Both of eliot's tutors early game probably should have gotten dockside. This pod folds pretty easily to portal to phyrexia. Depending on the turn, cavern hoard to counterfeit K'rrik or heliod would also be incredible. The Imp recruiter for automaton was pretty loose-magda isn't a turbo deck, and needs to be able to win through one or two removal spells. Loved the game.
Definitely expected Magda to tutor for Clock of Omens, Maskwood Nexus, then Reckless Fireweaver, but Portal to Phyrexia is pretty good too lol Edit: Posted this MOMENTS before he did exactly that lol. Note to self: finish the video before commenting!
I expected him to tutor Dockside on Turn 1. Not sure if it was play to not appear as such big of a threat, but with Dockside he could have attempted a win at any point given how it works with Magda.
felt like diabolic/demonic Tutor for final parting into Necrotic ooze + asmodeus (GY) was a fine line. Then draw for praetors grasp as the out and get some removal for artifacts from the Red/White decks on the table. ( or dig for some way to entomb scourge familiar on the way). Dont think that was a blank jsut because of grafdiggers cage.
The stack looks like this: 1. Solitude ETB targeting Magda 2. Swat targeting Solitude ETB 3. Mischief targeting Swat Mischief resolves, and changes Swat to target Mischief. Stack: 1. For a few reasons really: - Tainted Pact means you do not want multiple swamps. In fact cEDH tries to run as little basic land count as feasible. So niche lands like GMine can help. - In cEDH 3 turns is an ample amount of time. Usually the game is over by the time the 3rd counter is removed. - The flexibility of access to any mana type is extremely versatile for cards like Necrotic Ooze, Praetor's Grasp. - K'rrik (generally speaking) is paying life instead of mana, so even the need to tap GMine each turn is not required most the time. - If Jan is running dredge, extra fodder in the graveyard is cool. - Black likes sacrifice strategies. - Urborg,ToY can turn it into a swamp anyway. - It fits a strategy of power at any cost, which is thematic for decks like K'rrik. - Swampwalk while usually very rare (Solkanar or Zombie Master etc), still may be relevant. PS: Because I have not seen Jan's exact deck list yet; I'm just going from the top of my head & I am sure there are other reasons.
He opted to play Tainted Pact, so he needs to play only a single copy of everything including basics or he risks killing himself with it. It is an interesting choice, but doesn't feel correct. K'rrik really wants the colored mana and doesn't like taking damage from his lands. The extra tutor doesn't seem worth it.
jan cheated by waiting for eliot to choose the new target. he asked do i get to choose the target and was given permission. once swat resolves that is when you choose new targets. the time to imps mischief is before eliot declares his new target for solitude.
Don't targets need to be declared when swat is on the stack? Which is when imps mischief needs to be played. Once swat starts to resolve, it's too late to change targets
deflecting swat allows you to choose new targets for the spell. the only thing it targets is the spell/ability which you are trying to re target as it resolves you will choose new targets for the spell/ability. since he could have been targeting the heliod in which case the imps mischif might not have been used.... @@irt3hsaint
@@irt3hsaintyes, but the only thing Swat targets is the Solitude ETB ability itself. Only as Swat resolves, after all players have passed priority, does its controller declare the new targets for the spell or ability it’s modifying
He is playing Tainted Pact in his deck as another tutor so he is playing a bunch of different name lands so as to be able to find anything in his deck.
@@marsultor878 demonic consultation names not tainted but I guess maybe I see it…I feel like that is about as bad as you can play honestly. Just my opinion. If you had a better reason but if you are demonic for a spire of industry in a mono black deck you are already losing lol
@@MrDavidmauck Yes Demonic Consultation names but for Tainted Pact if you hit the same name twice for any card in the deck while looking, then Tainted Pact fizzles and you get nothing. I'm not saying he is right for running it especially in Krikk as you already run imperial seal, demonic tutor, vampiric tutor, diabolic tutor, diabolic intent, beseech the mirror, beseech the queen, and other more niche tutors. I'm just giving his reason.
The cage is quite good against K'rrik. Otherwise the deck can easily win turn 2 or even turn 1 with reanimate lines (Vilis or Broodlord). In cEDH scene I play in we usually expect the deck to have a turn 1 or turn 2 win ready when we are mulliganing and we are mostly correct. Heck just Jeweled Lotus, Swamp, Reanimate and Entomb is Turn 1 win for the deck on mull to 4. Also I don't know how to say it nicely but Jan doesn't seem that good of a pilot for the deck. With 2 tutors he could have easily gotten turn 3 Peer Into the Abyss with a K'rrik attack available against almost no interaction. That is like close to a goldfishing scenario for K'rrik list. Yes he might have failed since he needs some free mana and Praetor's Grasp an answer to the cage, but it was still within his power to get there and his fail case is a huge K'rrik and board full of demons and creatures. Of course the deck not being the optimized version also doesn't help when an opponent plays a stax piece that stops your loop and can't be removed by any card in your colors.
Jerry couldn't cast Tibalt's Trickery because of Paladin class
I had to pause the video to see that 22:28
So Alex won😂
Alex won this game. I call for a post-game victory mark on mono-W’s tally 🎉
Turn 1 with Ragavan is a perfect example of why you should tutor in the endstep and not lose the best combo in your deck for no reason
blud was afraid of a mindsalver or some 🗿
"apparently he thought I'd cut that" lmfao
Definitely wouldn't have cast the ballista. Leaving it exile means Sevinne's and recommission can't get it back if it hits the grave
Or what about casting an instant speed tutor on your turn against a ragavan. These aren’t the most brilliant players.
With a Magda at the table it wasn't a terrible idea imo. I think there is an argument for both.
Did you know Tibalt's Trickery can switch a video to 0.25 playback speed? There's always something new to learn about this game!

I was like, "YES, that's 5 treasures baby just cast Magda again and the Dockside you obviously gambled for... but then he didn't"
I love this new flash version of Heliod. The consistency of having four flash enablers completely changes the deck and I love it!

Hard casted Ooze beats Cage tbh.
I heard Mambo Number Gandalf and spit my coffee all over my monitor. Thanks Alex ❤

Two top-deck tutors with a Turn 1 Dashed Rag clear as day.
The balls.
Love this channel!

"He knows about all of them.... that sucks" cracked me up
Can confirm. Did say cabal pit
Funny that without blue and with monocolored decks this didn't feel like CEDH at all, but it was fun to watch regardless!

Where is the dockside tutor Elliot lmao 😂

30:29 why did Alex play 2 lands?
He didn't, he played a land and decided to move one to the other side of his playmat.
Where did Jan get his hat and where can i get one
I will comment about it! Try and stop me!
Can somebody explain why grafdigger’s doesn’t stop Magda from tutoring her library? I’ve always thought they enter from the lib
It does stop magda, just only creatures. Doesn't stop noncreature artifacts
The card is surprisingly quite bad against most tutor commanders. Godo, Sisay and Magda can all win just fine with it on board.
@@MarvelOfRainIt mainly exists in stax decks to stop breach lines and Kinnan flips

so did eliot tutor for a mox diamond? im so confused what did he gamble for?
I have no clue either.
@20:10 Jan should have gone to 44 life. 36 + 8 = 44, not 42

Why not play a blue deck like, idk urza he is pretty good.
I know kriik was instant win and advantage

It's the less cEDH game I have seen 😂 but still enjoyed, I guess this is the kind of interaction you have when no one plays blue
