    I lost my left leg to a drink driver in 1992. I had only been married for four months.
    People who drink and drive need to realise that the car they are driving is a weapon of complete destruction. They should be punished accordingly.

      @krashd 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      @@goodbadbill No it can't happen to me - or anyone else who knows how severe the crime is, people might not think rationally when drunk but they do still know right from wrong, the only thing that leads to a drunk getting behind the wheel of a car is them thinking that it's harmless to do so, the sort of people who even when sober would say "It's a harmless crime, cops should be chasing the real bad guys!" If you want to stop drink driving then you need to hammer it home to kids early on that it can kill, and you need to stop glorifying drink driving on TV - I've never seen a single show in the UK where you have people at a bar drinking before jumping in their car yet this scene is prevalent in a lot of US shows and movies, making it look as though it is a socially acceptable crime.

      So sorry about what happened to your husband and the knock on effects to you and your families.
      My dad was murdered by drunken drivers racing each other. I was two and my sister was three. No prison time as it was the early 50s, there was no law for drunken drivers then.
      In my mind it is murder to get into a vehicle whilst drunk because the car becomes a weapon.

      The woman I loved was killed by a drunk driver Christmas Eve. The guy got 5 years. Most people I tell that too think it's not long enough. The sentencing was in April and we had time to learn the drunk drivers story. He was an older man who had never been in trouble with the law. The only person that sat on his side of the courtroom was his glass employer where he had worked for 25 years. The accident could have just as easily been caused by a regular person. It was sad for everyone there that day. In the end, I felt bad for him and how his life would never be the same. I still think about her and wonder how my life would have been different. I wish god hadn't made me an atheist so I could believe I will meet her in heaven.

      Words of sympathy are no use to you i expect, but this is not an unusual thing to occur, with the prisons being full the judges are instructed on sentences given, you have recently seen 4000 released early, just to make way for others, the courts have a backlog of 70000 cases with i believe only 2 new prisons under construction. This is a prime case of Government mismanagement.

      @@naomiemoore5725I disagree. Have you ever reasoned with a drunk person. I didn't think so. Yes we all know that drinking and driving is dangerous. Because you're impaired. What's impaired your brain you're incapable of reasonable decisions. But this is a wedding and many perhaps all were drinking. And she knew he was drinking and perhaps she was also. A sad situation really. Because none of this would've happened if all weren't drinking. Man over the years I seen my friends and family make stupid decisions while drunk. And if I'm there no one is driving. You know instead of coat checks why not check your keys at a bar. At the end of the night when you need your keys a decision will be made on your ability to drive. Same with having a family get together. Keys please. We all have to be responsible. Being drunk isn't an excuse. So many lives lost by good people that were drunk and somehow end up behind the wheel of a vehicle. And the next day when the head clears. Your whole world is upside down. No I really do believe in giving people a chance especially the first time. And looking at all circumstances. Is there family who's the provider so many lives through no fault of theirs. So many things to consider. I understand the hurt both sides. If it's a repeat then by all means there are no second chances. Good people bad choices leaves us with hard decisions.

      @@marwatson7408 She was a 4.0 college student because she applied herself to her studies and you don't know anything about Jamie's whole life. Seriously, did you have a crystal ball on her 24/7? Her father was trying to encourage his daughter who did something "very stupid" and "very, very, VERY bad" (according to him) and he also told her to "learn to buck up and bear it". His daughter just ruined her life and destroyed others (in a worldly view) and everyone was hating on her.... so he tried to make her laugh when she probably spent most of her time in jail sobbing. There's NOTHING wrong with that. She's his daughter and if it was your daughter in her place, you would probably do the same unless you have -0- compassion.

      Truth17john17 Her family knew she had a drinking problem and not once did they try to intervene and get her some help. I believe one of her siblings mentioned that at her bail hearing . The way she was throwing a hissy fit when she was in there and whine about spending 15 years or more years in prison. Not once did she mention the woman she killed and the lives that she has ruined including her own. All she did was talk about herself and complain about her food she is in jail not a five star hotel. Why is it everyone is getting why she is in prison but her it’s like she not taking responsibility. People make mistakes screwing up a cooking recipe is a mistake, getting behind the wheel of a car drunk and plowing into people not a mistake. The bars and restaurants are just as much to blame she was bar hopping all day and you mean to tell me not waitress/waiter or bartender saw that she was intoxicated. They got sue as well and you can tell the groom and two other family members that got hit still have a long road to recovery. The groom made the comment at her sentencing that he has seen more Drs in the last year and a half of his life than he has ever seen in his entire lifetime . As for my daughter I tried to instill in my children to take responsibility for their actions and told them the same thing my mother told me a car is not a toy driving is a privilege not a right and you can have that privilege taken away from you.

