I love watching people's anatomy practice and going "hey i remember that reference from Pinterest"

The "Failure Notebook" is actually the reason you succeed. The detached cover is a good sign!
you haven't progressed in your art journey if you didn't start by almost digging holes into the paper with every line you drew
@grammy_hnng i guess i didnt progress at all?
@@grammy_hnngsee I’m the opposite. Chicken scratches everywhere, such unconfident lines 😂
I'll probably need a failure folder at some point but right now I just have a pocket of shame.
@@grammy_hnng I had soft lines from the beginning 😭😭😭
very shaky, tbh
The best piece of advice I ever got was "stop drawing what you think you see, draw what you actually see" because I had a bad habit of looking at a reference and then ignoring the reference because I say in my head "I know what an eye looks like" and that prevents you from pulling in new information because you're only ever referring back to the information already in your head.
Yes, precisely! This is shifting from left brain to the right brain
This is exactly it.
As someone new at drawing following the reference exactly makes me seem better than I am. The details carry all my sketches
my brain doesnt comprehend this idea at all, i don't know what i see or what i think i see
You will eventually be able to create from imagination, though, just don't expect it to look good until you have tons of practice from reference.
Watching this made me realise that there is no pre designated path to learning art. You took a very structured and stable way, which honestly is way better in the long run, but on the other hand i was just bumming around for a few years until i slowly got better lol.
Exactly what I’ve been doing, I’ve been drawing BASICALLY everyday for the past five years( at least 4 times a week) and I was always like “ why am I not getting better? I’m drawing a lot and filling up sketchbooks a lot” but the whole reason I was progressing so slowly is because I was JUST drawing I wasn’t studying anatomy or anything like that. Recently though I’ve decided to actually try and learn more so we will see how that goes
Good Luck!!! @@Nic0Dr4ws
Yeah, progress in anything scales with how seriously you take it. But you will always progress. The more you do something, the better you get at it.
It is also limited to those who have good health, in many ways. I attempt deliberate practice and due to disability literally cannot consistently do it. It depends on the person.
@@crab5862 Art can be expressed in all sorts of way. Maybe you will have to take a unique approach and express your art in a non traditional way. I hope this doesn't come off as insensitive. I've just seen some incredible things people have created despite their limitations. I believe you could do the same.
I've been drawing for 1 year 1 month ago. The feeling of frustration, negative mindset when I saw that the results were not as expected, something that made me almost stop drawing. But then I forced myself to keep learning and practicing, and now I can see a significant difference. I'm happy with the process.
Same for me, the date I started practicing (September 2022) I started to get irritated that my art wasn’t as good as others even though I never in my life cared years ago while drawing.
I wish I could just show my past self the progress I’ve made In like a year and 4 months so that I would be more motivated 😢
I started art seriously about 2 years ago
Halfway through i lost interest, still hanging on to whats little of my artist mind, sketching random doodles and such. Im startibg to get bacj into it though, hopefully i wont get burnt out
A word that always motivates me when I struggle to continue learning to draw is: Drawing is not something you can master quickly, even if your brain is on par with Albert Einstein or other intelligent people.
@@seren3488 Keep thinking positive and study friends, I also often draw random sketches (especially Loomis) and Doodle when I lost interest. And of course it's very useful
@@honorablesix Keep thinking positive and study buddy 🔥
Major.. MAJOR credit for your drive, focus, willingness to do the sometimes frustrating WORK !
So much effort.. It's staggering !
I swear every time I watch one of these "I learned how to draw" videos I'm like "Can't wait for that burst of motivation I'll get from seeing someone show how "bad" they used to be at drawing and then show their progress, which might give me a good idea on how far I've already come in my own art journey!"
.....and then they show the very first page and it's already better than what I can consistently create after literal years of practicing
Are you maybe practicing things you already know? Are you pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone?
