By accepting Anakin at such a late age, the jedi council was also responsible and should have understood the stronger attachment Anakin felt towards his mother and perhaps others.

To them, it was a risk they ultimately took "that they wouldn't have took otherwise" they only bit the bullet with that choice because of anakin's rare and incredibly powerful connection with the force... being the choosen one so to speak, to them it was worth the risk because of the potential he had to contribute with his prowess.

@@wyveriusblackfire3834 what's saddest is that he probably saw him as his little brother. They were both padawans of Qui Gon, and in a way they were both orphaned by him when Maul killed him.
Obi-wan raised anakin pretty much by himself as well as trained him and mentored him so that he could be the best jedi he could possibly be. He "failed" but it wasn't entirely his fault, the jedi council had rigid ways and offered anakin no means to overcome his trauma and the murderous rage that dwelled within him. The Jedi merely took a motherless child filled with rage and fear and turned him into an elite soldier all while trying to clip the only other attachment aside from obi-wan that fostered any feelings of kindness and love in him.

Because Obi-Wan found bits and pieces of his humanity when he was training Anakin, who was already exposed to so many attachments, and had suffered greatly as an outcast Padawan, and a slave. He was not without empathy to Anakin's struggles being an outcast before Qui-Gon came to train him.
Obi-Wan knew the Jedi way was to let go, but as a friend and a fellow human being, he knew if one person in the Galaxy deserved some semblance of Happiness, it would be his son....his brother, Anakin, because he knew from the get go, Anakin's training was not traditional anyways.

Or, you know, his past relationship with Satine and how the two developed feelings for one another but decided set aside whatever feelings they had for each other and continue on with their duties and responsibilities (being a Jedi annf being a leader of the New Mandalorians respectively). Obi-Wan deep down regretted not being with her and was worse when she died thx to Maul when Satine confessed that she still loved him and so wanted Anakin to not have to make the same decision he did and let him experience something that he himself couldn’t by keeping Anakin’s marriage with Padmé a secret.

This is one of the reasons why I hold Obi-wan as my favorite character in all of Star Wars. He is THE Jedi of the series, one who holds the ideals of the Jedi dear, but never loses his connection with those around him, and complete strangers. Luke is the best Jedi of the new era (at least in Legends) by understanding the faults of the order and finding a new path for the Jedi. Obi-Wan, however, is the best of the previous era as he was an example of what a jedi should be: compasionate, but not detached from others; always willing to reach an understanding, but ready to fight in self-defense; and willing to break the jedi dogma if he felt it hampered his ability to do good for others.

That is one of Anakin's best qualities, his loyalty to those he trusts. As Ahsoka, herself told Ezra, "What would have surprised people was how kind he was. He cared deeply about his friends and looked out for them until the end."
That's why so many people could get along with him, Rex, the other Clones, Ahsoka, R2, Obi-Wan, and so on. True that loyalty could be manipulated as Palpatine did, but still it was always coming from a good place that loyalty and trust. That's why he never seems to mind when Obi-Wan or even Ahsoka talks about him and Padme, or why he even let Rex in on it too, as seen in both Clone Wars season 7 and the unfinished episodes the first 4 were based on. While they obviously don't know about the marriage they can all tell those two have feelings for each other, and while Obi-Wan may have some concerns he respects their decisions and hopes it will all work out in the end, just like the others.
And boy thanks to Palpatine's meddling did they bet the wrong Tantan in that race. XD.

    b) Obi-Wan had his own troubles with the Jedi-Code (Duchess Satin was just one of the women Obi-Wan would have left the order for if she told him that she wanted them to be together! Siri Tachi a fellow padawan was another, as were Lena Cobral and Cerasi)

Obi-wan is put in the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" position. Him ignoring Anakin and Padme's relationship like he did throughout the prequels resulted in Anakin becoming Darth Vader, Padme dying, and Luke and Leia being seperated at birth. Even if Obi-wan had told the Jedi council about what Mr. and Mrs. Skywalker were doing behind their backs, they will expel Anakin which will result in him hating both Obi-wan and the Jedi for rejecting him thus, he still becomes Darth Vader and helps Emperor Sidious kill them all only to fail against Obi-wan.
Obi-wan was going to lose Anakin to the Sith no matter what he had done.

