    Man, I just put a new Kenwood head unit and couldn't get no sound out of any of the speakers and answers on Google were dead ends. I was beating my face off the dash and about ready to have a stroke until I came across your video and it was like the clouds parted and Sun started shining through. I'm curious how you determined the polarity of the speaker wires going to the speakers? I can tell just by listening to the speakers when music is playing, but other than that would need to connect a dc power source to the wires and then test with a meter at each of the speaker terminals. How did you do it?

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I found a diagram online and used that to get started. Then, after it was all wired up, I confirmed polarity by checking for bass response as discussed on other comments here. Polarity was good according to the diagram.
      You’re right on about checking with DC power if needed. If I need to I use a 9V battery and quickly touch the wires and see if the speaker moves out or inward. If it moves outward than I’ve got the right polarity.

      My best suggestion to you is to purchase the correct harness from Metra Electronics. Also, there is no switched power in that harness. A Metra digital harness creates the switched power for you via the Dodges digital BUS system.

    Question I have a 2006 Dodge ram truck with infinity speaker system. I had Best Buy upgrade my stock stereo with a Pioneer now the system will not fade. Best buy said that when you change stereos the Infinity system will not fade.. Is that right?

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how they wired it. They’re probably feeding the new radio into the factory amp. This video bypasses the amp which I prefer to do. Best Buy may not be willing/able to bypass it. If the fading is important to you, try finding a car audio shop in your area. Any good shop can do an amp bypass for you.

    I have a question. I have the same system. Im gonna put a new reciever and new amplifiers. Can i just run. Rca jacks to the both amps and speaker wires to channels on the amp? I dont use the controls on steering wheel.

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can.
      You still need to get tie the speaker wires from the new amps to the wiring by the factory amp that goes to the speakers. Unless you want to run new wires from the new amps to the doors. I would usually just tie into the factory wires at the amp to get access to the factory speakers wires after the new amps.

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the problem you’re having is that the radios Yellow wire is battery power and the Red is switched power for when the truck is on. However, this truck doesn’t give us a switched power at the radio. You have to be sure you’re using a special harness/box that takes a digital signal from the trucks wiring and creates a switched power for you. Here’s a link…amzn.to/3LNG5zt

    Do you have to use the green box? I did the bypass and everything in my 03, stereo is acoustic as hell and doesn’t get loud, like it honestly sucks, yet same everything except head unit model sounded great in my 07 Chevy.

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you did this exactly like I did the radio should sound good. If you reversed polarity on the speaker wires it will not sound good. To test for this you need to fade to the front left and see if the speaker sounds good and has some bass response. It probably will sound better by itself. Then balance to the center so you’re listening to both front speakers and no fears. If the bass you had disappears then your front woofers are out of phase. You have one wired backwards.
      If you have good bass with both front speakers playing, then your rear speakers might be out of phase.
      You could also have dying factory speakers overall.

    • @BenDover4Mee
      @BenDover4Mee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoesCarSmartsNY This was exactly my first thought based on his description., If polarity is reversed, it will cause an effect that sounds like it's increasing the stereo effect, but the base frequencies will cancel causing almost no bass response when the balance is in the middle (sound to bother speakers). Each speaker individually will sound nomal

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s not a lot to go on. I would put my ear to each door speaker and see if they’re making any sound. You might have blown out the door woofers and you’re only hearing the tweeters in the dash or pillar now. The smell could have been the woofers bowing. They give off an electrical burnt smell sometimes when that happens.

    Can I just wire my stereo off the battery with a fuse. And run new speaker wires ?

    • @JoesCarSmartsNY
      @JoesCarSmartsNY  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is already constant battery power at the radio, but you will need to find a wire that gives you an accessory power signal that only activates when the key is on. Otherwise you have to use a toggle switch to turn you radio off / on when you want it to be powered on. The harness does all that for you. I know it costs money, but it saves a ton of time.
      You can run your own speaker wires, but that is actually more work than this is. This way you only need to run from the radio to the glove box area. Otherwise you have to run all the way to each speaker and getting through the door boots is not super easy either.

    • @6nzchencho752
      @6nzchencho752 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoesCarSmartsNY I was told that the door speakers only produce bass due to the the way the amp is set up. So it’s pointless to run good speakers if you won’t really be able to get all the benefits. Unless I also get some good dash speakers.

      Also I don’t have factory Nav and At this point won’t really matter to me if I get that $100 kit with the box and the harness. Which I read that box allows for a aftermarket head unit install. Also is there any way I can upgrade that factory amp ? Maybe throw something to help me now play the door speaks with all frequencies? Line our converters ?