"Lets have a look at page one, shall we?" *front cover comes off book* I dont know why that was so funny to me but it made me instantly sub
I'm warning you of the journey ahead. There will come a time when you will feel like you've stagnated, like there's no progress; you're not getting better. The only solution is to keep going. It's going to be frustrating but you will find results with perseverance. My advice, when you arrive there, is to critically evaluate what you are purposefully avoiding and do that. Don't like drawing buildings or mechs? Draw them. Don't want to do master studies? Suck it up butter cup. Maybe a mentor or online class will be helpful. I believe in you, dude. Art is hard. It requires dedication. You can do it.
there was a table named about this The Dunning-Kruger effect
I've been in that lull as of late, thanks for the advice.
so true
I agree about the 'if you don't like it, practice it bit'. Everyone hates drawing the stuff they are bad at. It's actually a really easy way to work out what you need to improve. Specifically if you hate drawing something its likely because its a weak point of yours.
Wsp tripplejaz
as someone that is on my drawing journey, its nice to see progression
this 1 year art progress is deeply realistic and is really comforting to me. I'm a student , have only been drawing about 3 years lol. Sometimes I feel frustrated that I can't draw out all the stories I've ever wanted to, but I realise that improving takes time.

5:00 you are doing the best thing for learning right here. Practicing with reference and then ending with imagination is the best way to improve especially for anatomy bc it helps lock the forms in your mind
Well done on your progress throughout the year. Honestly, your hard work and motivation is inspiring and it’s clearly paying off. Keep at it! I look forward to see part 2 next year 😊
This is honestly the perfect video I needed to push through and actually not be too hard on myself for not seeing progress as soon as I would like, great video as always😊
This is so inspiring to watch! I'm definitely passing your vids around to anyone learning to draw. Seeing what kind of progress you can expect is so helpful!
Proud of you for working so hard! Never forget to draw things that you love outside of study too!
Having the cover page of your sketchbook fall off is such a mood
Watching you reminds me of how I started, how everyone starts, and I can’t help to smile through out the video. In my opinion, you are to a great start! Keep it up and you’ll reach your goals in no time. 👏
Much love, man. ❤
Thanks for the motivation man, was putting my drawing aside and wouldn’t begin even after watching soo many art videos. Hoping to see more of your content soon!
I've been drawing for 4 months now and I love seeing other people join in .
Keep going, pal!
Been drawing for 8 months here! Cheering everybody on as well!
i actually don't study anything (like anathomy, etc) but i have been drawing a liiittle more seriously since 2019 atleast and i still draw terrible, sometimes i made some progress at drawing something but the next time i want to draw something similar it looks so trashy
@@marzey_0 learn anatomy. It's worth the effort.
Ive been drawing since i was little
Really great to see your channel and your art skills grow so much, + this is totally helping me with my current case of art block
commenting here before you make it big!!! i really love your commentary and congrats on the progress youre doing so awesome!!!
This video got randomly recommended to me and I just want to say you're doing great! There are so many things to learn in art, and with the internet now allowing us to constantly compare ourselves to others, it can feel overwhelming. But taking it one day at a time and seeking out resources for learning like you are is exactly what you should be doing.
If you're still focusing on anatomy, I recommend the Morpho anatomy books. There's, like 9 or 10 of them, and they cover a wide variety of anatomical subjects like muscles, hands/feet, wrinkles and fat folds, clothing draping, etc., and you can generally get them for fairly cheap or even free from some places.
Keep it up! :)
dude i LOVE to see other artists progress idk why
you're doing great :D
Very impressive! Keep going with that motivation and dedication and you’ll for sure continue to see progress :)
Hey loved your video! Can really see your progress, exciting. Just wanted to drop some encouragement and anticipation for future works 😀
Yo this is so cool! I haven't seen any other videos of you so far, but that progress is insane!! Your committment to getting better at art is incredible and you are genuinely so powerful for showing the early stages of your art lol
when it comes to anatomy, i am at about the same level as the beginning of your second sketchbook, and it's so frustrating that i dont bother even trying to improve, but seeing you push through is really motivating!