If Obi-wan had told the Council about Anakin and Padme around the time of RotS Padme may have ended up joining Anakin to spite the Jedi for what they did to Anakin. Throw Luke and Leia in the mix, and the threat of the Jedi forcefully taking them away and Padme could break.

I think one of the flaws of the Jedi Council was asking Anakin to spy on Palpatine, thus creating a rift between his moral values and the Jedi Council ,pushing him further away from the Jedi as they are in his eyes; doing evil acts. They should've found another way or someone else to do this.

The whole *no attachments* rule was horrible since anakin couldn't open up about his feelings and had to hide his relationship. The amount of jedi that turned due to this piece of shit rule is astounding
Not making him a master. It makes no sense. He and obi wan headlined the clone wars, he was on the front lines constantly and achieved a shit ton of victories, including defeating a sith lord. Yet they still don't treat him with respect (like that time he wasn't told obi wan wasnt actually dead)
Being responsible for never seeing through Palpatines deception and playing his game like lap dog bitches
Falsely accusing his padawan Ahsoka for something she didnt do, which ultimately left Anakin heartbroken and feeling somewhat betrayed

    • @Burning-Twilight
      @Burning-Twilight 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

They didn't make him a master not because he hadn't proved himself in battle. Of that they knew he was one of their best. No it was because of his emotions. He had serious problems keeping his emotions in check. Now mind you this is because of his tragic childhood and hardships and of course not getting the proper help to deal with it. But for the Jedi they thought he should have brushed all of this aside or at least better handled them on his own.
In short if Anakin had been more emotionally stable/mature they probably would have made him a master after killing Dooku.

It's an interesting shift we see in Obi-Wan's growth over the course of his time in the SWU. He's trained by a bit of a rogue, takes on the role of training someone the High Council didn't even want trained out of a sense of loyalty to his deceased Master, becomes almost ideological in how he views the Force and Jedi as a Master himself, then slowly realizes some of the ideals he's espousing aren't as black and white as the HC would have him believe and begins to make decisions based on loyalty instead (again). Too bad that personal growth came full circle after Anakin had already been pushed to the brink of the Dark Side in desperation over potentially losing Padme and only needed the catalyst of seeing the hypocrisy of members of the HC at work to push him over the edge.

Therefore, Obi didn't want to feel like a hypocrite.

    1. As a teacher, Obiwan wanted Anakin to figure this relationship out on his own, the same way he had to figure out Dutchess Satine. Outside interference would only make it worse.
    2. At the start of the Clone Wars on Geonsis when Padme fell out the gunship, Anakin told Obiwan he was ready to quit the Order right then to save her.
This meant Obiwan had to tred lightly as Anakin was already one foot out the door. Obiwan didn't want what could be the greatest Jedi the Order had ever seen rage quitting so easily.
    3. There was a bit of ego there on Obiwan's part. He made a promise to Qui-Gon to train Anakin, and Obiwan also wanted to be a Jedi Master. In order to obtain the rank of Jedi Master, he would have to find a way to mentally get Anakin ready for the Jedi Trials. So allowing Anakin to walk away from the Jedi Order would of be failure on Obiwan's part both to his dying Master and his Career.

The way I see in the prequel movies, it would seem that some Jedi shut down their emotions to not let the dark side get to them. But the more they struggle, the more it would hurt when the emotions of pain and suffering comes back. There was no shame to have attachments, in the case of characters in the books, detachments would only lead to pain and depression.
Taking a look at bonds between student and mentor, it seemed that sometimes that the emotional attachments whether it was a family member or a partner, it was the strongest boost the character can be given. Even in the end that nothing works out, we have to value while it lasts with loved ones.
Take it from Katniss Everdeen, the reason she keeps fighting in the Hunger Games, was because after she took her younger sister's place in the Games, all Katniss can ever think of was going home for her mother and sister, even if it means that something traumatic will happen.
In the end, it came to the point that Katniss can't save everyone she cared about, even her sister. But to honor her, she and Peeta wrote a book dedicated to Prim (Katniss' sister), and to all others they lost.

This is the type of thing that would have been really nice to see in the prequels. Not having it is why it's so jarring to see Anakin and Obiwan go from constantly arguing in Episode 2 to palling around at the beginning of Episode 3. Obiwan needed to have some kind of character arc related to his handling of Anakin, a point in Attack of the Clones where he stops trying to fight Anakin, choosing instead a more flexible approach. Instead all the most important and interesting character development happens off-screen.
