George Michael has a duet with Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston as well. Also had a duet with Stevie Wonder on one of his songs, Love is in need of Love.
You can't seriously compare a global star like George with Justin Bieber!!! Never. George was a great singer, Songwriter and producer with a career spanning over 30 years and over 150 million sold records.
@@Abri412wham was smashing it in USA Arethra career was not at the time, although a legendary singer it was GM who was the rising global superstar this is just before the faith album
George could sing Beiber and most artist under the table...and as good as he was Aretha Franklin was AMAZING and is easily one of the greatest female vocalist of all time
George is legendary himself.Aretha loved George and asked him to produce and write an album for her. He was the tender age of 22 when she requested this.. He was so intimidated, and so nervous that he couldn’t agree to it at that point. This duet won them a Grammy and went to number 1. In addition, George helped Aretha achieve her first and only number 1 with this song in the UK. George was always respected by his peers and admired for his songwriting skills and production skills. He collaborated with the best of the best because he was a phenomenal singer. George sold over 125 -150 million records including Wham!, worldwide and you have to remember the majority was all before the age of streaming and downloading. George was adored world wide and rightly so! The duets with Whitney, Ray Charles and Stevie are among the best duets of all time. George sang with Queen, and he blew it out of the stadium.
It was a huge hit, was one of George's dream collabs, and on top of all that it won the Grammy. And you said it-- he duets with the best. Be sure to check out Mary and Whitney.
George Michael is one of the greats and Aretha Franklin is the consummate icon. May they both Rest in Peace/Power. Please check out George’s collabs with Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston.
He also has a song with Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige, Ray Charles, Jody Watley, Paul McCartney. He sang and did a duet on Vh1 and at the Apollo with Stevie Wonder. Lousy footage of it but he sang with Beyonce at one of her shows too.
I think artist don’t last and have that longevity because a lot of them are manufactured based on what is currently being played. It’s rare for artists like George , Prince, Michael, Madonna Janet, Whitney, Celine to exist in today’s world. It’s one artist in and in a few years they are gone. They were true artists not just having vocal chops, but their presence on stage while performing was extraordinary. They didn’t have to have gimmicks, like barely dressed people, and an array of vulgar dancers, their voices and their talent was all that was needed. Remember, George, wrote composed, arranged, produced, sang and played almost all of the instruments on his records. Who does that theses day? Even in his day, it was rare.
George didn't write this song, Aretha was one of his idols, he also dueted with Paul McCartney, Steve Wonder, Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige and others.
Aretha Louise Franklin was an American singer, songwriter and pianist. Referred to as the "Queen of Soul", Rolling Stone twice named her as the greatest singer of all time. Try Aretha's Freeway of Love from the 80's - it's great and features Clarence Clemons on sax from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. Just a great song and video!
Listen to George with Whitney, Mary j , Ray Charles, etc. They became friends, Aretha went to George’s Faith concert n they did this duet. George stayed with Aretha a few days. She introduced him to fried chicken, yams n cauligreens. Won Grammy for best duet. Listen to “ Kissin a fool”
Awesome song. Aretha contacted George because she wanted to do a duet with him, but he held off for awhile.. and she kept on pushing. Finally they got together and it was lit. I could tell this was the 80's because Ms. Aretha was wearing door knocker earrings. lol RIP Aretha & George. xx React to Aretha Franklin's "I Say a Little Prayer", which was another big hit of Aretha's.
Aretha’s voice was a gift from God. She was absolutely unbelievable. You should check out a video when Aretha sang opera at the Grammy Awards, filling in at the last minute for Luciano Pavarotti, who was too ill to perform. Aretha also wrote songs, one of which was Daydreaming. She was a powerhouse in every respect. R.I.P. Queen of Soul. 👏👏❤️
check out his collabs with Whitney Houston :If I Told You That:, Mary J. Blige "As", Queen (at Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert) "Somebody To Love" is a legendary performance and a definite must see/hear. His Live performances are always perfection. You should definitely check out as many of those as possible. Anything from the Concert of Hope in 1993, his performance of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing at the Mandala birthday concert in 1988, his performance of A Different Corner" on the BBC Parkinson Show, anything from the MTV Unplugged Session. All Fire!`
Tina Turner is another Powerhouse female vocalist. You should compare her version of Proud Mary to CCR's version. Also, a different type of power vocal but check out Cher. (Dark Lady- from 70's) and (if I could Turn Back time or Believe from Late 80's into 90's)
True story- when George Michael’s manager saw Clive Davis in the US when George was still in Wham!, Clive suggested that George Michael collaborate with Whitney Houston. As Whitney Houston was standing with him at the time he made the suggestion- Simon Napier-Bell waited to tell Clive that Michael would be a better collab with Aretha. He didn’t want to offend the highly talented Houston. But Michael was a big fan of Aretha and Stevie Wonder.
When they made that video, Neither of them were EVER In the same room. They made the video of each singing their part, then dubbed it together!! Also, one of the couple you didn't know was..Sonny and *CHER*❤❤❤
Not true, they were together, as you can clearly see in the video. Aretha talked about what a joy it was to work on the video with George, who directed it.
@@sonofmargit I beg to differ...Please look at the video again..The one and ONLY time they showed them together, was edited..As was the rest of it..FACT
If you can find it, listen to the song called Heart of Blues done by Three Dog Night. Another one I'd like you to try to find is called Get on This on Chicago's album called Stone of Sisyphus.
I think this was the brainchild of legendary producer/manager/record God Clive Davis (the major driving force behind the careers of Whitney H amongst others), George I think was already planning to launch a solo career and wanted to get away from the ‘boy band’ image of Wham! after 4 years of success with that and I think Aretha had been away from the charts for some time so they were good for each other’s cause. And even though George in the early to mid 80’s was doing great ass part of Wham!, you’re right others were noticing him. Elton John released an album in 1985 (thereabouts) called Ice On Fire. There were at least two singles I remember being released (certainly in the UK), one called Nikita and another called Wrap Her Up which featured GM, George did the backing vocals on the Nikita track 😊
You should react to George Michael singing "Somebody To Love" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert.
The song was so popular George Michael and Aretha Franklin even won the 1987 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
George Michael has a duet with Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston as well. Also had a duet with Stevie Wonder on one of his songs, Love is in need of Love.
It's crazy that Aretha was in her late 40's when this song came out and her voice was still that amazing.
I cannot wait for you to delve into Aretha's work. Her longevity, like Ray Charles, is because she connects at the cellular level across genres.
They dont last because its not real music. I have been listening to George Michael for over 40 years. Miss u G ❤
Aretha's voice will take you through so many emotions. Her catalogue is ridiculous. Any genre of music, Aretha could master it. One of the best.
My friend, George was an icon himself❤❤
Legend!!!!!!!❤️
You can't seriously compare a global star like George with Justin Bieber!!! Never. George was a great singer, Songwriter and producer with a career spanning over 30 years and over 150 million sold records.
Bieber and George...laughable. George is a fricken legend!!
Not in 1987 he wasn't. He was still the pretty boy pop star. Aretha (and probably her management team) saw a little more in him. And they were right.
George has duets with Whitney, MJ Blidge, Lisa Stansfield and Mutya Buena, all great ones