So uh yeah, i usually dont comment a lot on videos, but your video just left that much of an impact. Good luck on your art journey, you're really well on your way to nailing digital painting ^^
I really like those videos that show realistic progress unlike those who make videos that they become leonardo davinci in one month congratulations on your progress homie
This is great progress! I had many of the same issues as you, as well as breakthroughs!
I'm often asked to give advice for new artists, but advice can only go so far if you don't have the dedication to actually apply them. So exciting to see development!
Thank you so much for this, because right now, I'm going through my first few months, and I suck! But going through exactly the same. So thanks. Love your thoughts.❤❤
Let’s go. I love this content and I really appreciate you sharing your journey with us. Onwards!
I want to point out one thing about digital art, because I do digital art since years but I still have some moments where it feels odd and unfamiliar compared to trad art, the brush is quite important in your experience, find a brush that fits you and itll make some stuff easier. My way of sketching really improved once i found the brush that fits how I approach art
Aside that your video is very motivating and I can't wait to see more, keep up the good work!!
This is inspiring. I want to upload an art journey video too sometime in the future. It's so individual yet sets realistic goals and helps to not get frustrated when it takes time to get better.
Great job, Keep it up :D This reminds me of my own first year of making art. It's hard work and occassionally punishing, but the eventual growth is worth it!
I am so impressed! Thoroughly enjoyed your video and the progress you’ve made. Also, enjoyed how nice your face is to look at! Thank you
man, I've just stumbled upon your channel for the first time, and I have to say, this video might be one of the best out there. (You're lovely, how you tell about stuff is just endearing. Had to pause it just to leave this comment and send my best wishes your way.)
dude this is so inspirational thank you. i decided just today that im going to start drawing, really. i hope in a years time i can watch your next video and see the progress i made as well :)
Damn dude, you improved so much in such a short amount of time. I have recently just got back into drawing and art after graduating from uni in animation. I stopped for like 5 years. Lost the passion, the hunger and most of all covid just messed up so much. But I've been looking around for some things to motivate me and use as a source of logical inspiration. You have inspired me massively and I have learnt so much from just a few of your videos. Keep up the amazing work!
This type of videos are so encouraging. Sometimes you may feel alone on this path of becoming artist as a beginner, but this is a really good company for the journey.
Also if i fail on something you success this is great to learn about that, because looking at Pro's may be a too big step.
Flipping the page sent me😂😂 What a great progression! Inspiring for sure
very encouraging, well done, definitely worth the work you put in, enjoy making art.
I'm very impressed with the progress you made digitally. I've never been able to create presentable art with a tablet, and it killed my art drive for some time, until I just accepted there's nothing wrong with traditional. But your talent skyrocketed from the passion you put in it
I just want to know how to not be afraid to make videos based on art 😭
You did amazing improvements in the course of 1 year holly molly!
Yo! That's a great progress kepp working hard and enjoy the process ♡
As an artist whose been drawing for 4 years, your doing an amazing job! its really good how you focus on practising your weak points, practising weak points and taking them head on is the fastest and best way to learn!!!
Dude this is mad cool, this is makes me feel so motivated to improve my art!
Your progress over the year is great.. I love it. I am getting into digital art and animation now. I hope that some day I get as good as where you are.. Thank you for sharing your story.
Lovveeee seeing your progress!
Love this kind of vid. I see a lot of beginners raging about not being an art god within a few months, but this is what the progress actually looks like.
Hi! Great video! It looks a lot like my art journey. One thing that really helped me was switching to better quality paper. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal, but honestly I saw huge jump in my ability just by using more dense paper. 👌🏽
Thank you man! This inspired me so much!
Really good to see a honest progress review
As someone who just started drawing a week ago, this was EXACTLY the video I needed for inspiration. Thank you.
This is so awesome and inspiring!
3:10 I respect that you actually resisted.
your progress is amazing dude
Dude this was super inspirational. Caused me to sketch your face as I was watching even!
this inspired me a lot, great video
wow this video is so inspiring you really improved!!!
Loved watching this progress of art and ur super underrated dont give up on art ❤W
i found your vid as accident and i got so motivated, ill start drawing from today with no excuses.
