  • How to remove pooling water off a Flat Roof. Leaves and debris constantly clog roof drains. This causes someone to go up on the roof and constantly have to remove debris from around the drain.
Instead, do away with the drain or in addition to the drain, create a channel that will always remove standing water no matter what.
Why install a channel on your flat roof?
    1. Debris and leaves cant easily clog it
    2. less maintenance is required to keep the water flowing
    3. Relatively less costly to install and maintain
    4. A more sure way to ensure water draining off the roof
Why is pooling water bad for a flat roof?
    1. Standing water deteriorate rubber roof materials
    2. Standing water promotes plant and moss growth
    3. It provides a breeding ground for mosquitos
    4. Ponding water adds stress to the roof structure
    5. Standing water will cause protective Ultraviolet coatings to peel off

Interesting my roof was recovered with epdm ,removing the old,and next day i went up to see the work after a rain and it was ponding at least 11/2 inches due to sag where the original crack in ceiling that i did not deal with came down...problem was additionally that the problem was not roof as was the leveling and no slope,or orginal drain...is it the sagging rafters or no tapered layer or no wood above the rafters...at least to level the surface then to cover multiple layers of insulation board..
There is a a gutter around the periphery..this is over a den with nice things inside..i believe that it needs to be pulled up,covered with a retrofit slanted metal roof, you cannot make a channel as its just over the ceiling...and i also repaired the half room ceiling which was alot of work...ass backwards..8000.00 roof membrane then 1200 ceiling drywall...

You cut the top plate that support the rafter in half for the drain. That will weaken the support. It is a good idea to drain the water on the roof but not good to the structure. Especially you made a straight 90º cut. It will be easy crack and split.

I have the same issue. The roof needs to have some kind of slope added where the water will run off into the gutters.

Any sitting water becomes a problem eventually. Look for materials so change this. A flat roof material will settle, compress causing pooling. Get the water off the roof.

Once again a want to be roofer with little to no training he might have helped a real roofer for a month or two and went on his own with no idea how it should be done her makes it up as he goes so only a fool would hire this guy use your hard earned money on a proffessional roofer sad part is at the end where there is still ponding on roof he thinks he fixed it
