- In this video I compare two popular Toro self-propelled lawn mowers, the Toro 21 inch rear wheel drive and the Toro 22 inch smart stow front wheel drive. Both these mowers are great for smaller yards where a riding mower isn't needed, but while the 21 inch mower works well, the smart stow adds some nice features for not that much more.
Let me know what you think, which one is the one for you? I've been using the Toro 22" smart stow for a few years and still love it....to me that's the winner.

I've had both kinds of the Toro's. For years I used the recycler with personal pace drive system. Made in both front and rear wheel drive. I have to disagree and quite a number of points on your review.. It takes maybe a couple of hours to get used to the personal pace, then it's a breeze on either of them. The one I have is the first Rear Wheel drive I've had and *WOW* Does it make a difference. Since most of the weight is on the back - especially with the bagger on it) the rear wheel drive is superior. Can't tell you how many front wheel drive tires I've had to replace because they just spin and wear out quickly. No so on the rear wheel drive.. 4-5 years in now on the rear wheel drive and the wheels all around look almost as new as you can get. It does a great job. One of the best mowers I've ever had, well, except maybe when I was a kid my Dad had a Craftsman reel type mower! That had more ways to get seriously hurt than the engineers (if any) that came up with it.

The reason they got rid of the side discharge door. Is because so many of them break on the bottom of the door. It is a very weak spot on the mowing deck. I have had to weld several that have broke
Do they have PowerReverse? That would help my Arthritis in my knees. I have a 2007 Super Recycler still running but it feels like I am pushing it. Something may be wrong with the Personal Pace.

I've got a 21 recycler, but in battery, the same drive system and the mower Im mentioning has front wheel drive and 60v 21 recycler has the smart stow feature and thank god that the handles don't have those ulgy looking bolts and screws to put the hande together when I got mine the handle on the mower came already put to gether scince the company did it
What is the model in the video of 22 inch smart stow? I look the model number 21445 and 21465, 21465 price is $100 more than 21445, but I don’t know what is the different. I’m so confused.😢

I don’t like the side discharge. I prefer it all to go into the bag-self propelled. My Toro lasted 18 years! Oil change etc every 2 years. Home use only. I wear a mask though. Older people or women need the 21 inch because the heavier mower is harder on the back when hills are encountered. I store mine sitting on all fours.
I own the 22 inch and hate it . Deck clogs up with grass and starts knocking , then need to tip it over and clean deck with a scraper every time I cut slightly wet grass . It is also underpowered! I miss my husqvarna Honda engine that never bogged down on a heavy cut

We bought our 2021 Toro 22" Recycler at Home Depot for $239.99 + tax. Yup. These were as low as $219.99 before the frenzy to ban gasoline engines for landscaping.
So it's more than just Covid which jacked the prices way up?

i have had both front wheel and rear wheel drive. REAR WHEEL IS A JOKE!!! IT TAKES ALMOST 2 TIMES LONGER TO MOW WITH REAR WHEEL DRIVE AS FRONT WHEEL!!!
iT IS MUCH HARDER TO TURN WITH REAR WHEEL DRIVE AND YOU CAN'T LIFT THE FRONT UP. SPENT ALMOST $600 FOR THE REAR WHEEL AND ABSOLUTELY HATE IT.
ASSUMED THE MOWER WAS FRONT WHEEL DRIVE WHEN I BOUGHT IT. WHY WOULD ANYONE PUT SELF DRIVING WHEELS ON THE BACK!!!!
