I love the Hohem iSteady V2. The fact that it can track you with the AI sensor and understand hand commands is great. You are able to use other independent apps or the gimbal itself independently. I also learned that it can be combined with an optional Hohem remote and Stick combination that gives it an extra added capability for remote use as well. That right there would be my pick with all the great capabilities.

Right to the point and informative video, easy to decide which one is good for whom. In my opinion, after watching your video, I'll go with Zhiyun Smooth Q3. Good grip and function, nice design, and affordable price.
I prefer the Hohem iSteady V2. All the other gimbals require that you use the apps for the most part and the DJI and Zoom apps get awful reviews. The V2 lets you use hand gestures to start and stop recording, take photos, change from landscape to portrait, etc and you can use any app you want, whereas the other two gimbals require using the app. I got the iSteady V2 on sale today for $99, plus you can buy an extendable selfie stick which includes a removable remote for even more control not offered on the other gimbals. For that reason and the $99 deal, it's a no-brainer. Most every reviewer picks the iSteady V2 because you can now use your own apps and not be locked into their app.

I sure do appreciate the honest professional way you evaluate the good and the bad of each gimbal. I have the DJI Osmo Mobile 3, the Zhiyun Smooth Q3, and have ordered the Hohem iSteady V2. My main reason for the V2 would probably be the size. I try to have a gimbal with me all the time. The size of the V2 is definitely an advantage to me. I have a pocket in my back pack that is just right for the V2. The others I have wouldn't fit that pocket, and just took up too much room. And, of course the AI Tracking is a big plus. I have the iSteady V2 simply for the tracking feature that I used in several different apps, as well as using with my GoPro. True, battery is only 9 hours but I rarely film more than a few hours at a time anyway. I like that its lightweight. I also have the DJI OM 5 and I like it but only for the extension pole and rarely use it.
As a new photographer, I think gimbals are really cool as they help you shooting smooth and great footage. I don´t have any gimbal so far but I would really like to have one so I could shoot nice videos without those shaky movements. But nevertheless one should not forget what a gimbal is made for and what one can get the most of it not forgetting the core purpose of a gimbal.👍🏻
Hohem iSteady V2 is the real deal if you are a beginner like me in vlogging and starting to get the feel of using stabilizers like gimbals. Its features are at par with high end counterparts but so easy on the pocket.
I got the OM4, actually the magnetic clamp is on the back of my 12 promax now. I enjoy using the beauty mode of it, because it gives a different look compared to my iPhones camera and my Insta 360. This is why I enjoy DJI’s variant, it gives a different look.
Very useful analysis among these products. It helps people depending on the point of view. price, quality, battery,... I'm using the DJI OM4 currently, but if I would need to buy another one now, perhaps I would take into consideration some other features like those offered by the iSteady V2. I like the portability advantage of the the iSteady V2 that fits easily in a pocket with reasonable weight. The V2 auto follow has one major advantage in that the follows more of the image, in fact your . Other gimbals use face recognition only, that centers your face in the middle of the screen, with too much space above which looks very weird and obviously wrong. The kit version has the extension tripod and remote that can be handy for group capture with hand motions for control. Great video Otto!

Hi Otto. Thanks for the great reviews. I bought the Q3 and I like it except for one problem. When I’m in PF mode and I tilt it forward, lower than the gimbal can manage (the range is not so great as you noticed in your video), when I return the gimbal to vertical, the phone is no longer vertical and has a slight lean. Do you experience this also? I tried calibrating but it doesn’t help. It’s too bad the range is not greater in PF so one can hold it like a flashlight.
hi! yes, with this gimbal if you go past the tilt angle it will not return to the original position. This is a problem with tilt angles on smartphone gimbals and a big limitation as well. What I do for this is I "get to know the gimbal I'm using" and I try not to push the tilt to its limit

I picked up a V2 as my fist gimbal. I love how steady it is, and it's super small and lightweight. Once I noticed the relatively shallow tilt range, I panicked and started watching tons of video comparisons. Now that I've used it more, it's not as big a deal for me. The tilt range only really seems relevant when using the joystick. You can tilt the whole gimbal and still get smooth tilt motion in video. Now I'm liking my choice more because the V2 is super small and easy to carry :)
On the OM3, you can mark the location of where to put the clamp on your phone by placing one of your business cards on the back of your phone! A business card is practically the same size as the clamp! Plus, if it wears down your card, simply replace it! Can't do that with a worn out spot on your phone!

