    You can also get a roll of aluminum roof flashing and put onto stop tubs from rubbing it

    What size gap do you use from the top of the tub to the self above it? Copying your build this wekend.

    Hey so i used the other method with the metal clips but didn't order the plastic insulation clips .. Will electricity black tape do the trick?

    Those "rivets" look more like eyelets. They are also used in leatherwork and can be set using an eyelet tool and a hammer or maul. Clean wiring set up for sure!

    How do you recess the shelves to make the heat tape fit snug

  • @sandyelliott3350
    @sandyelliott3350 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I see an electric floor heater in your snake room. The heat tape doesn't provide enough heat ?

    • @praxcrown5
      @praxcrown5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The space heater is likely there to increase the overall temperature of the room so that the "cold" end of the enclosure (opposite of the side over the heat tape) doesn't get too cold (Balls need warmer ambient temps than most colubrids).

    So it doesn’t matter if the heat tape is upside down it will still heat appropriately

    Just saw a video of yours on IG and was wondering, does the 3disc spacing between the shelves and the tubs provide enough ventilation?

    Is it safe to use heat tape on plywood? Will be building my own rack.

  • @pauls5745
    @pauls5745 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    quick and easy, but some wasted watts using a continuous strip, tho it's more involved to wire each shelf
    thanks for sharing!

  • @MMATrend
    @MMATrend 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    do you have to use packing tape on top of the heat tape? Or can you just leave it touching the bottom of each tub/enclosure?

    • @tschuller83
      @tschuller83 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't need to use packing tape. Sometimes I'll use hvac high heat adhesive tape and use small amounts to make heat tape stick to shelves.

    What is the temperature in the room and in the racks?
    Did you use anything else to heat the room? Or it's didn't necessary.

      Home depot and lowes carry it.

  • @samuelandolina6338
    @samuelandolina6338 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    How did you achieve the recess for the heat tape to sit in? Did you use a simple router? What bit did you use? Did you have problems with the pvc melting while you were using the router due to heat build up?

    • @SouthWestIron
      @SouthWestIron 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Straight plunge bit, looks sort of like a drill bit. Really easy to do. Mark out your lines with a straight edge and stay within them.

    im building a hatchling rack for ball pythons. i was told you dont need belly heat and can run it down the back. does that sound right or no?

    • @devinhotline2721
      @devinhotline2721 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      john schwartz you can. Their are pros and cons of back heat vs belly heat but either works. Hatchlings do better then adults on back heat so you’ll be good.

  • @CarpeDiem4691
    @CarpeDiem4691 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm wondering how do you get the heat tape by the roll? I've looked on reptile basics and they sell it by the foot, or in bulk which is extremely pricey. I only need one 6-7 foot roll and can't use pieces that are cut individually.

    • @tsb5137
      @tsb5137 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most places that sell by the foot have a quantity field. Put in 6 for the quantity and you will get a strip that is 6 feet long.

    Hello. I'm about to build a rack. But I don't know how to order heat tape and what size should I get. Can anyone help me out?

    • @pauls5745
      @pauls5745 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      depends on the size of animals you need to supply heating. corn snakes I used 3" wide about 6-8" long per tub, ball python adult I used 4" tape 12" long. my burmese I used 6" x 12" long...
      I prefer side heat, not under the tubs. always use a thermostat and probe! many videos here on TH-cam, also reptile forums are a good resource for How To's

    All of these questions and not a one answer. If we can’t get answers here then don’t expect to get answers at all when it becomes important.
