    Thanks for info. Can you connect the heat tape in a chained fashion so you only need one plug? Can you use connectors/grommets on both ends of the wire connecting two or more heat tapes? Then the plug connects into last heat tape. Thanks

    I'm not sure if you answered this in the vdeo but how do you get the heat tape to stick? Is there already a sticky side when you buy online or do you use something external like heat resistant tape to stick the heat tape onto the enclosure?

    • @obscurereptiles
      @obscurereptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! You can either staple it like I do (you can only staple in the clear sections, not the black or copper)
      Or you can buy a foil tape to put over it and stick it down!

    How many feet of heat tape can a thermostat handle?

    • @obscurereptiles
      @obscurereptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All depends on the thermostat, and how many watts per foot the heat tape ud you purchase. Each heat tape will tell you wattage when you order, and every thermostat will tell you on their website how many watts they can handle

    Fantastic Video,Sub’d after 1st minute Very well spoken & to the point. Few questions if you have the time
    To what depth do you route out the cavity for heat tape
    Does heat tape work better having a surface (besides the enclosure) directly under to bounce the heat off.. like for my pvc4x6x18” I’m setting up, I was going to make a base but didn’t know if it’s safer to have a large air gape or just a small one with rubber spacers to basically trap and transfer most of the heat
    I’m also setting up 3 new pvc4x2x12” which will have decorative foam on the 3 interior sides. I purchased 3 sheets of 12” heat tape, each 24” in length .. after watching I obviously have to much , what’s your opinion on how much I need? Is there a general formula? Thank you so much!!!

    • @obscurereptiles
      @obscurereptiles  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks!
      So heat tape needs room the breath, so when we were making cages we would allow for 1/4" or more to let the heat tape get air flow.
      When routering out for the heat tape you can only go a tiny bit or if you add staples it will loke through. So all depends on the thickness of the material you are using.
      The species, room temperature and cage material all determine how muxh heat tape to use. Whichever heat tape manufacture you use, you would have to research them specifically to get a better idea on what they recommend for how much based on the species you keep 🙂

    I have a 4'x2'x18" tall pvc enclosure for my ball python. What size heat tape would you recommend for this size and how much length wise? I am looking to get some as a supplemental heating because I'm currently using a 100 watt deep heat projector on a thermostat and it isn't warming up the hot side of the enclosure past 78-79°F on the ground. Thanks in advance!

    Hi! Since the heat tape has no back or front why doesn’t all the heat escape from the open side and instead heat up the inside of the enclosure.

    • @obscurereptiles
      @obscurereptiles  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since heat rises and is staple directly to the pvc it goes right up through. You also set the cage on things so it naturally wants to go up
