  • After a few sessions getting used to short lines I could compare back to back with standard lines and here it is a list of the main pros about using 10 meter lines on a small foil kite.
The main reason is to increase wind range allowing using it on stronger winds.
The main disadvantage is the compromise on water start but after a while I got used to it backstalling and turning on the power zone.
The first clip using 10m lines with a 6m @Flysurfer Soul:

8th point is controversy... shorter lines also means smaller wind window and also less wind speed since the kite will be closer to the water surface... thus, we could expect a smaller wind range

Yes. I did it intentionally but my perception was better upwind angles and more speed since the kite is more steady giving more control and confidence to hit the gas. Or maybe it’s just me… anyways I definitely suggest one should try for a few sessions to see how it behaves.

@@cefirmeza I think the main point that short lines increase top end is not controversial. However, they also reduce bottom end, so it's not clear they increase total overall wind range.

@@TylerKaraszewski good point. But also in my experience reducing lines length gave me way more top end than low end reduction. Once you nail the waterstart on shorter lines things get easier. But in general for the average kiter longer lines are usually more efficient.

Hey nice video! Do you have any experience on the bigger soul models or foil kites in general? I've always wondered if a setup like yours (10m + 6m kite) would behave like a scaled down 12m with 20m lines... Sure material weight stays the same but the ratios (kite to lines) would end up being pretty similar

Sorry I just used 6m because we have consistent strong winds and for my weight 60kg the 6m suits me even on 10+ knots

10 meter lines are too short for souls, plus your kite needs the z line to be properly set to avoid stalling. Optimum lenght if you want short lines is 12 to 13 meters, and those meters make a huge difference

Thanks! I have a 14m set and will try it soon.
