Ya know sometimes ignorance is bliss... But sadly this doesn't work on me and I flipped every drawing I did in the past and sht I don't want to go through the pain of doing it anymore
About the canvas flip, this was a mind breaker for me... I made so many drawings where I was really proud until I learned about the c..c-c-c-anvas FLIP!! Nowadays, when I make a drawing, I regularly go to the mirror to check if it's okay even when flipped and I do this especially for the eyes too! It helps a lot (to do this in the early stages, you'll just cry if you do this at the end haha) Edit: You're my favorite drawing channel on TH-cam, I wouldn't know what I would do without the advice of Ikea Sir.
Ikr i always get a chuckle when people bring up the fear of flipping the canvas. It's become my go to habit, i prolly flip thousands of times in a single drawing session, and honestly it's become like a crutch for me, I'm that dependent on it, so much so that i sometimes flip my pages around and hold them to the light when drawing traditionally
I actually flip the canvas so much that its no longer useful as a tool for checking for mistakes. I need to force myself to stop doing it so I can retain its benefits.
how do you make tutorials so entertaining i literally just watch your videos because of the editing and humor, AND i learn something from it aswell, this is great!
The humour and effort that is put in all your drawing tutorials made drawing for a beginner artist like me so much easier and relaxing to draw. thank you Marcel🎉
I can’t express my gratitude. With these videos, I’ve finally been able to do my one passion. Drawing. I am even creating my own manga and have a complete story and cast for it. Thank you so much!!!!!!!
1:00 No worries! I liked it immediately seconds after receiving the notification because I know for sure this is gonna be some quality content I was looking for!
Canvas flipping is second nature by now! It's EXTREMELY HELPFUL! What I found helpful as well, especially when it comes to drawing eyes! Is flipping the canvas upside-down. See it for yourself, for me the difference in perspective instantly reveals if the eyes are looking right or if they are off. Thank you Marcel for your hard work! Your editing, how the red lines materialise for example, always leaves me in awe. It's such a quality detail. Though I only draw digitally and don't have to stress about leaving eraser markings on the paper, your tips and advice are tremendous help!
a thing that helps with getting the iris placement that isn't intuitive is that you often want the character to be slightly crosseyed. When you look at things, your eyes aren't looking in the same direction, they're both looking at the same *point*. That distinction matters. Both of your eyes are focused on one point. If the point you're looking at is far away, this will be more or less the same as if they were looking in the same *direction*, but if the point you're looking at is closer, they eyes will be "cross eyed" slightly. If you want to see this in action, look at a disney character like Mickey Mouse. When doing a cartoony character they really push that cross eyed thing to its extreme, but it looks fine. If you keep having issues with your iris placement not looking right, try this out. It helped me a lot.
Hi Marcel I never usually comment on your channel but always smash.... I mean hit the like button everyday and seeing your videos inspired me to draw even better. Thank you so much for every single video and you deserve more appreciation
Absolutely awesome!! 😍 Soooo many struggles got so much easier while watching and learning from your tutorials. You've truly helped me grow as an artist! From body portions to hands to now, the second eye and faces in general! Thank you so much for being the best! ❤❤
Been following you for a while good sir, your content never fail to show good teaching method and entertaining video. If anyone ever has stress learning to draw, this good IKEA sir right here is all what you need
as digital artsit, flipping canvas is really game changer. I always do it even on sketching process. really help a lot not only for the eye but for the entire artpiece itself
Because of you tutorials I have actually started writing my own comic....... Yes it's original and so are the characters (if we don't count reference) so thanks a lot for that
Thanks Marcel. As a learning artist, this video has taught me alot and has really helped me so thank u for uploading and taking ur time to make this video
Dude I've been struggling to get the direction and size of the eyes for like a week now, your video helped me so much! Thank you man. I enjoyed the content a lot!👏🏼
Whenever I draw eyes, I always add the details when I’m coloring them. I think it’s easier to do this since it fits my style and it makes it easier since it doesnt make me focus on the detail in the eyes but just the shape of it.
Respect to this man He not takes any fee He teaches us for fee He taught me many things This man deserves 10 million!!! You are the best man! You aren't like other artists that only shows off , You are here to teach!!! Big respect!
I like to make a cross on the eyeballs with where the lines meet being the very center of the pupils to get them in the same direction. At worst, I'll draw the literal line of sight directly into the exact center of the pupils to be sure sure. I appreciate the advice about the problem being in the face though. I knew I struggled, but knowing how much further back I can go t make corrections really helps!!
Great video mate! (I'm the same person who said you don't know how to take a compliment in that livestream.) Don't push yourself and make sure you rest.
Dude I love the jokes and how you explained everything in this! Haha, this was incredibley entertaining! I definitely have made sure to give a like for ya!
It was the really very helpful . I think that you could open a university in which you can teach other people about art and the name should be DLASU - Draw like a sir university . Thank you for this video .
This is my first time (I think) commenting on one of your videos, and I just wanted to say that they have all been really helpful to me since I have found them several months ago. I like your videos because they are easy to understand, and because are humorous so I don't get bored and start zoning out. I'm still not very good at my art, but the quality of it is definitely better and progressing faster since i've started watching you, plus, I actually feel more desire to get better at it now. Thank you for your tutorials, they are highly helpful and very appreciated 😊💖
Ok so I’ve been drawing for years, I’ve been watching countless tutorials, I know everything that there is to know. But I just can’t do it and I don’t understand why, like is this it, is this where I peak?? Btw love your videos especially the manga ones, very helpful!!❤
I was just looking for your next video and just this notification came btw your tutorials are real like we need such tutorials but they aren't on platform. Thankyou for teaching with comedy ,Mainly when cuss words come😂😂😂
I dunno if it counts as a canvas flip, but when I'm doing pencil or pen drawings I'll hold the paper so I'm looking at the back and put it between myself and a strong light source. Quick and easy check if you don't want to use or have your phone.
When i was i used to correct my other half drawn messed up eyes by drawing an eye patch or cover them by hair 😂😂 So this video is definitely a life saver for my drawings ❤
In case you missed my last video:

I am commenting this same comment on your german channel. Pls make a video on this problem
F**k it, you are my favourite artist forever
Canvass flip is the art equivalent of hitting "submit" in an online exam and finding out immediately what you got wrong.
It's ridiculous how good of a comparison this is
Yep
Its like drawing an apple and after flipping you got banana😂 this is how I felt for the first time I flipped
Ya know sometimes ignorance is bliss... But sadly this doesn't work on me and I flipped every drawing I did in the past and sht I don't want to go through the pain of doing it anymore

I did this and found out that I looked ugly ☹
Yes! I learned about the mirror trick like 2 weeks ago and since then ive been using that trick on my drawing
Nothing says "your art sucks" like the Canvas flip
I actually flip the canvas so much that its no longer useful as a tool for checking for mistakes. I need to force myself to stop doing it so I can retain its benefits.
You deserve a nice german beer. Thanks for the tips.

Honestly, a video about how to correct issues identified during the "canvas flip" would be super helpful! Great content as always!
The pupil trick is mind-blowing to me, I'm definitely going to use that trick from now on. Thanks so much for this video!
