- How to set the Wu Sao with structure.
Wing Chun’s Wu Sao (protective hand) plays a pivotal roll in the art’s approach to fighting.
The Wu Sao is thought to be part of Wing Chun’s guard or ready stance. However, there is no ready stance in Wing Chun. Wu Sao is actually part of the action of intercepting.
Great video. Focus over force, energy over movement. Structure over strength. Very important ideas to understand. We should use as much of our opponent's energy [softness allows conformity; conformity expands surface; surface disperses force and allows control]. Force cannot be applied without resistance. Therefore, we should be "soft" and springy as Ip Man described. Keep up the wonderful teachings.

I'm nowhere close to a wing chun dojo or any sifu so I study wing chun via GM Samuel Kwok's dvds. I'm still on Siu Lim Tao, so it will be a long road. Videos like this help and you were correct about teaching yourself wing chun "ya gotta pick a path". I have and it helps.

I don't get it. Isn't the rear hand, in this case Wu Sao, supposed to be an inside one? (In other words, isn't it supposed to deflect from the other side/away from you?) Because i see you setting it on the outside of the wooden arm. Is it just a training method or what?