The other vids I've watched were looking at their use with the S21 as it was something I hadn't considered with my first gimbal and it didn't like the weight. Thanks for the video I am in the market I need the tracking I use a s21 ultra it is a deal breaker if I can not use the pro mode and change the frame per second. Will I have an issue with the isteady V2? I need tracking and manual focus
Hi Joe, the V2 has the tracking sensor so you will be able to track without their app. The tracking sensor is pointing towards the selfie mode, that's my only concern. If you need to track other people, I'm working on a trick but I still need to run some tests and then post it for everyone else

It's going to be the OM 4 SE as I don't want to do the balancing each time. Also I see in other reviews that the Zhiyun app seems to collect a lot of user data via the account. In your opinion, is balancing the phone significantly easier, quicker with the DJI OM SE4?
hello! you are welcome! the magnetic clamp makes it easier to remove and place the phone, back and forth, and I like using it when I travel but I know that I need to remove my phone constantly (maps, messages, taking notes, pictures, etc). Not so sure about Zhiyun collecting user data, so I can't really comment on that....

I have that model and it has the same issue with every gimbal company, mostly no 60fps inside the app. I just use the regular native camera app when I need to shoot 60fps

Im looking for 3 axis gimbal which is much more useful compared to 2 axis. Does the short tilt arm of the hohem affects the video recording/usage? And is it enough if i get the hohem steadyX for its 3 axis and affordable price? (Compared between these three gimbals in the review) Thankyou!
it doesn't affect unless you need more tilting angles. This will depend on your shooting style. The hohem gimbal is good, but with a few limitations such as the tilting angle, and not being the best for heavier phones.

hi, it doesn't track objects, since the person is the one who activates the tracking with their hand I guess their AI looks for the human shape/face. Haven't really tested the range of it, but I will as soon as I get a chance
@@OttoJulian_ Yeah that makes sense for using the AI, but I guess if you use the app, then you draw the square around whatever object to track...that would be great to test the range of it before it loses you, I'm wondering if it's 20ft or so...
Great video as usual. The 4 gimbals comparison is the best I've seen so far. Price wise for sure the isteadyx is a great deal, but OM4 is another level.

Sadly the pandemic stopped me for a while but I'm widening my horizon to videography and learning the drone footage (despite the restrictions 🤬). Planning to vlog once back in the Philippines and around Asia where I live and work.

Photography started as a passion when I was more than just a kid and with time became my profession. But as said, times and situations are widening my views to videography and aerial video/photography too.
@@thescienceofit that too, but mostly because bigger tripods have a 3/8" screw, and the one on the gimbals is 1/4". usually with tripods you will have something like a ballhead on top of the tripod. smaller tripods will usually have 1/4" screws so you can just place any gimbal there

Sure. The OM5 was just released so back then on July we just had the OM4. Anyway, the OM4 will also remain out on the market as dji will still be selling it probably until the OM6 comes out. So it's fair to say that I will be comparing them both too (4vs5)

It's hard to choose one or the other as the best gimbal. I like different features from different gimbals. For the ultra I'd get either the smooth Q3 or the OM4

I thought gimbal will track me anyways but if I don't connect by bluetooth I can't use tracking mode , if I connect I can't use my android phone's 4K 60 frame spesification... I can choose iSteady cz it cracks , but this time I can't have panaromic or time lapse modes ? really tiring ...
yeah, it's a bit tricky. I guess what you can do is to switch from app to app depending on what you need to do. Timelapse with their app (you won't need tracking etc), regular videos with your smartphone camera app, and so on. This is the way I do it to be honest, seems we can't have it all
it depends on what you value the most. The idea of comparing them is for you to figure what you need and what you don't care about. I like the magnetic clip for easy "on and off". is this something that you would appreciate? same goes for the rest of the features

yeah this is true, maybe the only downside is if someone has a bigger phone, but other than that it's perfect for beginners

I picked up a V2 as my fist gimbal. I love how steady it is, and it's super small and lightweight. Once I noticed the relatively shallow tilt range, I panicked and started watching tons of video comparisons. Now that I've used it more, it's not as big a deal for me. The tilt range only really seems relevant when using the joystick. You can tilt the whole gimbal and still get smooth tilt motion in video. Now I'm liking my choice more because the V2 is super small and easy to carry :)

On the OM3, you can mark the location of where to put the clamp on your phone by placing one of your business cards on the back of your phone! A business card is practically the same size as the clamp! Plus, if it wears down your card, simply replace it! Can't do that with a worn out spot on your phone!

