    Sifu Gary Lam is a rare combination of strong fighter and gifted teacher - he's able to teach how to *use* and not just how to imitate. Not only that, but as you can see he's funny, direct and speaks with both *knowledge* and *experience.* Thank you, Sifu Gary Lam for sharing your experience

      I do JKD. But I tell people, everybody I see and talk to, if you wanna know JKD? You need CHI SAO and GARY LAM WING CHUN, with 18 hand PAK SAO, with FUNG HAO, with understanding center, with control, using energy against him, and hitting. The JKD people need the wing Chun in my opinion. Gary is the top. ✅✅😁

      @@GaryLamWingChunKungFu I can tell you this much. If somebody asked me or talked about wing chun in a conversation, either jkd wing chun or mantis it could be, I ALWAYS tell them I study Gary exclusively. I do go through the masters tapes. We do learn a lot from it. But as far as hard core fundamentals like 1. USING ENERGY AGAINST HIM 2. STRIKING 3. CONTROLLING Economy of motion, entries, how to use TAN. Point to the shoulder. How to collect. Use TAN FOOK BONG QUAN. How to attack with PAK SAO as an attack TO USE. All Gary. Using GUA CHOY JA JEUNG and FUNG HAO in a combo. Triple huen sao. All key. 💯☮️☑️☺️jkd people need somebody telling them to train the W.C. Going inside and outside. 18 hand. 😆💥🤟☑️we love, respect, and admire Gary in my house all of us. He’s like family even though we don’t know him personally. I’ve never met him. I did talk to him on the phone once. God bless you in your health. Be light, be like water. 😇☮️🙏😌

      @@file66 I know. His sifu. Wong sheung Leung had a big heart. We learn. We grow, we play, we fight 4 real. I cannot tell you how much knowledge I’ve been able to attain because of him. Him alone. As I believe... and you can quote me on this one, “Gary embodies, exemplifies everything WING CHUN is, with an added flavor of what BRUCE LEE added to the mix. Gary represents that perfect mix of WING CHUN, and JKD sensibilities. The only one thing he differs from them on is the HIT HIT HIT idea. We know we need control or else wrestling wouldn’t work so well as it does right. 🤛😌🙏I think JKD needs WING CHUN. I’ve been able to amass about 5-6 million views on TH-cam so far. Anytime we get the chance we teach Gary’s fundamentals. And his material is way more effective than the watered down jkd we see people trying to use. 😌🤟💥

    Tips: Do not leave your thumb "Hanging out", and or In front of the Palm, like in 8:15. If your thumb was in front of your palm and you had to use the palm.. it would get Smashed into your own palm. And if your thumb is hanging away from your hand... it will tend to get CAUGHT on the OPs fast moving limbs.. and get "Hyper Extended", which is incredible painful. Even worse, are those that are excellent at Chi-Na grappling, that will be able to set you up, than Grasp your thumb... Locking it, and putting you in a very painful experience.
    Furthermore... do not "FAN" out your fingers. They will end up being Jammed, Wrenched apart, or hyperextended backwards (or Grasped and Split, by Chi-Na).
    The solution, is to keep all of your Fingers touching "side by side".. and the thumb should always remain aligned perfectly with the pointer finger (Never in front of it). You dont want your hand and fingers to be "Tight"... but you do want to use enough pressure to keep them to stay in place, at all times. When the entire hand and fingers are Unified into a single structure, they are Stronger, and it will be far less likely that you will suffer impacts and damages, to your fingers, as a result.
    Many Sifu have a great depth of knowledge and experience, and I respect them for it... but a lot of them have never really sparred against high level fighters, at hardcore enough power levels, ... and Often enough, to make such a Realization + Change.
    After getting my fingers Jammed at least twice.. and a few Hyper-Extension issues from both fingers and my thumb being wrenched.. I learned the Hard Way. I used to spar against artists of all different styles.. pretty much every weekend. A lot of these fighters were up to 2x my own mass and strength. These cats didnt play "Nice" either. They went at me, with full intensity, and very heavy levels of power output. And when I got so good that they were rarely able to get a hit on me... this only Enraged them even more... and they would fight even Harder, with actual intent to cause serious bodily harm. Far harder than they Typically spar others... because of their level of frustration. Many fighters, when shut down repeatedly... tend to believe that if they just go Faster, and Harder... that they can somehow get their Hits in. All it really does, is make the counters even worse, for themselves. But they wont figure that out.. when they are sparring you. As such, you will have to have Masterclass level game... or you will likely suffer the consequences.
    Learning to train your awareness into your fingers at all times, will take extra training and discipline. And when you are pressured from heavy sparring, and may have ate some heavy strikes... it will likely be one of the first things that you "Forget" about, as your structure starts to fall apart, due to fears... lack of confidence, and lack of ability to remain physically disciplined. This will often take a lot of sessions, before you can maintain flawless form / structure, under heavy pressure of high level, high speed, high power... sparring / combat.
    Trust me... I used to think, that so called "Small flaws", would never be a real issue, when executing Wing Chun / Martial Arts. Then I sparred against a Masterclass level fighter, that had about 7 different arts under his belt (mostly Chinese arts). Every tiny flaw I made... he would ALWAYS catch, and counter-strike me over. His performance made a huge impression on me, and made me level up all of my abilities, to full Masterclass levels (flawless).
    I will also state, since Im already here... never to fully extend your vertical fist, and lock out the elbow. This can lead to Hyper Extension of the Elbow Joint, and cause permanent damages.. and life-long pain. My former Sifu Steve Lee Swift, had suffered this issue, himself (and continues to suffer from it). Always stop at least 1 cm before full extension. You will lose a tiny bit of reach, but it will be worth the safety, alone (preventing a Jeep Sao arm break).

    So say you repo cars for a living, and someone come up to your face aggressively, do you keep your arms in position to wu sau ? Is the wood dummy best to practice with if you dont have a partner ? Thank you Sir.

    • @GaryLamWingChunKungFu
      @GaryLamWingChunKungFu  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Always have your wu sau up. It's a lifesaver. In regards to the wooden dummy, you have to know how those movements translate to combat, which will require some explanation. The wooden dummy is in a fixed position, so you can't fully extend your arms and hands, to see what the correct execution of the movements are. What you think the wooden dummy form is and what it's actually telling you are very different.
