- Members of the Royal Family attended a thanksgiving service for the late King Constantine of Greece on Tuesday.
But the Prince of Wales didn’t attend as he had to cancel at the last minute due to personal reasons, Kensington Palace said.
Constantine II reigned as the last King of the Hellenes from 1964 to 1973 and played a significant part in the British Royal Family’s lives.
The special relationship between the Greek and British Royal Families stem from the late Prince Philip who was born in Corfu as a Prince of Greece and Denmark in 1921.
Their familial relation helped them become close, with Constantine being entrusted with the role of Prince William’s godfather.

King Constantine's sister is Queen Sofia of Spain, and his wife Queen Anne-Marie is the sister of Queen Margrethe of Denmark. Their children are first cousins to both King Felipe VI of Spain and King Frederik X of Denmark.

All current european royal families are related!! Some of them are even in line for the thrones of other countries and they are all mostly german blood and have very little native blood of the countries where they reign up until now where they started marrying common ppl/ foreigners as the availability of royal spouses have diminished significantly!!! Prince phillip and queen elizabeth were second cousins and third cousins at the same time!!!

I would argue the special relationship between the Greek and British royal families stems from Alexandra and Vilhelm of Denmark, the sister who became Queen of the UK and the brother who became King George of the Hellenes. Then you have the marriage of Prince George, Duke of Kent to Princess Marina of Greece the decade before Philip and Elizabeth.
King Constantine’s maternal uncle also married one of Prince Philip’s sisters.

The Royal Family are human like the rest of us. They can be ill or unable to attend an appointment for any number of reasons, have some compassion. You can't plan these things. I don't know anyone that never gets ill and it can happen with barely any notice. Give him a break.