Why is your art progress journey so good! Like major props to you, you studied a lot of stuff most newbie artists wouldn’t and knew to study perspectives and different things!
Keep it up man I think if you keep going with this type of studying that is intentional and skill based you’ll improve majorly.
No hate to other artists tho of course I just notice a lot of beginners tend to not think of improving as an intentional thing like this, where they genuinely study things like prospective snd such. And just tend to think if they draw their ocs or fanart everyday or regularly they’ll improve. Which is not how it works improving in art means actually doing studies like you did in this video!
And to quote you “to my credit I really was trying to work on my weaknesses.”
Artists just starting out with the intention of improving, ya’ll get that quote tattooed on your brain please.
Edit: HOLY HECK IF THIS IS HOW DEDICATED YOU ARE TO IMPROVING YOUR ART BY ACTUALLY DOING STUDIES AND DRAWING A LOT THEN IN PART TWO YOUR GONNA BE A MASTER
Great progress! Keep on keeping on
You've come a long way !!! Your progress is fantastic. You do a lot of study and seems to have fun. I have no doubt that you will progress even further.
Don't feel guilty about stopping for a month or so, sometimes a break help you digest what you learned.
Try to draw without reference more. It's cool to have a super technical side, but don't forget the creative side.
Rendering is hard and take years to pin down. If you want to progress on that part, I have some suggestions/tips that worked for my art students.
For color : -gouache painting, using only CMYBW is the best way to see improvement. It is a super frustating exercice at first, be prepared. --> you will learn a lot about color mixing /
15 min digital sessions. Choose a picture, with no color filter if possible, set a 15min timer. Now try to replicate it whithout colorpicking. You can do a lot in a short time !
Man, I'm gonna be honest I wanna get back to drawing thanks to you
I stopped drawing a few years ago because I got discouraged and I really regret it now since I could've made so much progress
I just started a week ago
@@radhamadhav8063 good luck :)
Bro I've been drawing for six years and I can say that I did not progress as fast as this! Great video. Keeping my insperation on a high!
Your art has really inspired me cuz i feel like my art is “ok” now but my progress has been stagnant & i don’t have motivation to improve 😭 (probably bc i’m too lazy to get references and study art properly but we don talk abt that 😃)
Wow, that progress is crazy fast! I wish I had half your motivation and discipline.
Honestly you're doing great. The "Failure" sketchbook is a necessary step though! Without it, none of the other sketchbooks would be there. I think you should be proud of yourself. You've significantly progressed!
The progress is so good :0
Your starting point is still waaaaaaaaaaaaay above where I'm at even with some (unstructured) practice, but then I'm also shite at structuring and still at the "I need to practice perspective" -> "These lines are so boring, I don't wanna draw anymore" phase.
Here's to another year of studying, I wish I had half the effort level your did at your age. Keep on rocking it ! :)
incredible progress!
god damn !
watching this video made me feel like i met a long lost friend, I am exactly like you.
so relatable and I think just like you do.
at some points in the video, it really made me crack up.
Progress is insane and very inspiring >:D
That’s some great dedication, nice
this is so good! you have a real talent for recognising shape and perspective, i wish i did too 😅
I have to say you deserve to be complimented for your drawings of the body in movement. I'm a trained dancer and you've such a good eye for what we call 'line'. So many artists (even professional ones) don't actually pull it off to the dancer's eye. We can tell the small mistakes that turn a portrait into a not-quite-believable picture. -But you can do it.- Even in your early work you seem to have an innate understanding of where the fulcrum of the body is, how the weight is distributed down into the ground and how the limbs work around that fulcrum. It's a very cool talent.
Good luck!
I love that you have to make bad art to make good art. Because if you make nothing, theres nothing in this world you can compare that nothing to. Have a great art journey and make more art! You're gonna look back on it and think it's bad but that just means improvement!
