I am into the big game hunting and I just fell in love with Howa I prefer Howa 1500 24inch bullbarrel in 30- 06 and the 375 H+H for my hunting. Your information on these calibers is so accurate. I have a Ruger American in 22 WMR and a Howa 1500 in 6.5 CR and love both of them. Howa definately feels like a much more expensive rifle but both easily shoot MOA for me and are great value for money! In a centrefire I would take the Howa but love the RA in 22s.

I have a Howa and I bought one for my son as well! Fantastic rifles incredible underrated. Great 2 stage trigger than can easily be adjusted down to 2lbs. Bolt and action are forged steel and nicely machined. The action is machined on an endmill from steel forging. It does not get any better than that!

I’ve got the R/A in 22-250, and I’ve got HOWA’s in 243 (x2), and 223 with a 223 in CMC Australian Mountaineer, which is essentially a HOWA. The 22-250 is a nice rifle that hits hard and punches holes in holes, but for basic functionality and general feel, I’d give it to the HOWA. I’ve also had a magazine break down in the R/A, and the $130 price tag for the replacement left a bad taste in my mouth, coupled with the fact that the replacement didn’t feel that much better than the original one. But, in saying all that, I’ll be keeping the R/A simply because it’s a Laser Beam. Gods vid. Always like your vids. Cheers from Down Under.

I was very close to purchasing a Howa1500 in their Whitetail combo with the scope, hogue stock, bipod and 10rd dbm but ended up getting a Mauser m18 for several reasons. I still really like Howas and might still pick one up in the future, but i would love to see you review the m18 and possibly compare it to the Howa1500.

I have a couple Wby Vanguard rifles I bought a few years ago. They are fine rifles, and available at a rather attractive price point. When I was in the market for a 300 PRC, I looked at both the Howa 1500 and the Bergara Hunter.
Opted for the Howa because of the great feel it offers in my large hands. Sharing the same pedigree with my Vanguards also cinched the decision for me. Do you handload for your 300 PRC? Which brand and bullet weight does your 300 PRC seem to like best. Going to be working up an elk load for Wyoming this fall.
    Thx!

Hi, having both in .308 I do agree with all your remarks. Just add - when I squeeze trigger on Ruger - I hear noise from trigger's coil spring. According to me, Ruger is unexptionally precise rifle for ranges to 150 meters (partly given to balistics datas of my ammo - approx. 150m when it secondly breaks level of aim). It's fully comparable even for longer distances in skilled hands. But than Howa taking it's advantages due to longer barrel and your groups will be significantly better with Howa arround and over 300 meters. For me, I like to travel and walk for hunt with empty gun - when I need load: taking magazine from pocket - Ruger is loaded in a second. For that; Howa haves optional magazine conversion (you spent more🤷‍♂️). Ruger is working horse, more smart, lighter, cheaper, will do it's job and for the money - very VEry VERY precise. Good for daily use in country forestry, for family competition or challange with neighbors. You'll not regret. Howa for me means improvement or needs for longer ranges, haves bit better craftmanship from gunsmith, and also needs to say; it's different price category.

Thank you for a great comparo. I have several expensive rifles including custom made Mausers and some rare MCA Mannlichers. I also have a Ruger American 1st generation rifle in 350 Legend and with a Crimson Trace red dot on it (the total came to well below $300 three plus years ago when my daughter saved up her money to buy both for me) and it has accounted for more than 200 pigs here in Texas. The rifle is light, very accurate and comfortable to carry in the heat here. As you rightly point out, it is American manufactured too. As an old man who is far from perfect himself, I find the Ruger more than enough to do it's job and I think it will be in fine shape long after I am called to the next world. understand that some seek the ultimate in refinement. I guess I am happy to enjoy ridding Texas of pigs and helping do it with a budget but very reliable and effective rifle is the icing on the cake. Good hunting to you, and stay blessed always.