❤❤Goodness Gracious!!!❤❤ Aretha Franklin makes me cry 😢 R.I.P. Aretha & George. 😢
The artist from the 50’s actually had raw talent! With none of the extra auto tunes. This was a great!! I loved this song!❤️❤️❤️

Because there's a lot to see on George with his fabulous rich voice. Aretha knew it too obviously.

Love this song! Not sure which ones you've done, but I'd recommend

-Freedom '90
-One More Try
-Kissing a Fool

Yes it is. Sonny and Cher too . They made aint no mountain High enough. They were paying homage to these singers.
Its a symbolic song, all the duets of other artist, and then him and Aretha. He is a very autobiographical writer, his songs are very personal.
George was the Goat thats why these artist liked doing duets with him. They are amazing together.
One of the very few songs GM didn't write of which he sang on - apart from covers. He was a perfectionist who liked have control of what he released.
M😅😊
Wrote and produced all of his work after trying a producer in Alabama to produce Careless Whisper.
George Michael is one of the greats and Aretha Franklin is the consummate icon. May they both Rest in Peace/Power. Please check out George’s collabs with Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston.
In the spring of 2000, George did a duet with Whitney Houston called If I Told You That and it is an absolute *banger!* You should check it out.

Love, love, love this song. Years ago when I was young, I used to play this video whenever I stopped for a few beers at my local bar. 😀

Aretha’s career was revitalized in 1980 when she gave a memorable performance in the first Blues Brothers movie ! Check it out- “Think!”

He made duets with all the greatest ones
Nr 1 hit in the Netherlands in March 1987
Aretha was one of the founders of MoTown
You should see the video if Nat King Cole with his Daughter.

Bryan Adams with Sting and Rod Stewart
Worth checking out too ❤
And Whitney and Mary J. Blige,
The 2nd two are Sonny & Cher

Sonny and Cher
It's time for George and Whitney Houston, If I told you that, I'll be waiting
The people who lasted for decades started making with great voices. Could stand on stage sing with band and sometimes with a mic.
The second couple in the oldies video was Sonny and Cher, great duos in love
Simon Climie wrote this song.
Ain’t No Mountain High Enough!