I love this,it encouraged me to get better
Your video was recommended to me at my home page, and it was a pleasant surprise! Great work on your behalf! Your progress is so inspiring and your hard work shows! Can't wait to see your progress over time! Also it was funny that while I was watching I heard greek! Αλαγή! (I am greek) And the use as a name is great. Ancient Greek Gods had also names of that kind of nature.
(though nouns have gender as well in greek and change, Αλαγή is female) though that's not a problem or anything. Your idea and use of it is perfect!
inspiring, thanks for the motivation
Heyy We have the same XP-PEN tablet! It's my first one too, still use mine to this day, had it for 4 years and it still works like a charm
Great progress by the way, keep growing!
Watching this video makes me want to practice even harder now!!
Thank you so much for sharing.
Love your videos❤ just subscribed
To everyone who just started their art journey and who are still going, please never give up on it! I cannot stress this enough, no matter how bad your art looks right now, just keep going! I promise you progress does happen, you might not see it but one day you will make something and feel so proud of yourself. I've been drawing since I was a kid and I'm still learning how to do poses, so sometimes you might not be able to get to your goal immediately, but you will definitely see the difference as you go! I wasn't any better, but now if I compare my art to the ones I drew when I started learning, I feel so proud of how far I've come. The only rule in art is, never compare yourself to someone else and never stop drawing, you can and should take breaks but don't stop.
My best friend, who also loved art and was actually very good at realistic potraits, stopped drawing and gave up on it, no matter how much I told her to continue, she didn't listen, and now I can't show my art to her, because I know she compares herself with me. She feels bad she isn't as good (I swear I'm not trying to brag) even now I tell her she can start and she can get better, but she isn't willing to listen. So, that's why to everyone out there, please don't give up. You WILL get better, more than you think, and I'm 100% sure of that :)
Very motivating video congrats! 😊🩷
I love this! Gives me hope that I can get better too!
Keep. Going.
Only 10,000 more to go, we'll get there eventually
wow congratulations on your effort, that's a huge evolution! Got me inspired to maybe also improve my crap drawings
dayum, great progress
Good stuff man keep it up.
being an artist is just continuing to make things out of passion even when in a rut, or when you feel like everything you make is shit, it's just the continuous drive to keep moving forward regardless out of love of what you do
I experience this alot as a musican where I have periods where I can't make anything cause i feel like I can't anymore, but passion and love of what I do make me continue moving forward.
anyone can be an artist, talent doesn't exist, everyone you think is talented is just someone who spent time learning and growing when nobody is watching, cause they love it
Great progress!
5 years and i still no better than anything you did . incredible i respect you : D
i do wanna hear the bl joke do-
4:31 reminds me a bit of Hide Channel art really good stuff to learn from there. :3
Hey man, can I give you some advice? Follow the fundamentals. To learn how to draw you need to follow an order. Of course, not a checklist to sign one at a time, because one thing complements the other. You want to start doing it now poses and body, but for that there is something missing first. Poses need gestures, anatomy, perspective and shapes. So, I recommend that you start studying line, shapes and perspective. I saw that you were discouraged with perspective, but you were drawing so well. So, I recommend starting with these. And also dynamic sketching. Which combines all three of these. I swear, if you do this, your drawings will BE MUCH, MUCH BETTER. There's a playlist from Peter Han about dynamic. I swear, It's worth it, man
This what I've been telling myself lot of time but I'm just too lazy
That's cool and all but it's just not fun. I want to get better but id rather go slow and have fun than make it a chore
@@Joeh_ But here's the thing, studying is often not fun. You end up not studying what you need and you just stay in comfort and don't evolve. This will really slow down your progress, but if you're aware, that's fine (^^)
treating art like it has rules will kill any joy
@@moonlit_sky127 Not everything in studying will be fun. Especially if you want to be a professional. I study a lot of things that I find boring, but I think about how I can create everything that's in my head and that motivates me. Art will often be a punishment , because you're a beginner and you're just starting out. As my drawing teacher says, "you have to love punishment." of your drawings and that takes a lot of willpower
wow! its just amazing how mutch time you put in to this its crazy
