  • The plan in the long run with this build is to outfit all the typical goodies like bumpers, a winch, sliders, etc. and eventually upgrade the suspension to accommodate the extra weight, but for now I want to run my 36x13.5 IROK's that measure out to almost 37" so I can have fun this winter. It took some fender trimming and building custom bump stop spacers, but they fit and don't rub!

    It's amazing how much wheel well space the 80 series has. Great video, and nice work on how thorough you were during the install, measuring, testing, etc....

    Just installed 37s on mine (3.5 in Dobinsons lift).
    Excited to see how you do this whole thing with stock height

    There are these things, mysterious and foreign to most mere mortals but us propane bobtail guys up in the rocks use them two, three, twelve times a day, in the winter. They are called tire chains. PEWAGs are the best. The 80 series with 265/75R16s will clear the thickest of them easy and then you just don't need lockers in the snow or mud.

    Do you sell the bumpstop spacers? I like your design with the rivnut in the perch and the flat head hex.

    How did you get 15” rims to fit on your 80?

    • @ruegs_21
      @ruegs_21 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There were no clearance issues with the front axle but I ran as thin of a spacer as possible in the rear to clear the caliper. If I remember correctly it was a 3/16” thick wheel spacer. The spacer thickness when paired with the thinner steel wheels was almost the same thickness as the 16” factory aluminum wheels with no spacer, so the amount of threads used buy the lug nuts was close to stock. I still had to break the edges on the rear calipers to eliminate all rubbing but it only took a few kisses from a flap disc, no major material removal. I ran that setup for almost two years before upgrading to 17” wheels for a better tire size selection and wheel fitment.

    So what did the spacers end up being 1" 2"?

    • @Revery4x4
      @Revery4x4  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1” front and 1.25” rear

    As little lift as possible with as big wheels as possible is the way to go in my opinion. A tall lift ruins the center of gravity, and makes it useless in off camber situations.

    Buy the XJ and cut out the middle man.

      This is the proper approach to modifying a 4x4, nice work. Some people throw aftermarket parts and money at it then wish they didnt. Others, well... "You're ruining it" and "good luck". Haha some people are just brutal. Good luck and enjoy the 80. My hdj81 will be getting big rubber soon enough

    37's on stock suspension? hahhaa, what a joke of a build. I doubt you'll do your build as stated above after you've destroyed it.

      This is just the starting point to gather data from use. I’m approaching this one step at a time and plan to add mods and upgrades based on what does and doesn’t work out on the trail.

      Been done successfully many times resulting in a much better ride than lifting to achieve the same