These are remorseful words, after which she was instructed to not bring the case up again while on the jail phone line because it was being recorded and was open to the public. So, you actually have no idea of her degree of remorse. so you think it’s OK for people to choose a drunk and drive and kill other people. Let me give you a little lesson. At nine years old I witnessed my 11-year-old brother getting killed by a drunk driver. I can never get that image out of my mind. my mother and father had to bury my 11-year-old brother. I will never get that image out of my mind. My family has never been the same since. And that was over 50 years ago. My dad has died since then, but my mother is still alive. And in her late 80s she still cries herself to sleep every night. And if that wasn’t enough seven years ago, my sisters daughter was killed by a drunk driver, and she had a bury her daughter. so I suggest to you before you make any comments about something you don’t know. Maybe you should do some research. Or put yourself on other people’s shoes. How would you feel if your child was killed by drunk driver? There is no excuse for drinking and driving. It is not a mistake. It is a choice. If you choose gotten drink, you get a Uber or a taxi. To me, she deserves life in prison for killing an innocent woman.

Non emergency can help, I'm sure an officer would much rather assist getting someone who's drunk home than responding to crashes involving drunk driving. This has got to damn stop. There are people who get a lot more for doing a lot less. 25 years is literally the standard for driving drunk, which would result in death. In the end the psychological damage placed upon the family has already been done. What was supposed to be a night of celebration, love and support for the union of two people ended up a nightmare which destroyed the lives of two families, most of all the groom. I don’t even know how someone can be able to continue with faith after that. Here’s hoping that one day he along with the rest his family and his late wife’s family find peace.

      It was actually the lives of three families she destroyed. Not only Samantha and Aric’s families. But her own too! At the very least, she’ll be in her late 40s before she can be eligible for early release.
      Jamie’s crime requires her to serve at least 80-85% of her sentence. Meaning she’ll be in prison for the next 20 years!

Jamie made numerous bad decisions with alcohol and caused Samantha's death, but didn't set out that night to kill her. Sentences seem pretty just from my POV given the circumstances of each crime.

    Huge difference in sentences between the US and Canada. Millionaire Marco Muzzo was in Miami for his bachelor party and took a private jet home. He could have had a driver pick him up but he decided to drive drunk, 3 times the legal limit. Killed all three children of a couple and their grandfather. Sentenced to 10 years and walked after 5. The father of the 3 children killed himself the day after Father's Day, 2022. Ruined an entire family and did 5 lousy years for 4 lives.

      Considering that hundreds of thousands of other people were driving while inebriated at the exact same time Jamie was, her question is a logical one. I work in prison ministry and have encountered many Jamies. They ALL ask that question, especially the ones who never committed a crime before they were arrested for a DUI vehicular homicide.

    • @lucindatwo9921
      @lucindatwo9921 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Truth17John17 Doesn't make it ok, and you left something out. By the time the vast majority of drunk drivers are actually caught and held accountable, they've already driven under the influence many, many times before. I'm quite certain that's the situation here. The fact that other impaired drivers also feel like victims in scenarios such as these doesn't surprise me one bit. It takes a special kind of arrogance and entitlement to disregard the safety of everyone else on the road because you're too irresponsible to arrange for alternative transportation when you know you're going to be drinking. She didn't get unlucky that day. The bride and groom did. They didn't deserve what happened to them. She does! Period!!

    • @Truth17John17
      @Truth17John17 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lucindatwo9921 I never said what Jamie did was okay. I never said Jamie didn't deserve her sentence. I never said the bride and groom deserved their fate. Twisting words and/or putting words in another's mouth is a form of manipulation. It's called gaslighting. You like to argue just for the sake of arguing and I don't have time for that nonsense. I lost a daughter to a drunk driver but I still have more compassion and empathy than many for every person involved in this tragedy, including the defendant. I try to see people the way God sees them, and He has a whole lot more mercy and grace than the people slamming Jamie as if she intentionally orchestrated a murder. Thankfully, you/they aren't the judge or jury.

    • @lucindatwo9921
      @lucindatwo9921 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Truth17John17 Lucky for her. I would've sentenced her to life. As for gaslighting, nobody's gaslighting you. I just don't happen to agree with you. Not the same thing at all. I am sorry about your daughter, though. I have a daughter of my own and I worry about her every time she's on the road. The idea that someone could do something like that to her and then act like this woman did in the videos I saw does not inspire a sympathetic response from me. Also, I found her little speech disingenuous af. She's had time for it to sink in, and she still doesn't seem to be able to muster up any genuine remorse. I have a problem with that, and my opinion of her isn't likely to change. Not gaslighting you, just stating my opinion, which I'm entitled to.
