $700 less than the Topwater
Imo, from a fishing platform they both are pretty similar...stable, fast, comfortable, etc. I'd say it depends on how much you value the in hull storage and other little extras like under seat, dry storage on the drive, etc. Just being able to load it like I do now has saved me a ton of time which is important to me bc I'm fishing 4 or 5 days a week. But that might not be as important to you if you're going out 1 or 2 times a month and trailer it or throw it in the bed of a truck. I do miss the ability to steer from both sides on the Jk's. And the FD is nice anywhere u might hit stuff in the water. Leaving the latch on the pdl drive unlocked helps a ton but it's still an abrupt stop when the drive collides with anything.
$2,600 US for a piece of plastic, ouch.
Old town lifetime hull guarantee. I've never been let down by an Old Town.
If you have ever have or still fish out of a kayak, Take one for a test ride..then come back.
Haha...just don't tell my wife how much they cost!
This is so much more then just a piece of plastic, not all kayaks are made the same. It took me a long time to justify the price, I wish I did it sooner, awesome fishing kayak.