The other vids I've watched were looking at their use with the S21 as it was something I hadn't considered with my first gimbal and it didn't like the weight. hi, the Smooth 4 is an older model, more buttons on the handle, but I've never used it so I can't say too much about it. I get the feeling that they might release something to replace the smooth 4 soon....

Thanks for the video I am in the market I need the tracking I use a s21 ultra it is a deal breaker if I can not use the pro mode and change the frame per second. Will I have an issue with the isteady V2? I need tracking and manual focus
Hi Joe, the V2 has the tracking sensor so you will be able to track without their app. The tracking sensor is pointing towards the selfie mode, that's my only concern. If you need to track other people, I'm working on a trick but I still need to run some tests and then post it for everyone else

Hi Otto thanks so much for this comprehensive comparison. I'm looking for a gimbal because my kid wants to vlog and we have iPhones lying around the house. It's going to be the OM 4 SE as I don't want to do the balancing each time. Also I see in other reviews that the Zhiyun app seems to collect a lot of user data via the account. In your opinion, is balancing the phone significantly easier, quicker with the DJI OM SE4?
hello! you are welcome! the magnetic clamp makes it easier to remove and place the phone, back and forth, and I like using it when I travel but I know that I need to remove my phone constantly (maps, messages, taking notes, pictures, etc). Not so sure about Zhiyun collecting user data, so I can't really comment on that....

I have that model and it has the same issue with every gimbal company, mostly no 60fps inside the app. I just use the regular native camera app when I need to shoot 60fps

Im looking for 3 axis gimbal which is much more useful compared to 2 axis. Does the short tilt arm of the hohem affects the video recording/usage? And is it enough if i get the hohem steadyX for its 3 axis and affordable price? (Compared between these three gimbals in the review) Thankyou!
it doesn't affect unless you need more tilting angles. This will depend on your shooting style. The hohem gimbal is good, but with a few limitations such as the tilting angle, and not being the best for heavier phones.

the iSteady X2 comes with a remote control. This remote control can be purchased by itself and it will work with the iSteady V2 as well.

hi, it doesn't track objects, since the person is the one who activates the tracking with their hand I guess their AI looks for the human shape/face. Haven't really tested the range of it, but I will as soon as I get a chance
@@OttoJulian_ Yeah that makes sense for using the AI, but I guess if you use the app, then you draw the square around whatever object to track...that would be great to test the range of it before it loses you, I'm wondering if it's 20ft or so...
Great video as usual. The 4 gimbals comparison is the best I've seen so far. Price wise for sure the isteadyx is a great deal, but OM4 is another level.

yes you can do that, for bigger tripods you might want to use something like a quick-release plate

@@thescienceofit that too, but mostly because bigger tripods have a 3/8" screw, and the one on the gimbals is 1/4". usually with tripods you will have something like a ballhead on top of the tripod. smaller tripods will usually have 1/4" screws so you can just place any gimbal there

I think the comparison should be om5 vs hohem steady v2 vs zhiyun as the om4 is 1 year older released. Sorry i am new in this gimbal knowledge. 😅
Sure. The OM5 was just released so back then on July we just had the OM4. Anyway, the OM4 will also remain out on the market as dji will still be selling it probably until the OM6 comes out. So it's fair to say that I will be comparing them both too (4vs5)

It's hard to choose one or the other as the best gimbal. I like different features from different gimbals. For the ultra I'd get either the smooth Q3 or the OM4

I thought gimbal will track me anyways but if I don't connect by bluetooth I can't use tracking mode , if I connect I can't use my android phone's 4K 60 frame spesification... I can choose iSteady cz it cracks , but this time I can't have panaromic or time lapse modes ? really tiring ...
yeah, it's a bit tricky. I guess what you can do is to switch from app to app depending on what you need to do. Timelapse with their app (you won't need tracking etc), regular videos with your smartphone camera app, and so on. This is the way I do it to be honest, seems we can't have it all

it depends on what you value the most. The idea of comparing them is for you to figure what you need and what you don't care about. I like the magnetic clip for easy "on and off". is this something that you would appreciate? same goes for the rest of the features
