I think we may not be the public targetted by this episode. I believe this video can help teens who suffers from anxiety themselves. They need help. Someone has to reach out to them. And raise awareness about what can be done. Mental health crisis is still a stigma and a tabou. Teens can feel very isolated and ashamed when they encounter such expérience. I am glad those young men shared what they are going through with such candor. I feel this can really help the youth.

It's an opportunity for The School of Life to go mainstream. Sure, it feels a little watered down since becoming a "TH-cam Original" but it's still wonderful to see these sorts of videos being projected on a wider audience. The more people who can can get a better understanding of themselves and the world around them the better. Bravo to The School of Life and TH-cam for making it happen.

TSOL was never that "deep" to begin with. The philosophies and psycho-analytical ideas presented are very complex if you dig deeper; TSOL only introduces those ideas and provides suggestions or possibilities for further self-exploration. For me it's been a good way to explore my own emotions, fears, hopes, and desires. By going mainstream, TSOL isn't moving the needle all that much. They are simply injecting some documentary techniques and entertainment values into their productions.

The formula is easy for this kind of internet stars:
They build their media around their followers and let society shape how they react and act. Then, they feel they have no real personality since all they do is in order to please their followers. In other words, they have lost their personality.
Solution: disconnect and find yourself. Not necessarily by traveling and making annoying travel blogs with electronic music on the background, but by meditating and reading. Stop thinking you are important because no one is and that's perfectly fine :D

Are you an anxiety sufferer yourself and find the guidelines given in this video misleading ?? I can only try to guess. Why a joke ? _ The young human beings pictured in this video are honnest and open about the mental health crisis they went (and still are going) through, and they are raising awareness about what anxiety is, and what can be done. What's not to love about that ?? I mean, at least they try ! They are willing to use their notoriety for good. I think it's smart. I think they really care about their public, who is obviously, not 30 years olds, but younger.

I thought people who would watch the school of life would be more open-minded, but I was wrong. People are “hating” at the school of life for being a sellout and the martinez twins for being narcissistic and entitled. First of all SOL can reach a broader group of people by choosing to work with the twins, which means more people will benefit with the knowledge SOL provides us. And second of all I think it’s pretty short-minded if you think the twins don’t have anxiety and problems of their own, you don’t have to like them to understand that.

For me, it wasn't so much the use of the people they're including. I get wealthy and famous people can easily have psychological problems and I can empathize with them on that level. That said, these recent videos seem like they're increasingly becoming click-baity and pop-cultureish. I originally subbed to this channel for educational purposes, not pop-culture, which I'm worried it seems to be slowly transforming to. This is not to say this video wasn't educational, but it currently is mixing the two together, and at a mixture moreso than previous recent videos, so to me, it looks like they're slowly edging their way from education to pop-culture.
So, for this reason, I'm out.(thumbing down, unsubbing, and using my blocktube browser extension to block the channel from appearing in my reccommended videos/channels)

    • @SoulControlla99

Just because they're mainstreaming it and making it less like an educational video, doesn't mean it's not carrying an important message. Real life doesn't teach you lessons like a TH-cam video, you have to decipher them from whatever context they come in.

I have been diagnosed with anxiety.
I remember when I had my first panic attack. I barely came out of the shower, and I was about to eat.
    “Mom I don’t feel good” I said.
“It’s probably the cold” my mom replied
I started gagging as I was eating and
my throat felt like it was closing as if i was about to cry.
“Mom help me, I don’t feel good!” I cried
“What is wrong with you?!” My mom exclaimed as I started jumping up and down while I was crying. Now I’ve kind of solved that problem. Only sometimes I have anxiety attacks. I don’t know why. I’m feeling fine, I’m supposed to be having fun at theme parks or somewhere else but I just get this feeling, and start crying and start panicking (usually for no reason)