Very good video comparing those 2 comparable rifles in 7.62X39. I just wanted to add another GREAT rifle somewhat in about the same price range if you get the nylon stock. I have the CZ527 in 7.62X39 but it has a BEAUTIFUL TURKISH WALNUT STOCK. I like that it does have IRON SIGHTS. BUT were it really shines is the TRIGGER, single set.😳😯 It's a GREAT TRIGGER, even when it isn't set it's not BAD. The trigger can be adjusted in not just weight, travel, take up. On the internet there is a GREAT video that nicely explains and shows the different adjustments. I also like how the top of reciever is machined so the rings (16mm) fastens directly, no other part to come loose and more choices where it is mounted. 🤔😁👍. Oh yeah it's a SHOOTER.😁👍

Is there any difference in the Action, Trigger or Barrel between the Howa 1500 and the Howa Stalker? (Looking at 6.5 Grendel "Mini Action") The difference in price is about $500 which may be accounted for by the carbon fiber stock in the Stalker. But I wonder if any of the parts are improved in the Stalker?

    • @Bullets4Bucks

All Howas except the .22lr rifles use a Howa 1500 action. They make the m1500 action in 3 sizes mini short and long. I do think the mini might not use metal bottom metal like the short and long but I could be wrong. Any Howa mini is essentially the same barreled action but may feature a different contour barrel. The stalker comes in mini, short and long depending on the caliber all are 1500 actions

Have Ruger Am in 243 and Howa 1500 in 22-250. My observations, both shoot equally well, as do my other "entry level" rifles (XPR, Rem 788, Savage Axis). However, the stock on the American is one reason why the American is priced so well, it is a complete POS, was replaced, as were all of the other rifles with a Boyds. The Howa Hogue Stock is OK, just haven't got around to swapping. I do like one thing with the American and the XRP VS the Howa, Rem, and Savage, and that is the 3 lug bolt. Shorter lift, faster to cycle, AND much easier to operate with a scope.

Howa is more old school bolt gun like the 700 70 and 77 as far as feel and looks and in function. The American is a fine rifle but it just kinda feels cheap. Let’s not forget a Weatherby Vanguard is also a Howa 1500 and Weatherby offers more cartridge choices that what Howa offers.

True, if you add 550 dollars worth of upgrades to the American to match the price of this howa you could get your bolt polished, fluted and micro slick coated, get a smoother cocking piece and lighter firing pin spring and Timney trigger and blow the howa away for the same price. Apples to apples is a better informational video.

I just got a Howa 1500 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Only problem is the trigger weight, it was way too heavy and made accurate shooting impossible. I went to back off the weight on the adjustment screw and it was already backed all the way out and not even touching the spring. So I removed the 2 pins that hold the trigger and the catch (not sure what that's called) to get at the spring and cut a little off (about 1.5 rounds), I figured it was safe to remove this much as the adjuster screw has more length than what I cut off. Put it back together and with the screw still backed out, it felt about right, so locked the screw in place at the point it is just touching.

I've got both brands and both of these rifles are extremely accurate with quality ammunition that they like. The difference between the triggers, the Howa wins hands down. The difference in the stocks goes to the Howa also.
The Ruger American has the advantages of being lighter, because of that lighter flimsy stock, and that's alot harder to master in hunting situations, and doesn't have a near the balance of feel in my hands.
I don't like my bolt rifles stocks minus a good cheek piece. Stability is critical to make precise shots at any distance. The Howas just plain my preference because of the wooden stocks with cheek pieces, with a low mounted scope, the vanguards and Howa 1500s are tack drivers, outdone Remington these days.
My favorite gun is a real old 30/06 BDL though, back when Remington was the cream of the crop. I've hunted with that old gun from hell to breakfast.
Last deer season, I killed 2 larg axis deer using only one 150 grain handloaded Sierra pro Hunter. I poked it smak dab through the Adam's apple and it also broke the spine of the other one. First time I ever got a two for one on deer.

Just bought a Howa 1500 in OD green, 30-06. The bolt is kinda zippery but that's probably because it's new still. But I couldn't pass up Japanese quality. I put a 6-18x30 Leupold VX freedom CDS on it and took it to the range. Only had the chance to sight in at 100 yards from after being bore sighted. But I was able to dial in within 20 rounds. The trigger is a little heavy but nothing I can't get used to. Overall I dig it. Due to inflation I got the rifle for about $571 out the door. And the Leupold for $499

Lots of indepth videos on my channel about . Barreled action and trigger is made in japan. Its the same as weatherby vanguard essentially. The stock is ok its a Hague overmold with piller bedding most likely but you can upgrade that to a hs precision or b&c stock . They have a 3 position safety and are one of the most solid Barreled actions on the market. Great accuracy usually and Reciever is built like a tank... trigger is easy to modify but i don't recommend it unless you are trained