Dear friends who hate this video,
I really mean no offence. But I am trying to understand you. Here are seven questions I wanted to ask:
    1. So when you were a teenager, if you were promised money and fame, would you have said no?
    2. How many teenagers do you know, who would refuse the opportunity, if they had the chance?
As a guitar teacher, I am fortunate to have many teenagers in my life. I love them and respect them enough to know them well. I can assure you that non of them would have said no.
    3. Don't you think that it would be helpful for them to see this video, to understand that being famous and rich wouldn't help them to get over their insecurities and anxieties?
Because even if they got there, like Martinez brothers, their primary worries wouldn't go away, right?
The solutions may not be explained in depth in this video. But this channel offers tons of videos on how to deal with these problems. I can send you a list.
    4. If thanks to this video, the followers of Martinez brothers discovered TSOL and got interested in their content and felt encouraged to watch all the other videos , wouldn't that be an enrichment for them too? Just like it has been for all of us.
    5. I sense that you look down on Emilio and Ivan. Could you explain WHY?
In other words, if you consider yourself " superior" to them, why is that?
    6. If we don't want the followers of these youtubers as fellow subscribers, aren't we being incredibly vain?
    WHY are they not welcome?
I mean, how come we cannot even share an endless cyber space??
    7. Surrounding yourself only with people like you means being surrounded by mirrors. Wouldn't that be blinding?
Thank you so much TSOL for offering us all these stories we wouldn't have heard otherwise.
( Gracias Ivan y Emilio, por compartir vuestra historia con nosotros. Me emocionó mucho. Sin duda, lo que hicisteis es un gran acto de coraje. Seguramente vais a ayudar y inspirar a mucha gente. No sois solamente talentosos, sino sabios tambien! )

@@celinee.9562 To be clear, these remarks have nothing to do with the twins in the video, because it is not their fault; moreover, if they were genuinely helped, then that is all the better for them.
However, one of the cruxes of the problem is that the SoL, or TH-cam, have decided to make a spectacle of people difficulties, which is ridiculous -- let alone against some of the erstwhile ethos of the SoL. The fact that they are moving to TH-cam Premium also signals this change of integrity.
So we disagree: the SoL did not do the best they could do. They reduced an opportunity for reflection to superficial flashiness. It is not only the message that matters: it is also depends greatly on how it is conveyed. And they, the SoL, have been choosing lately to convey it in disingenuous ways.

It's good that you point that out ! They didn't intend to be exhaustive in that video. They talked about their personal healing journey, but we couldn't follow them in their day to day. A psychiatrist would need several hours of interview to diagnose someone properly. PTSD, generalized anxiety disorder, chronic state of stress, Burnout, etc. The message here is '' it's okay to talk about mental health and it's okay to have a breakdown and go on a healing journey '' what i felt is the video was good at showing the need for recovery can mean to ask for help, and also cultivate patience and a new found love for the body we live in.

They should've opened up a patreon or something I agree. But in this day and age if you don't learn a bit of marketing and manage to augment your visibility and audience by all kind of means (like they did in this vid by trying out a completely different target audience, video format and even type of content altogether)... well, specially in a very competitive playing field like TH-cam's, you're gonna have a bad time, become less and less watched, close down, etc.

It's not just the spirituality of the past. In the past everyone had a set role, they had a class, an arranged marriage, they never left their town or village, they worked the job of their parents, Baker, Thatcher, Smith etc. Less to worry about and nothing better to do than hang out with friends, family, communities and lovers.

jhunt5578 - I agree, and research shows we are generally happier with less, rather than more, choices. Maybe this is why there have been very few free societies in human history.

@@shoulders-of-giants Just because a marriage is arranged it doesn't mean its forced. I think you're missing my point anyway. Simple lives without ambitions of status along with close communities and simplified relationships were conducive to mental wellbeing.

Holy shit, if this comment section and down-votes are a representation of the broader TH-cam community, then I have no faith in humanity. Sure, kids who blow up on TH-cam with no discernible talent might be annoying sometimes, but literally half the viewers here are choosing to invalidate their mental health struggles and blame them for their misfortunes.

I didn't know who the Martinez twins were until now. When I saw the outrage in the comments I thought they must be really messed up, like PrankInvasion. I researched a bit and couldn't find any controversy, they were just bullied in Team 10 and left. Their videos seem like silly juvenile fun, I watched the one where they wear acrylic nails and skimmed a few others. I thought it was cute, and they seem far kinder than Paul brothers. *So why is everyone hating so much?*
Almost all of you are SoL fans. Didn't SoL videos teach you something about our collective misery despite outward appearances? How do these kids make so many of you turn so hateful?
That said, I don't like the video because it's supposed to be premium content, but it's nowhere as deep as standard Sol videos. It's more like a short textbook description of anxiety, and barely touches on the topic of the title - anxiety about anxiety.

Robin Williams had everything, Chester Bennington had everything, Chris Cornell had everything.. yet they and many others ened up taking their own lives. You cannot look at someone and say, they dont know what I've been thru, because obviously we dont know what they've been thru either.. That judgement you cast, is no different than what it is most of you fear yourselves. Take the context of the video people.. there's a message beyond what you're willing to acknowledge outside all that judgement.
